Damon is just trying to keep up his bad boy image not showing his feelings too much but just enough. He knows they know he cares. I do think there was something there with Damon and Elena though when he found out Isobel is back. I guess in the end it should be Stefan and Elena but there should definitely be a Damon/Elena affair for a while.

Elena and damon are perfect together they have such great chemistry but at the same time stephan and elena are so cute together! Cant she just have both of them!

That point of the inconsistency is for a reason. Damon IS inconsistent. That's why with him, his actions mean more than his words do right now. So excited for the next two episodes!

like he was realizing how much damon really cares for elena...
sometimes this storyline is inconsistent..
"Going on a killing spree is bad." -Damon.. yes damon..that is the very reason you locked your brother up in last weeks episode... because you are trying to cover up vampires in mystic falls
also last episode..damon being all like..i dont care about stefan..i hate stefan...blah blah blah ..no admitting he cared to Elena... well didnt you admit that you cared like 3 or 4 episodes ago when stefan was getting kidnapped and tortured...it's kind of already out there...you risked your life to save his more then once...hellooo
