Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Kids Stay in the Picture"

at . Comments

Welcome back to the weekly TVF Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel breaks down the previous night's episode (see our review from earlier this morning).

Below, TV Fanatic Managing Editor Mister Meester is joined by our esteemed President Gossip Guy for an in-depth discussion of "The Kids Stay in the Picture."

Our colleague DANdy is off partying with Jack Bass on a multi-nation tour of Southeast Asia and currently unavailable, so it's a two-man show this week ...

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?

Gossip Guy: Absolutely goes to Dorota for correcting Blair and identifying Dan as more of a Labrador than a toad.

Mister Meester: Blair defending Dan and putting Chuck in his place. She may have been too quick to dismiss what she has with Dan, but at least she recognizes him for the standup guy he is, and tore Chuck a new one for involving Dan in his "plot."

2. Focus on Lily's relatives and husbands: Fun change of pace or boring filler?

Gossip Guy: Oh those were here relatives? Seriously, I was wondering who that old lady was. What happened to the fun sister we met in the flashback!? B O R I N G. Hopefully, Charlie will prove to be fun and not just a weird incestual love interest of Dan. Wasn't her cousin / your step-sister enough for you? I saw that look you were giving her...

Mister Meester: I'm not writing this off yet because there are still four episodes left, and there MUST be more to Carol and Charlie than meets the eye, but this was not an exciting episode largely for this reason. The writers have been obsessed with Lily's back story ever since the spinoff that wasn't. I just hope they came up with something good this time and that it ties in with the larger narrative. Also, Dan had better not hit that.

3. More random, out of place confidant: Eric (for Dan) or Epperley (for Chuck)?

Gossip Guy: Please, Eric is so awesome I'd buy him as anyone's confidant. Plus, he's at least been paired up with Dan in previous episodes. Bringing back Epperley, and just explaining her complete change of character in one line? Pff.

Mister Meester: Epperley. Eric felt a tad forced but he's family, which is never too big a stretch. Besides, it's Eric. That kid rocks. Chuck and Epperley plotting - unnecessarily, no less - and sending clandestine texts just felt silly to me.

Circling the Wagons

MEN OF LILY: The Rufus-Will drama felt a little ... unimportant.

4. Do you like Nate and Raina as a couple?

Gossip Guy: Yes, the scenes between them in Nate's bed were absolutely riveting. Much like my sarcasm.

Mister Meester: Hey, the guy needs someone something to do. No, really, I like seeing him as the supportive boyfriend and hope the producers give this relationship a chance to really work (even though I have a hunch it won't happen).

5: Rate last night's episode on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10).

Gossip Guy: This is why I logged in to my inbox to answer this round table. Holy crap. We've always joked about Vanessa being useless before. And unfortunately, I feel like the boy who cried "Vanessa is Useless" because I wasted all my ridiculous numbers. No number can really express just how useless she's become. She literally hides in shadows and comes in too late with advice via voicemails... MULTIPLE TIMES THIS SEASON. Just kill off her character already. Fine, you forced me to give a number: 7,248.

Mister Meester: 9.9 / LMAO at Gossip Guy.

6: Team Dair, Team Chair or Team Prince Louis?

Gossip Guy: Team Dair. They were too nice to each other this week with all that prince/princess crap. Bring back that witty Dair banter from the real Queen and her toad Labrador that I crave. Leave Chair for end game.

Mister Meester: Dan and Chuck sure left the door open for a third suitor, didn't they? Neither stepped up and Louis is going to make them pay the price. The question is whether either Chuck or Dan will fight to win her back - next week's promos sure look like the donut is back in the picture, but things aren't always what they seem. In fact, they usually aren't in Gossip Girl promos. To actually answer the question, I really miss Dair - at least the chemistry and the wit, the connection and them spending so much time together - but ultimately, romantically, I'm hoping for a Chair engagement at season's end.

How do some of you just not get it? Chair is good tv. They are passionate and exciting! I dont get how many people treat Blair like shes this goody sweet princess, when she's a manipulating bitch, and she always was. Her and Chuck truly deserve one another. Nobody will ever love COMPLETE them, except one another. No two people have been created for each other so much than Chair. Dair is cute and witty, but ultimately dry. Awkward shoulder touch and half of second peck proved it.

Check out this clip on Youtube. "Gossip Girl Vanessa Abrahms Must Go : 5 Ways to Kick Her Off The Show!" made by WetPaint. My sentiments, exactly. V must GO!

