30 Rock star Tracy Morgan is recovering from a kidney transplant and will be written out of the NBC comedy for several episodes this spring as a result.

Executive producer Tina Fey and her staff will explain Tracy's absence by claiming he has a meltdown ... because of a good thing that happens to him.

Yup, sounds like 30 Rock.

It's unclear what necessitated the transplant, but Morgan has battled diabetes for years.

From a writer's perspective, at least this happened to a character you can have go crazy and attribute it to anything to at any time. But from all of us, get well soon, TM/TJ.

Tracy isn't the first member of the cast to undergo this procedure: Grizz Chapman, who plays Tracy’s bodyguard/assistant Grizz, had a kidney transplant earlier this year.

Here's wishing him a speedy recovery from the surgery he underwent Dec. 10. Our 30 Rock quotes library will go on without him, but it just won't be the same.
