Though the portrayer of Davis / Doomsday, Sam Witwer, was invited back for season nine of Smallville (his name was even featured on the Smallville season nine poster!), there's no guarantee the actor is coming back.

In fact, according to Matt of TV Guide, Witwer was invited back for several episodes but the actor has no plans to return. It must be that big role of "social worker" he landed in the movie Gamer.  Okay, sorry Sam, that was mean.
