Michael Trucco Speaks on Castle Character, Future

by at . Comments

As Detective Tom Demming on Castle, Michael Trucco knew his character might not be especially popular.  After all, Demming is standing in between any romance between Beckett and Castle.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor - who has landed a starring role on USA’s new dramedy Facing Kate - touched on this topic and more...

On shaping his character: I wasn’t totally familiar with the show, but I know in a situation like this, the dynamic between the two leads is very important... I tried to make this character really likable, really believable, so that the audience can relate to Beckett and her potential attraction. If you come off as smarmy or sleazy, you end up being the bad guy in the end, then it just feels like the audience gets cheated.

Detective Demming

On fan reaction: The most important thing is to illicit some reaction, good or bad. If some people are repellent to me, so be it. If some people are attracted to me, great. At the end, that’s the object of entertainment — you want to provoke a reaction. Hopefully, we’ve achieved that.

On returning next season: I would say it’s left open. There’s no indication either way. I was contracted for the four episodes, but you never know. I’m certainly amenable to the idea. This is one of the most comfortable sets I’ve ever been on.

Got any Castle spoilers: What I can tell you is that obviously, there’s some decisions to be made in terms of these relationships. Things start to ramp up, get heightened, and a major wrench gets thrown into the works… Hearts will be aching, that’s all I can say.

Trucco is featrued below, among a trio of photos from the May 3 episode, "Food to Die For."

Thank you for this information, I have 10 acres, of which I need to cut and keep cut about 5 acres. I was going to go get a used mower, a used risadenteil mower, but now I am going to put back some money and get a quality commercial grade mower, thank you again,Bob Long

Lol -- Defective Detective Di1do. No way. He looks like someone Kate should babysitting. Wonder when his voice will change... Milf much Mr. Di1do? LOL -- Loooooooooo-zzz-errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Nah, he'll need another ten years on ice just to learn how to smirk like Castle. As far as the other tricks a man Castle's age can do with his lips and tongue, Mr. Di1do probably has only seen those in the kind of movies he doesn't even look old enough to rent yet. Sides, the whole characterization thing would be blown. If Kate shacks up with the little boy in blue, she'd be guilty of every shallow insipid thing she accuses Castle of--which would make her a complete hypocrite, which I'm pretty sure isn't the characterization the writers are going for. Who knows how it will all turn out though--TV writers being famous for flawed logic. If they foul it up too badly however, I'll give up on the show, unless of course they replace Kate entirely. I doubt the ratings would survive that, so it'll be the end of the show for me either way. Here's hoping for some sense, good writing, and logical characterization. Go team Castle!!! Go take a logic in visual media seminar, team Di1do!!! LOL

I think Demming's great. The chemistry between he and Beckett is, in my opinion, far better than that of Castle and Beckett. I love Castle- he's a brilliant character. The pairing of Beckett and Castle romantically, however, just doesn't work. He seems too old for her and what they have simply isn't good enough. Them together- it isn't believeable. So. I hope they keep Demming on board. :)

Greetings: Does anyone else just fast forward their DVR through detective di1do (as in no substitute for the real thing) whenever he comes on? I do. He ruins the dynamic and sucks all of the fun out of the show when he's on set. With him there, the playful banter isn't stimulating, the case becomes boring, and you just end up waiting for him to leave. Commercials are bad enough, but now I have one of my favorite shows shortened by this garbage too. With the addition of his character, instead of enjoying the last few episodes of this season, the writers have just prolonged the wait until whenever this foul anomaly gets written out again, and the proper storyline resumes, hopefully early in season 3. Right now, its just become a waiting game, and I'm anxiously awaiting the third season, hopefully early third season, but I won't hold my breath. Also, I will not be buying these particular episodes from amazon/itunes, and I encourage everyone else to boycott them as well. Perhaps that will give the writers and execs a much needed punch in the throat, and hurry things along. If you agree, be vocal, the more people complain, the less likely the powers-that-be will remain oblivious. Thanks, Castlefan

DON'T RUIN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CASTLE AND BECKETT FOR THE SAKE OF A FORCED ROMANCE WITH A GUEST STAR!!
THE CASTLE/BECKETT RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE TO WATCH SO WRITERS DON'T STUFF IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@#$*&^%%
IT'S WORTH WAITING FOR A WHILE OVER EPS TO SEE THESE TWO GROW TOGETHER INTO A FULL ON RELATIONSHIP AS LONG AS THERE'S NO "FORCED" RELATIONSHIPS.
BRINGING TRUCCO IN IS DEFINITELY A FORCED TYPE THING.
SPARE ME ANOTHER BONES SCENARIO PURTY PLEASE!! :)

Sometimes the hardest things in life are the things most worth doing.

Castle: How do you know when you're in love?
