AMERICAN IDOL 2010: THE BEST OF THE TOP TEN GUYS

As soon as Ryan Seacrest announced that Crystal Bowersox was ill and that the guys were performing first, I got this sinking feeling that it wasn’t going to turn out real good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like this season’s males, it’s just that there doesn’t seem to be a strong contingent of young men who have got their act together.

I think Simon said it all when he did a little pep talk about getting the “killer instinct” going if they really mean to win American Idol. I agree with Simon. All but a few of the guys believe enough in their own individuality and creativity to go all the way for the gold. Simon’s sprinting analogy was very apropos.

Tonight, I would definitely put big Michael Lynch up front. He was strong, he was believable and really put the boot to James Brown’s It’s a Man’s World. I thought he was really cool and firmly launched himself toward winning. That’s the kind of genre he should grab onto. He’s a big dude and when he gets into something kind of bluesy/soul he’s believable. This is the kind of pizzazz that gets the audience behind a person because, in reality, it makes the artist captivating and puts them in the driver’s seat as an entertainer.

Frankly, I was somewhat disappointed with Casey, although I was impressed with his guitar playing. Problem is, this isn’t about playing an instrument but about singing and his song failed to do anything for him or the audience and judges...
