It wouldnt be a cliché if Peter was the badguy. It would be amazing. We have seen the "one of the goodguys is really the badguy" twist several times in movies, but I cannot remember ever seeing it in such a series. But it doesnt make sense if you think about it, why would Peter even need to put on a ring when leading his criminal side of life. And even if I love the idea of Peter being Caffreys nemesis, I cant see the writers pulling it off, I just dont think they would be able to keep it interesting. And alot of the viewers who want mainstream entertainment would be really frustrated, they dont want the goofy, lovable FBI agent to be an evil man.

Anyways (sorry for all the rambling above), Im very sure that we will get a cheap solution in the next episode. Not a dream, but something in the line of it.

I think that there are a few things it could be:

    1) Peter found out where Kate was so he confrunted her to say to back off Neil, (and on my theory that Kate is the bad guy) and that she would get what she wanted. (Note: On 2 ocasstions now Kate could have told Neil everything, why did she run at Grand Central Station? Why would she say who was the bad guy? Why won't she say what "the bad guy" wants she just told Neil to give her ALL of his lifes work.)

    2) Maybe Peter isn't the bad guy? He could just be having an affair with Kate and jelous of her contact with Neil? maybe she isn't be held agisnt her own will? what if she is going behind Peter's back? I mean 1) if I were being held captive and was let out (by myself) I would have ran (umm, duh) but she came back to an appartment (alone, might I add) she seemed surprised that Peter was there but not scared. I would have been scared and not have been like "Peter" I would have been like running away. Common Sense.

    those are ju

what is he really is the bad guy i mean peter??
    think of this..
he kidnapps kate, knowing Neal will do anything to look for her,
Neal helps him get rid of major criminals, while holding the only reason for Neal to be with the FBI witch is finding Kate..
maybe after catching everyone he wants he locks Neal up too

its just a crazt theory but a diffrent opinion to spice up the conversation!! anyway its been a great show so far

got to agree with jonas...I think it's Kate who's behind all this. I mean, Peter can't be that bad, he's one of the two main characters! he's not going anywhere, if he's not around, neil goes back to jail...not gonna happen!! Kate is the one person who we know the least about. She's the one who we're going to learn lives some crazy secret life or something, not peter.

That's my thought anywho. Can't wait to see what the writers have up their sleeves :)

Need to clarify something. The actor playing Fowler is Noah Emmerich.
Not Thomas F. Wilson. Wilson played Biff in BTTF.

Just wanted to give credit where actor's credit is due.

He does play creepy very well, but a good actor. And...

    I love White Collar.

I am amazed how much analysis of words and acts went into this, when the simple answer is so close. The "bag guy" here is Kate, who staged her "abduction" to make Neal give up his stash-places. She's vague, she's non-committal, and she doesn't really want to be helped (as witnessed in two occasions, now). When Neal mentions, that the man with the ring is FBI, she only says "yes", nothing more.

Meanwhile, after seeing the second half of the picture, Peter has a suspicion. He finds Kate easily (remember, he's smart, he caught Neal twice, and he doesn't have an ankle bracelet), breaks into her apartment, slips on the ring which he finds there, and waits for her.

Of course she'd call him "Peter" - first because she's been shadowing Neal and Peter ever since Neal sprung him, and second because I believe there's another deeper connection (the similarities between Kate and Elizabeth might just be coincidence, but who knows...).

So we have a cliffhanger with Peter finding Kate, callin

    Wait...........

Maybe the bad guy is Elizabeth?

    1) Too nice as a ruse and she has helped out Peter with cases before so she is a "very perceptive women", I feel she has peter roped into this.

    2) She mentioned to Peter once to help Neal settle down with a girl in one of those episodes so that if he'd fall for her she would stop chasing Kate.

    3) She mentioned at the very first episode of series that its "Nice to finally to meet the man I've been COMPETITING with for three years" (I know in the episode that relates to her and peters relationship but it could have been one of those first-ep pre-cursor sentences setting the series up).

    4) She is so much more suited to the part rather then Peter.

Peter isn't the bad guy. Its really too obvious of a choice and the writers seem very aware of the amount of cliché that is hinted at in the show already. However, what is interesting is for the moment Caffery, the master-mind Criminal is pretty much a good guy now isn't he? I'm sure Peter is trying to get some revenge though. He obviously must of had some trouble with Neal the first time he tried catching him. So It might be revenge. Also, I do see Elizbeth helping Neal and Kate helping Peter. Seems possible.

Id stop watching this show if peter was the real bad guy... It would ruin it for me

ook hold up, i really love nancy's analysis, and i think she's completely correct in saying that we dont know what's really going on here... but ive got another totally whacko theory to throw out there!!

    but first i wanna say,
    1) i never felt like Peter was right for the "bad guy" meaning the guy thats behind it all, the guy that kidnapped kate etc
    2) but come on Elizabeth is just way too nice to be in on all this :P

ok so because of Elizabeth alone heres my whacky, unfounded theory, thats vague and unfinished...

OBVIOUSLY Peter didnt want Neal looking for Kate from the start right? and im totally okay with the reason being because Peter knows that Kate's okay (well kinda, and maybe only for the time being)
SOO OPR/Mentor Investigation may actually be concerned with surveying Peter because they've noticed he's been doing some "dirty"/"under the table" work that the bureau's doesnt understand
BUT!! maybe theres a "real" bad guy that hasn't come out of the woodwork yet..

  12. Nancy

Hang on. You have a brain, use it. Peter may be who viewers SEE sitting in the chair, doesn't mean it is him. The kidnapping of Kate makes just about as much sense as Neal would in the same situation. It DOESN'T. Something else is going on here. kate does look like Elizabeth, which could be how these two baddies plan to pull the wool over Neal long enough to get what they want out of his stash.

Does anyone other than the people in my house think Elizabeth and Kate are one person or twins? It doesn't even make sense that Peter is the kidnapper of Kate. But the show is fun!
