Smallville Sneak Peek: Photos from "Absolute Justice"

After more than two months off the air, Smallville returns with a new episode tonight.

But the installment "Disciple" only serves as an appetizer for the main course: next week's special, two-hour, Justice Society of America-themed "Absolute Justice."

Fans have been buzzing about this movie-like episode for months. You can check out a trailer for it NOW.

In a recent interview, show star Justin Hartley says this week's episode leads nicely into next week's blockbuster:

"One thing that is touched on in the episode is really how everybody in the burgeoning “league” under Watchtower is really working on their own and very separately. They aren’t coalescing the way they really need to be, as a team. That leads in nicely to “Absolute Justice.”

The CW, meanwhile, has released a set set of photos from the installment. Click on each below for a closer look at scenes from "Absolute Justice."

Justin Hartley Speaks on Smallville Return, Character

Finally.

After weeks off the air, Smallville airs a new episode this Friday. It's titled "Disciple" and it focuses on Oliver's reunion with a face from his dark past.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Justin Hartley talks about what's ahead on The CW drama, starting with The Green Arrow's interactions with a former mentor this week...

On The Dark Archer: He’s this guy from his past, and he’s sort of looking for Ollie to do something for him that he’s not cool with anymore and Oliver is like ‘Yeah, no.’ Then, at one point, arrows are flying everywhere. Lois gets hit. Chloe gets hit.

On Oliver's charming side: I have always said let this guy be f---ed up, let him have flaws. At least he knows that about himself. I think part of that downward spiral [he was earlier this season] was him second-guessing himself.

Instead of asking questions, he just said ‘Well, this must be who I am then. I must be a loser.’ But by facing his demons, literally someone face-to-face from his past—and coming out on top—that kind of reinforces the fact that he’s not a loser. He doesn’t have to be that guy.

From Disciple

On Amanda Waller/Checkmate: Right now, he’s privy to all of it and he’s on the quest to figure out what they’re up to and put an end to all of it. I think he and Clark are going to start working together on that, which is cool.

Odessa Rae Cast as Smallville Villain

Another DC comic character is coming to Smallville.

TV Guide reports that Odessa Rae has been cast as the Silver Banshee on The CW hit. She'll debut on the episode "Escape.

The character, whose real name is Siobhan McDougal, is a vengeful spirit of a fallen Gaelic heroine. On the show, she's released from the underworld, and seeks vengeance on Lois and Clark at a country bed and breakfast.

Rae joins the line of DC heroes and villains on Smallville this season, many of whom will be seen on the two-hour February 5 episode "Absolute Justice." They include: Icicle (Wesley MacInnes), Dr. Fate (Brent Stait), Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Star Girl (Britt Irvin) and Amanda Waller (Pam Grier).

On TV, Rae has guest-starred on episodes of Leverage and Chuck.

Michael McKean: Returning as Perry White to Smallville

Yesterday, we reported that Annette O’Toole is returning to Smallville as Martha Kent.

Now, series producer Brian Peterson has news about the actress' real-life husband, also a familiar face to fans of the show: Michael McKean will reprise the role Perry White on the season's penultimate episode.

“We’re thrilled to have Michael back on the show, and to be able to link it with the anticipated return of Martha Kent is just a phenomenal way to gear up to the end of the season," Peterson told Entertainment Weekly.

It's unclear just when Martha Kent will re-appear, but a Smallville source told Michael Ausiello that the episode will likely air during May sweeps. Moreover, this mother/son reunion will feature an “unexpected surprise” or two.

O’Toole last appeared in season six. She left the series when Martha moved to Washington to become a U.S. senator.

Smallville Likely To Be Renewed for Season 10

With a sixth season all but locked down for Supernatural, CW president Dawn Ostroff is focusing on another network mainstay.

What are the chances that Smallville returns for a 10th season?

“I’m really pleased with the show,” she said at the TV Critics Winter Press Tour. “Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job. And the ratings are [strong] on Friday night... It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh. And you know what I think? The fans have really liked the show this season."

So, can fans look forward to at least one more year?

“I don’t know which way we’ll go,” she said, but added a hint of optimism: "If you would’ve asked me [earlier whether it would end this season] I would’ve said, ‘Oh, probably.’ But I can’t say that now.”

Smallville returns on January 22 with a new installment.
