Patrick Dempsey Excited to Settle Down

Dempsey, Patrick
Patrick Dempsey, 41, may be Dr. McDreamy on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, but in the future, he fashions himself more like an Old MacDonald.

"I can be perfectly happy living in the country, having a little farm and working occasionally," the actor tells the December issue of Best Life.

"If someone calls, I'll go to work. But I am a little tired of putting myself through hell just to get into the room to be prepared, to be professional and to let go of any kind of anger or frustration, and then not getting the part."

Last May, Dempsey bought a farm in Maine where he grew up. The purchase was a turning point, he says: "It was like, you know what? I'm done. I now know what I want."

Patrick Dempsey, who portrays Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, says coming to terms with fame â€" and 14-hour days â€" has been challenging.

"The show is like running a marathon. It feels like it never stops. The obligations you have for the show â€" it's relentless," he says. "The amount of exposure and the visibility ... it was certainly a big change for me."

Dempsey co-stars with Amy Adams in Disney's Enchanted, which opens this week. He'll next be seen in the romantic comedy Made of Honor in May.

"There's an audience who's watching Grey's Anatomy who expects something from you when they go to the box office, so you want to deliver that," he says. "I'm going to wait to see what happens with these movies, and then we'll make choices after that. You can't get too far ahead of yourself."

Dempsey, who has three small children with his wife, Jillian Dempsey, says his "family â€" and all of its joys and heartaches â€" is the grounding force."

"It's why you do everything," he says. "It's why you go to work, and why you put up with what you have to put up with, why you do what you have to do. Because you want to make a better life for them."

He is such a sweet man, his family sounds wonderful. Hollywood will always go calling on him now that they have rediscovered the hotter, sexier Patrick Dempsey. I think he'll be like Robert Redford, living away from Hollywood but can work when he wants. I think Patrick is going to have a second grown up movie career now, he's so talented, so gorgeous and such a nice man.

Anther Mainah lucky are we?!?!? hahahhahahahaha Come on home sweet home!!

I wonder what Patrick meant when he said he was going to see how these two movies went and then he would have some choices to make because you can't get to ahead of yourself? Is he talking about backing off of the movies maybe while still doing GA or wonder if he is thinking about backing off GA? I read this very same article under PD News and it was titled "Is PD tiring of Grey's" and it said he had been hinting around about quitting GA because of the long hours.
I can't imagine him even considering that! I'm sure that people take comments that are said and turn them around and make things out of it. But if that is the case here...this wasn't something that should have even been printed, you know?!
Something else to worry us Mer/Der fans, I guess.

Hey everyone. The preview for made of honor came out today and it's amazing! check out the official website.. I heart Patrick Dempsey.

He's got it all :p
but what does he mean with " "I'm going to wait to see what happens with these movies, and then we'll make choices after that. You can't get too far ahead of yourself." "
He's not saying he might quit grey's when his movies are doing great, right?? No grey's without McDreamy!
Btw: Lucky Nicole, if he's going to retire, you can visit him every day :p

When the time comes to retire Patrick (no rush, by any means) your more than welcome back here with the rest of us mainah's :-D

I'm sure all the success that Patrick has gotten since he started GA is definately over whelming and still is. He is bigger NOW than ever. He has had so many doors to open with movies, magazine covers, interviews, tv specials on his life and so much more. Not including being on a hit tv show! I'm sure its alot of work and long hours doing all these things and lets not forget the racing too! But, Patrick is having the time of his life. He knows that all of this will not last forever and I think its great that things are going so well for him and he is enjoying it as long as it last. I for one hope it continues to last for a very long time! And I think that it is great that he has made plans for his future with a much quieter life style, hopefully many years down the road!!

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone, because what if you learn that you need love and you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."
