A Low-Key Birthday For Katherine Heigl

at . Comments

To celebrate her 29th birthday last Saturday, Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl opted for a low-key dinner with eight of her closest friends.

The group included Katherine's fiance, singer-songwriter Josh Kelley, and her Grey's Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight, and met up at Nobu in Malibu, Calif.

Dressed down in a tweed blazer, with her hair pulled in a bun, Heigl sat between Josh Kelley â€" whom she will wed in a small ceremony December 23 â€" and T.R. Knight.

When the cake came, the entire restaurant joined in and sang "Happy Birthday, Dear Katie," a witness reports, adding that the cake even had sparklers on it.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

I want to marry you. I want to have kids with you. I want to build us a house. I want to settle down and grow old with you. I want to die when I'm 110 years old, in your arms. I don't want 48 uninterrupted hours. I want a lifetime. Mmm. Do you see what happens? I say things like that and you fight the urge to run in the opposite direction. It's okay, I understand. I didn't, but now I do, I do. You're just getting started and I've been doing this for a long time now. Deep down, you're still an intern, and you're not ready.

When we say things like "people don't change" it drives scientist crazy because change is literally the only constant in all of science. Energy. Matter. It's always changing, morphing, merging, growing, dying. It's the way people try not to change that's unnatural. The way we cling to what things were instead of letting things be what they are. The way we cling to old memories instead of forming new ones. The way we insist on believing despite every scientific indication that anything in this lifetime is permanent. Change is constant. How we experience change that's up to us. It can feel like death or it can feel like a second chance at life. If we open our fingers, loosen our grips, go with it, it can feel like pure adrenaline. Like at any moment we can have another chance at life. Like at any moment, we can be born all over again.
