Who says American Idol is too mean?

Producers of the show recently came up with a way to help an Oklahoma Navy officer who faced a missed tryout because his wife gave birth to their second child.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Phil Stacey of Shawnee persuaded producers in Memphis to let him audition early so he could return to Jacksonville and be with his wife, Kendra, and their new daughter.

In return, American Idol did ask for Stacey had to arrange to videotape their reunion.

Stacey's father-in-law - Mark McIntosh of Shawnee - says the producers like the taped reunion enough that they plan to use it on the show. Look for it this evening.

IDOL cameras didn't follow him back to the hospital... it was taped with Phil's video camera by one of his friends. Remember, he auditioned in Memphis yet he's from Jacksonville.

One thing is wrong with the article. Phil didn't audition early. The baby wasn't due for two weeks so Phil went to the reguarly scheduled Memphis auditions. The baby came early. Phil missed the birth of the baby and was so sad about it. He saw the baby and wife after the audition took place and the IDOL cameras followed him back to the hospital.

Please note: American Idol had already showed Phil holding his baby in the previous week's show by the time this article came out. It was obvious from their own preview that they were going to show some footage of Phil and his baby in the next show!
