NCIS: Los Angeles Producer: Dom is Gone; No One is Safe!

at . Comments

NCIS: Los Angeles began and ended last night's episode, "Missing," with the disappearance of rookie agent Dom Vaile. The story was left wide open to interpretation.

Until now. Cast member Adam Jamal Craig (Dom) is leaving the hit procedural, according to Entertainment Weekly, which spoke with snow creator Shane Brennan.

The only question is when. Pretty much the only thing clear after last night was that this is the shocking, emotional story teased by producers earlier this month.

Dom Vaile

Adam Jamal Craig (Dom Vaile) is leaving NCIS: Los Angeles.

The pilot episode of Lost originally called for Jack to be killed off immediately after establishing him as the main character. Dom is no Jack, but his departure did come out of nowhere, and seemed to be engineered to generate the same kind of shock value.

Tuesday's episode left the character’s fate very much up in the air. Is Dom dead? Will his kidnapping remain an unsolved mystery? Why was Craig written out?

Follow the jump for excerpts from EW's interview with Brennan in which he addresses the fate of Dom and more regarding this unfinished NCIS: Los Angeles business ...

Q: Where’s Dom?

Shane Brennan: He’s gone. He’s out there somewhere.

Q: Will the team continue to search for him?

Shane Brennan: They’re not about to leave one of their own unaccounted for, but life goes on. They’ve got cases to solve. So they continue to do that and wonder.

Q: How long will this story play out for?

Shane Brennan: It will arc the rest of the season ... in the great tradition of NCIS, it doesn’t mean that having answered the questions we won’t pose more.

Q: Why did you decide to write out a main cast member this early?

Shane Brennan: To my mind, particularly in the first season of a show, there is no main cast. The audience is meeting a whole bunch of characters and you get the opportunity to play around with them. I’m a great believer in playing with the audience’s expectations. No one’s safe.

Q: What was Adam’s reaction?

Shane Brennan: He was incredibly professional. Everyone’s aware that these sorts of things can happen. I warned everyone that I shake things up all the time.

And by the way, just because Dom’s missing doesn’t mean you won’t see him again. There’s blood in the car, but is he dead? Alive? What’s going to happen?

There is a powerful episode to come that will provide some resolution.

I enjoy both shows and watch them both but you don't just go around killing people, you can be a bit more creative. I agree with bring the DC team in.... GO DiNizzo, Ziva, and Gibbs!!! Best characters everrr!!!!! LA with never even compare to DC

Yall just need 2 shut up on all the hatin!!! If u don't like it then don't watch it, but some of us do and all of yalls hatin is pissin me off... Cool it

A Great team of Actors and Actresses though!

My only hangup is the fact that NCIS: LA Should NOT have technology that is years if not decades newer than the main branch of NCIS which is located in Washington DC. It's like there exact opposites. The main branch (DC) Has the Super Guru's using old tech to solve cases and the LA branch has the technology but the Guru's that can use it aren't there. They should of at least upgraded DC a bit before launching the LA unit. I think it takes away from the legitimacy of the LA SHOW

unpredictable episodes!i cant believe it...grrrr!they should make dom veil as a main stay.... ihate this part

Elaine Jan.20 2011 8:34 PM. My husband and I ae great fans of both Ncis and the Los Angeles one.I tend to be a bit of a critic, but I love the mixture of drama and comedy. I think all the characters on both show fit very well together. I happen to watch shows for the entertainment, not for reality. I have enough raelity in my life.I used to be a fan of Criminal minds, but their perfect guessing about the-UNSUB is very corny and the rest is just plain gory, I mean, are we trying to entertain Psychos or teach cruel people how to torture or dismember us,Heaven forbid.

Yes, I am disappointed at what happened to Dom.. he had potential as a main character and was killed off the show way too early. But I am not going to stop watching the show just because of that. NCIS LA has an interesting cast of characters and I'm sure they it will recover, the same way NCIS did with Kate. Also, I'm tired of people complaining that this show isn't EXACTLY like NCIS. I mean would you really want a duplicate show on back to back. Get real.

There are some concerns with the direction the NCIS franchise is going. Nobody needs "changing things up" like that. Killing off lead characters just causes us to wonder whose next, which in turn just causes us not to want to be involved with the characters, which leads to dumping the show from the DVR list. Why bother getting involved when the "Producer" suddenly lacks creativity and decides "lets kill someone, I'm out of show ideas. besides that's how all the 'B' shows do it." And that's what Brennan is becoming if he continues down this path. He is no Bellisario. That guy has had a string of successes. I have watched his shows since college. Shane could learn a few things. I could teach him a few things. Heck half the fans could teach him a thing or two. It takes a lot to be creative above the average. That's the bar Bellisario has set.

I have to agree with Joe Bob hands down. NCIS is awesome. Los Angeles, is not. I mean I understand that technology has come a long way but so as to do any single thing in a minute? And never encounter any type of problem? That just makes things too simple. Joe Bob isn't making himself look dumb, and while his opinion may not matter, neither does trying to appear condescending towards him and pretend that you are superior, because in the end, you wasted your time sharing your opinion that we, and probably Joe Bob himself, don't give a damn about. And LL Cool J cannot act all, have you seen how he runs? Hard to believe he played football.

This is just sad. No main characters yet??? The characters are what make the show. I tell you what, if Hettie or LL are in the number to go, then I'm going with them, never to watch NCIS Los Angeles again.
