Is Grey's Anatomy Better Than Ever?

at . Comments

We've been a bit critical of Grey's Anatomy at times this season, but deep down, we're still crazy about the medical drama that hooked us all the way back in 2005.

Entertainment Weekly recently listed 10 reasons the current season rocks, and we thought we'd pass that along here as we await another new episode tonight ...

Dr. Avery wasn't quite clicking as part of the ensemble when Jesse Williams first joined the cast. But now? Oh, mama. He's flirty - to a fault - but he's also a decent dude, and the show was in need of a seriously single dude. Game, set, match.

Jackson Shirtless

Cristina's been through hell on this show - actually, she's been through it about once a season. But now that she's settled down on the relationship front, her story arc of personal anguish in the wake of the shooting gets to take center stage. Sandra Oh's acting has always been one of the show's greatest assets, and she's getting some of the best material she's had in years.

Sure, Grey's is a melodrama, and you're guaranteed to cry roughly once an episode. But it's also peppered with silly, fun, honest dialogue between characters who genuinely seem to like one another. We could listen to Mark and Callie chitchat all day.

Izzie Stevens. Love her or loathe her, Izzie's story line cast an intense shadow on the show over the past few years, be it the ill-conceived Gizzie, Denny's ghost, or her battle with cancer. Enough was enough, and now Grey's is finally moving on - for real.

Romance, schmomance. The best relationship on this show is definitely Meredith and Cristina's, and this season it's been even more important. Both docs are dealing with some serious issues following the shooting - Meredith's miscarriage, Cristina performing emergency surgery — but they're helping each other cope. Who wouldn't feel better snuggling with Meredith and Derek?

Let's never speak of the deer CPR again. Grey's is finding its way back to the right balance of bizarre patients/cases as metaphors for the doctors' problems. To wit: Tree Guy. Indeed we are all freaks, as the episode told us. Also, HPV is a hell of a virus.

Sarah Drew slayed us as Hannah on Everwood and broke our hearts as Sal's wife, Kitty, on Mad Men. She finally landed on a hit show and... uh, yikes. April was chirpy, irritating, and immature, and her crush on Derek didn't endear her to us either. But these days, we say hooray for April; since Meredith declared that the two of them are pals, April's become a lot more tolerable, instead of being Lexie 2.0.

Hey, it's still Grey's Anatomy. We want some romance and cutesiness, and the Mer-Der relationship is hitting a terrific stride. They're so happy as a couple, yet each is going through some heavy stuff. But they're getting through it together! Yay, love.

Once upon a time, Doug Ross was the scruffy rogue pediatrician with the womanizing issues and sexy smirk. These days it's Alex Karev. Finding his calling as a peds specialist has given Alex a depth and sweetness we've seen him try to cover up for the entire series.

''Pick me, choose me, love me.'' Izzie stripping down to her bra while yelling at everyone. The amazing Dr. Bailey speeches. Somewhere after that, though, the show's signature monologues started losing a little bit of their verve and impact. But welcome to the spiel renaissance, as ushered in by Dr. April Kepner, and her terrific ''we're all freaks'' (and virgins) speech.

What do you love the most about Grey's Anatomy this year?

I actually like Avery, because he fights the "pretty-boy" advantage but, every once in a while, he embraces it, (like with Teddy) and he's actually smart. Can nobody mention Arizona's amazing monologues? I mean, the "tiny coffins" and "authority issues" speeches were way better than April's "freaks" speech (although you do have to give it some props).

This season isn't exciting at all. There is nothing "hardcore" about season 7. I started watching Grey's because of the bits and peices I saw on tv always held my intrest. This season is off to a slow start, I understand why. Maybe the newer characters don't hold my intrest as much as the old crew. Although I do love Sloan and Hunt! I don't understand why Christina hasn't gone to counsling yet. Owen had too.

@Whatever Well, I had to write again. I thought Private Practice was pretty awesome. Give KaDee Stickland an emmy! She was amazing. However... I still find a lot of it unbelievable. Addison didn't tell anyone Charlotte was raped?!?!?! Are you kidding me??? Charlotte was in shock, who the hell would listen to her? She was savagely raped and beaten! Apparently Addision thought telling on Naomi's financial mistakes was soooo important that she could break a confidence. But, apparently a savage crime is not as important. Can Pete be in any more denial? He chould have known as soon as Addision wanted to be left alone with Charlotte. Also, if I was Cooper, I would have at least asked Charlotte if she was raped. I would have checked, because if they are as close as they are, he would have known that she was lying... Anyway... this blog is about Grey's! HA HA HA Grey's was good, I find it funny again. I think that they are starting to get deeper into the characters. We finally get to see into Cristina a little more and Avery (with his sleepless nights and temper tantrums). Also... I am calling it now. Mer is getting Alzheimers. She is going to get it and that's how she is going to leave the show along with McDreamy. They are dropping hints everywhere. Maybe too obvious and Shonda is trying to confuse me. What do you think?

Actually I have been disagreeing with mos tof the criticism that has been made in tv fanatic for this season's GA. Since the beginnign of hte season, I think we have old GA back, but with different characters and different storylines. I'm happy to see that the down slope of seasons 5 and 6 is over. The show is again coherent, thoughful, intimate and with great dialogues or monologues and constructed strolines - not just piecemeal episodes! Congratulations to Ronda, she is back on track! LEt's just hope it stays there

I can not stand Jackson is very annoying! Alex I love as always from the first series and I expect a bit of happiness for him.

Owen Hunt is THE reason I watch this show now, week in and week out, especially in the HOT, HOT, HOT, pairing with Cristina. Sandra and Kevin take the few minutes they're given and make each episode worth watching no matter what other annoyances (i.e, Jackson, Teddy) or silliness happen each week. Sandra Oh made me give grudging respect, but I'm a convert because of Kevin McKidd.

Grey's is good again, better than in season 6, but definitely not "better than ever"! It has definitely improved recently, but: It hasn't been as great as it was in season 1 and 2. Those were the best. I still love it, and I'll keep watching as long as it has McDreamy, but "better than ever" is nonsense in my opinion.

Oh another thing...What happend to Groege i mean they dont even talk about him any more or Issie! You know i think would be great!..if Mer and Der would just have a baby that would help the show sooooooooo much!:)

i am forever a fan of grey's and will always watch every ep until it gets cancelled, but aftr the first two seasons, its never been the same. sure it has been great and funny, but NOTHING compares to season two. season two was THE best season ever; come on...the bomb episode was the best episode of TV ive ever watched and the finale was epicly fantastic. the show used to be soooo full of juicy storylines. now its good, but not as satisfying as it used to be. i do miss izzie and george, they added a youthfullness and comedy to the show and now i dont think the cast has the magic it did in season 2. but the show is still good! i will always watch it.

Honestly this is my favorit Tv show...but its just hasent been the same lately! I mean chirstina hasent been herself and There isnt much of Mer/Der or Alex ..i do love the first two though. but i really miss the original`s!:( but its still the greatest show ever!;)

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Burke was- He took something from me. He took little pieces of me, little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know? He wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me Cristina Yang, and then suddenly I was lying for him, and jeopardizing my career, and agreeing to be married and wearing a ring, and being a bride. Until I was standing there in a wedding dress with no eyebrows, and I wasn't Cristina Yang anymore. And even then, I would've married him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time. And now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved Burke. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