Gossip Guy, we agree so so so very much. I'm interested in Dair. I want them to play around with it. But it all has to come back to Chair! It just HAS to!!

Serena: (Talking about Blair over the phone) She hasn't left her bed in a week.
Chuck: She's pulling a Camille, but why? (“Camille tells the story of Marguerite Gautier a famous 19th Century courtesan in Paris who lives by her beauty and the support of those men who can pay for it. The tragedy of her situation is that when life means very little to her and she finds herself slowly dying ofconsumption.) Blair: (lying down on her bed) I think I have consumption.
Dorota: Consumption not since 19th century. They have vaccine. Do I need to say more?

Heddy, i may remind you that Blair was hurt and Chuck came out of no where with a girl named eva, Blair then feels jealousy. The thing chuck did at the start was a minus anyway. And then, when Raina leaves chuck, he goes back to blair and then tries to get her back so he wouldnt be alone. Eww, I HATE CHUCK. I seriously hate him. Theres not one single thing thats good about him anymore. Blair deserves better but not a PRINCE! GG is having a guest star explosion. There were so many guest stars in this episode that we barely saw the MAIN characters!

no reality index this week? :(

Anybody else notice that what Chuck did to Dan is no worse than how Blair treated Eva? They both acted in jealousy because they felt the other person was beneath them.

I am so inlove with serena or should i say blake lively im obsessed with serena and dan im amazed

I was sooo disappointed with this episode. I was hoping for more Dair! I keep rewatching the episode and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I'm convinced that Blair isn't as unmoved by the kiss with Dan. I mean if she realized she wanted to be with Chuck why would that make her stay in bed for a week... I think she was scared of some feelings for Dan and she was working it out. I think she convinced herself that it would be so hard especially because of their previous history of mutual loathing ... I think she chose Chuck because it's the safer route and he has the status that Blair wants. But now that she found out about his scheming she dropped him so quickly. She must have feelings for Dan because she was not cruel to him at all and she hasn't been for a while now so I hope she has feelings for him but is afraid to reveal them to him. I hope Dair is endgame, they are so cute together.

I want Dair for a little while, (perhaps to make Serena and Chuck jealous intiially, then grow into something more). But eventually I want them to break up because I think they work best as squabbling friends. Chair as endgame definetly. But I really wish they'd let Chuck redeem himself, and I thought it was pretty unfair on Blair that after everything Chuck did (ie. moving on with Raina like a week after they broke up, what is up with all these chicks he's dating when he reckons Blair is the one and only? JUST STOP CHUCK!!! It was so much better when Blair had been his first and only girlfriend, it made his love more epic and redeeming, like he only ever tried his best to make it work with her.) Anyway after everything Chuck has done to her she's all like oh yeah i want to be your girlfriend again. She always has to forgive hiim, well how abotu evening up the playing field, let her do something really bad and make him have to forgive her for once. Otherwise Chuck just comes off beeing a jerk, and Blair a desperate girl giving up her dreams for a guy. At least Louis may make Chuck and Dan fight for Blair, that would be interesting, and for once Chuck can chase her around. Anyway I hope they don't make Dan go out with the cousin, icky and weird. He's better off with Serena, the cousin bores me I hope she's not a regular, she's just another judging character. Get rid of Vanessa, seriously she's like a creepy stalker watching people from behind corners and then snitching on them! I really hope they never forgive her and she moves away forever = P. What's up with gossip girl reporting about adult (ie. Lilly's) problems? What teenager cares about people their parents age?? It would have been better and more believable if she'd posted about the Dair kiss. It is called gossip girl after all, have her life altering OMG blasts again!!!! And did anyone else find it incredibly sad Chuck had to take a picture all by himself = (. I know Lilly was trying to keep his company away from her scandals, but they could have at least invited him to dinner or something after (or the family photo for their private collection). I mean come on the guy can't enjoy his hotel room because his ex and his BFF are using it as their love nest. Blair doesn't want him. And his biological family (except for his jerk uncle) are dead. Give the guy a break! It's funny how Rufus is like oh now Dan is here the whole family is together, and no one corrected him = (. With an adopted family like that he might as well have no family lol.

Gossip Girl Season 4 Episode 18 Quotes

As with any journey, who you travel with can be more important than your destination.

Gossip Girl

Nate: You okay?
Raina: It's surreal. Everything happening to Lily is because of my dad, and I kind of feel like it's all my fault.
Nate: Look. It probably woulda happened sooner or later anyway.
