Definitely Mercedes father should remain a dentist! However, they do sorely need is a strong black male who can really rap, really sing and really dance. He could be a dentist, a teacher (let's mix it up on the faculty) or a student. Lliving in Lima, Ohio, I'm sure he would be an outcast He doesn't need to be homeless! It was very unfair to replace the only black kid in the club (who only had one spoken line in 22 episodes) with Surfer Boy Sam (who can't sing, act or dance. He belongs on the Disney Channel) I'm white, btw, and Jewish, so this is personal at all. Bit it's embarrassing every time Mr. Shu or the other guys try to do rap, or hip hop. I don't even like rap or hip hop, but as the mother of 5 teenagers and young adults, I know what kids are into these days. And it's not old white guys trying to rap. There is a lot of under-written talent in the club: Mercedes, Tina, Mike. They get short-shrifted when it comes to scripting their back-stories, their family issues, etc. Let's spread it out a little. Furt is old, Finchel is old. Even Artie and Brittany is getting old. Let's have some fresh ideas.

I agree, the dentist might be her stepfather? Also agree with everything sez wrote. Love David Alan Grier though!

Yeah, i remember her saying he was a dentist, when Sue said she was "poor". That could also be her step-dad though, you never know.

I was just about to write the exact same post as Sam, Mercades said he was last season?
Not sure I'm happy with this development, I liked her coming from a happy home (explained why she is the way she is, i.e. full of confidence, self esteem and most of the time pure joy). This sounds depressing, I don't like it.
Could they not have just made him and K/Carl feuding dentists?

So did I. Way to be consistent, show writers.

i thought her dad was a dentist

Glee Quotes

You know, a great big fat person once stood on this stage and told a group of a dozen or so nerds in hideous disco outfits that glee, by its very definition, is about opening yourself up to joy. Now it's no secret that for a long time I thought that was a load of hooey. As far as I could see the glee club was nothing but a place where a bunch of cowardly losers go to sing their troubles away and delude themselves into thinking that they live in a world that cares one iota about their hopes and dreams, totally divorced from the harsh reality that in the real world there's not much more to hope for than disappointment, heartbreak, and failure. And you know what. I was exactly right. Thats exactly what glee club is. But I was wrong about the cowardly part. What I finally realized, now that I'm well into my late thirties, it takes a lot of bravery to look around you and see the world not as it is but as it should be. A world where the quarterback becomes best friends with the gay kid, and the girl with the big nose ends up on Broadway. Finding the courage to open up your heart and sing about it. That's what glee club is. And for the longest time I thought that was silly, and now I think it's just about the bravest thing that anyone could do.

[to Finn] You know, I don't really know what's going to happen between us, but I know that you used to be the guy that would make me feel like the most special girl in the whole world, and it doesn't feel that way anymore. Now it just feels sad and confusing. And the worst part is that it doesn't even feel that bad anymore.
