Just when we thought Modern Family couldn't get any more hilarious...

The best new sitcom in years has announced that Fred Willard will guest star on a future episode. The actor - a veteran of movies such as Best in Show and For Your Consideration - will play Phil's father.

Fred Willard

Said Ty Burrell (Phil), who campaigned for this casting addition earlier in the year:

“Fred is not just a pioneer for this type of comedy, but somebody who has really set the tone for how it can be done, so it was just a total honor [to work with him]. He really established, even going back to Spinal Tap, some of the funniest stuff out of the medium.”

Willard joins a long list of impressive Modern Family guest stars, including: Shelley Long, Edward Norton, Benjamin Bratt, Chazz Palmenteri and Minnie Driver.
