Ok so seriously?! Did she make a remark about a show without Patrick Dempsey?? Oh me him and Ellen are the reason I started watching the show. I LOVE the other actors as well, they make the show funny but like others PD and EP is the reason I started watching it!! I know EP has to be absent from some shows bc of her pregnancy, understandable, but brains must be operated on every day :) I know all good things come to an end and PD is a good thing so we must all brace ourselves for this! Meredith is the voiceover....how can Greys be Greys without her voice??

ok you i love greys but i watch it for merder greys is the one show i cant miss but if they go so do i. i will watch it if mer leave but i won't make sure i see every episode if PD leaves so do i it's about merder and their chemistry is what draw me the ups and downs

i dont think i can watch it without Ellen pompeo as meredith grey..coz she's the grey on grey's anatomy...i think if she will be gone that series i think they better end it...

There would be no show without Mer. The entire show was based around her narratives and her life experience. It certainly has branched out - but hello...IT'S CALLED - GREY'S ANATOMY!!! NOT LEXIE GREY EITHER.
Lexie is not a horrible character..but she is not Mer. I really feel like Shonda had a great concept and she had great writers for the first two and a half - three seasons. Even moments of 4 and 5 are good. But there is no direction. There is no overall arch to where she sees the story ending. That is a problem because it just ends up becoming Soap-opera-ish.
They need to take a step back and come up and end date - and an ending to the story. Once they have that, they can write episodes that go somewhere. Even if they change the planned ending, they at least have a place to start. Right now - it's a little here- a little there - we will throw in a reference to past experiences every now and then to make the audience think we have thought this through.

If all of the original characters leave there better be some darn good new characters coming in... I just don't know if I can watch it if they all leave.
I have always been one to stick by my shows no matter what happens but I just can't see myself enjoying it if this takes place.
IF it does happen I sure do hope they pull it off because Grey's is an amazing show and I want it to be around for as long as possible!

Ellen is the center of the show - I hope they find good ways to work around her absence because I know Mer will be missed! Hoping for a great 6th season!

You know, the more I think about it, it was just the way the whole article was worded that has upset everybody. Starting out by saying everybody will be walking out the door with TR Knight. Eventually. Why even make a comment like that? I truly think the whole issue here is that everybody will be there the remaining (2) years on their contract and from now until then SHonda is trying to think about each character and decide where they are going and alot of that will probably depend on the actor and if they will stay longer than the 7 seasons. Lets hope that is all this was, just Shonda thinking out loud and if we are lucky, everybody will stay for the duration of the show, which I hope will be several more years to come!.....Kathy

I don't get why Shonda said: "Meredith wouldn't be pregnant" I hope she means only for now... and also, personally I'd rather Grey's ends with most of its original actors than carry on for 15 years with only 1 or 2 of them (unless they're Mer and Der (lol)). And I don't think Ellen will leave Grey's. I mean, she just needs her maternity leave, it's ONLY fair. Just because she's on a hit show, doesn't mean she shouldn't get one. xoxo

Why is Shonda thinking Ellen won't bounce back from her pregnancy. Even though it was later in the season they worked around Chandra's and you barely noticed she was gone. At the rate Shonda is going she doesn't need to look past season 6. This show has suffered at times because of bad writing not bad acting. If they lose anymore original cast especially people like Ellen and Patrick the show will be over. I like all the characters but it was Patrick and Ellen's great chemistry that drew me to watch every week.

I seriously doubt Owen's PTSD is going to flare up again.... More likely the shrink is there to help some of the other characters deal with someone's death :(

LEXIE GREY'S ANATOMY???? You've GOT to be kidding me. There is no show without Mer AND Der for that matter so Shonda is just going to have to keep them VERY HAPPY for the next two seasons at least.
And what does she mean by "stand alone episodes"? As usual, she is just trying to get us all riled up, and it's working!

All i can say is the only way i want Meredith to leave is it to be the end of the series. If she leaves before then and PD along with her, i'm not watching the show. I tune in mainly because of Meredith and Derek (And do enjoy some other things, but they aren't as interesting enough) And i like Lexie, but she can't hold the title of main character. That's not possible. So if they ever take her off before the series is over, i'll just enjoy watching the seasons of DVD's i have with Mer and Der on them and never watch the show without Mer again.

If Mer or Der leave the show, then it would be sooo empty. But I think that whatever I say (I mean they are the biggest reason why I watch, them and Cristina), I will still stick to Grey's because I'm so into the show, so much that I feel I can't leave it no matter what happens.

I think people are reading into this way to much. SR is talking past S8, when negotiations would start up again on their contracts.
SR meant that maybe EP isn't going to be all tough and all (like she says she is right now) once she delivers her baby, as natural as it is. EP is going to have to find a balance between baby and show and that may take time. However, if PD and JC have managed to do so, I have no doubt that she'll be able to find a balance.
So this actually mean that there are going to be some MerDer-less episodes. Well, I just hope that they are able to make it up later.
Just one request: Instead of Izzie's Anatomy...put Owen and Cris front and center during this period. I knew Hunt couldn't be cured that fast.
I don't think that GA is going to go as long as ER. Doesn't really seem like a possibility to me. I think that they'll make 10 seasons top and leave it. The show should go out on a high note, not after its forgotten.

First of all, I hope that Grey's is on the air for MANY years to come! I hope that all of the actors will stay as long as the show lasts! I guess now that T.R. decided to leave, it has made Shonda realize that any of the actors at this point could decide to leave especially after their contract expires at the end of season 7. Then there will probably be alot of questions on who is staying and who is leaving at that point. As Shonda also stated, I'm sure she hopes that Ellen would stay for the duration of the show too, but I guess now that she is having a baby that she may decide to leave before then. I'm also wondering if Patrick is the actor that asked for alittle more free time and more of a creative role in the show. We all know that Patrick will be in a couple of movies coming up and possibly working on his on movie next summer, so you could see that he may want alittle more time to do these things especially since Ellen will be out for a short period maternity leave.
