Did people not learn anything from Joey?

Addison is a good candidate for such a series. She is still enough of a mystery and an evolving character that we want to learn more about her, but has already gotten big enough that people may be compelled to watch her in a new show.
Also, there are 11 remaining Grey's Anatomy stars (assuming Meredith is saved!), many of whom have great opportunities to shine. If Mer, Der, Cristina or Burke were leaving I think the cast would be more disrupted.
It's a big gamble, no question, to fix what ain't broke, as someone said above. And the new show could really suck for a variety of reasons, as spin-offs often do.
But I think Grey's will be okay, and if the writing is good on Addison's Anatomy (or whatever its title will be), Kate will shine. If there are some compelling new characters and cool stories, hey, you never know.
I'll definitely check out the pilot!

This is the worst idea I've ever heard. Spin-off's always suck, and this will tank and remove an awesome character for no good reason. If it ain't broke Shonda, don't try to fix it.

I'm excited about this. I love Kate Walsh and Addison and I wish that she had more scenes in episodes so I have a feeling I'll love the show. :)
Most of you aren't even giving this a chance before you throw so much negativity out there. And why claim that they're killing Meredith off? This week's show hasn't even aired yet!

THIS SHOW IS GREY'S ANATOMY. GOOD FOR KW IF SHONDA WILL WRITE FOR HER ADDISON'S ANATOMY. MEREDITH AND DEREK HAVE AN HUGE FANBASE MORE THAN ADDISON. GA WON'T DIE WITHOUT HER.

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like the idea of her leaving Grey's - I really like her interacting with the interns and other attendings. I don't see how it would work to be all about an OBGYN but I do admit - Addison is one of my favorite characters.
I guess we will have to see. But I am nervous!!!

I don't quite know how I feel about this.
Sure, Addison's role on GA is great, and if she goes it may not be the same.
And her alone might be weird.
But, truth be told, her character is getting less and less atention in the show, it's obvious she has no future with either Derek or Mark. If I were she I would have moved on ages before.
But it could ruin the shows, the spin-off and Grey's Anatomy.

PS: They can't cast Jeffrey Dean Morgan in a spin off of Grey's 'cause he played Denny, who is dead. Therefore, his appearance on the new show w/ Addison would be... I don't know... weird? Paranormal??

This is dumb. Ths show will fail. And it will mark Grey's as "Jumping the Shark."

ok , now all this is becoming ridiculous ! killing meredith, moving addison .... addison just can't leave ! she had managed to be a real part of the show, and not only as derek's wife ... besides she was almost gonna be with alex !!!

wow. this is too much to handle minutes after waking up. right after addison becomes my favorite character they take her away? seriously?
well im going to have faith in shonda and hope it turns out good. and if not and they don't send her back to sgh? dont even get me started. i guess this means she's not getting cheif... hopefully they'll send her back to manhattan. but even if her new show is a hit im really going to miss her on grey's. i love that there is a female attending, and her chemistry with alex, and her budding friendship with callie.
and hello, does anyone else remember the sag awards? best ENSEMBLE cast? why mess that up now?

If its anything like the original Grey's then thats awesome... it will be twice as much. But its a little scarry because spin offs don't always do so good. Shonda, don't disapoint us.

I think Addison's character has LOTS of room for development at GA....It's great to see a woman at the top of the food chain, one of the attendings, one of the contenders for chief. Even in "Walking on Water", we still see the complexity of the relationship between Addison and Derek...they may not be lovers anymore, or spouses, but there's definitely history & a relationship to be explored....
I realize it's a big cast - but what an incredible ensemble....I'd hate to see it broken up.

I'm happy for Kate, but I think this is a real shame -- I think Addison's character adds a lot to the show -- her recent loneliness adds a more human side to the constant ups and downs of Meredith and Cristina. I like her being there to offset the 3 often little-boyish attendings, and her friendship with Callie; and I like what she's brought out in Alex. I'm sure this can all be developed on her own show, but I think she's an integral (and my favorite part of!) Grey's!
Greys Anatomy rules!

WHAT!? How in the world! NOOOOO. I want it to stay the way it is! No changes! This can't be! What will they call it? Mer, Izzie, Christinia, George, Derek, burke, and bailey better be in it or im not watchin it. I love this show and i want it to stay GREY"S ANATOMY! :(

I wholeheartedly admit that the reason I don't want to see this spinoff happen is because I LOVE Addison. I think her scenes with the other characters on Grey's are some of the most entertaining. The writing for her has been great... but I just don't see that same chemistry carrying over to a spinoff. 'Cause it's chemistry. The other cast members have to be around, too.

okay so I've read this article about 5 times now and I think I udnerstand what's going on. They're going to take Addison's character and make it into a new show just for her.
Personally I think that there are MANY risks to that. First of all Grey;s would loose a major character who has become wildly popular lately, and what about Addy and Alex. They were just starting up and they need to develop some kind of plotline to their relaitonship. I doubt that Addy would be appearing on Gryes anymore then, which I also think would be a BIG mistake. I've never been a fan of these kinds of things. I think that Greys is well off as it is, right now, with the big success, extraodrinary cast and everything.

I like what Addison adds to Grey's, and I hope the spinoff does go well. However, they usually don't, so if things don't go as planned, I hope they leave Kate Walsh the opportunity to come back.

Let's see what happens...I don't think this new show will catch on...what types of 'exciting' storylines can Shonda come up with for Addison? I'm thinking this will be a show for Eric Dane (Sloan) to go to as well...he followed Addison to Seattle, after all. He's not really Derek's friend anymore.
I think both Walsh and Dane will unfortunately be out of a job. That leaves 10 people on GA for the writers to write for. Also wonder how the egos of the other actors and actresses will handle this.
Boy, I'd like to be a fly on the wall on the set of GA! Interesting times!

I think we are all against the spinoff because we actually like Addison. I know I sure the hell didn't in the beginning. But Kate is a wonderful actress that actually has really great comdical timing. I think since Mer and Der are together we can finally don't see her as a threat and we generally like her. Im on the fence on this one.

MEREDITH is from Boston.
Addison came from NYC.
I just can't picture a successful show centering around an OBGYN. I mean, come on. What was that show about infertility/pregnancy? It lasted all of three episodes or something.

When people mess with a good thing, it usually means the demise of that good thing. There's a reason the cliche "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" exists. But apparently Shonda didn't get that memo.
At this point, I just hope they don't try to take anyone else with her. This is an "ensemble" cast for a reason. No one character could stand on his/her own. It's the chemistry and balance between them all that makes this is a good show. So why mess with that?
I don't see the spinoff being successful. In fact, I hope it's not. That way, they'll bring Kate/Addison back to Grey's Anatomy where she belongs.
Let's hope ABC smartens up before it decides to actually PICK UP the series for the fall. Right now, all we're talking about is a pilot.
