Gossip Girl Round Table: "Shattered Bass"

at . Comments

Welcome back to the weekly TVF Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel breaks down the previous night's episode (see our review from earlier this morning).

Below, GG critic Mister Meester is joined by Gossip Guy, TV Fanatic's President, programmer and accountant (among other titles) to discuss "Shattered Bass."

We're pleased to report that our colleague DANdy has returned to the U.S. in one piece, but is recovering from jet lag and being roofied by Jack Bass at this time.

It's a two-man show once again, sadly. But we'll give it our best:

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?

Gossip Guy: In honor of the return of the original Basshole, I have to go with the entire scene in which Jack nags Chuck to speed things up with Thorpe's arrest: "Can we call the cops soon? I'm hungry and all you seem to have are olives and hallucinogenic mushrooms."

Mister Meester: Anything out of Jack's mouth would be a good choice, but I'm giving it to Gossip Girl. She's either raiding Chuck's mushroom supply or just plain phoning it in these days with lines like this, after Charlie poured out her meds: "I don't think that's what the doctor meant when he said 'Use As Directed.'" That doesn't even make SENSE!

2. Dan-Charlie sex scene: Hot, weird or unintentionally funny?

Gossip Guy: "Can you call me Serena?" Seriously Charlie? If you already need to role play in the first hookup, where do you picture things going down the road?

Mister Meester: Unintentionally funny that Charlie brazenly wanted to jump Dan's bones in the headmistress' office, then super hot when they both stripped down, then pretty darn weird when she wanted to be called Serena. Things got awkward pretty fast.

3. Harder to believe: Charlie going crazy after missing one dose of her mystery meds, that Blair and Louis are even engaged, or any part of the Russell/Chuck story?

Gossip Guy: Gonna 100% go with the Russel/Chuck/Bart storyline. They had me until Jack knew about Chuck's relationship with Raina from halfway across the world. What is he checking Gossip Girl's blog too? That was just silly.

Mister Meester: Blair and Louis have no chemistry, but he is nice and she loves a good fairy tale. Everything about the Russell Thorpe story arc is confusing, but at least his shadiness has sort of been put into context. But what the heck is Charlie's mental illness exactly? Why did she stop taking her medication? Why did that turn her into a lunatic in a matter of hours? All unclear.

Louis' Fiancee

ROYAL MESS: Blair nearly made one of her engagement by seeing Chuck.

4. Best guest star cameo last night: Cyrus, Jack or the original mean girls?

Gossip Guy: Sorry Cyrus and Jack, you guys have been always stolen my heart as guest stars and all, but Isabel and Katy!? What an amazing throwback to season one. Does anyone else remember when these girls were on the Gossip Girl Insider cast page? Hah, to think we thought they were going to be regulars and not just GG's attempts to diversify the pilot.

Mister Meester: All offered great continuity with past seasons, but did the mean girls forget Nelly Yuki? Weak. Jack ranting to hurry things up after they nailed Russell was awesome, but I'm still going with Cyrus, of whom there is never enough!

5: Rate last night on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10).

Gossip Guy: In honor of one of the greatest casting articles I've ever read, I'm going to give Vanessa a proper send off with 1. Let us always remember today as the new V-Day. February 14 was so 2010.

Mister Meester: 3. Mocking how useless she is has become too easy, and certainly loses some of its appeal now that Jessica Szohr kind of got fired. The only question is whether we rename this the Rufus or Nate Uselessness Scale for Season 5.

6: Will Blair choose the Prince or Chuck?

Gossip Guy: Definitely the Prince. Much like the little Gossip Girl fans in tonight's episode, we all know I stopped rooting for Chuck. And besides, Blair models herself after 1950s actresses. What's more fitting for her end game than following Grace Kelly and marrying a Prince of Monaco?

Mister Meester: Judging by this photo gallery from next week ... I still have no idea. But it doesn't look like B's too furious with her Dark Knight anymore. Just saying.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

Good episode Jack was great and the cameos were good Cyrus and the mean girls. So I suppose Chuck saves Blair in the finale?
The Russell storyline is blah.
This season so much better than 3.

chuck was brilliant this week! next week is going to save her,but then feeling so guilty of what may have happened to blair after apologizing he will let her go by saying ''you deserve your fairytale'....and she will come back to him like ''we make our own fairytales''...and woo hoo!!! chair forever!!!!

1. I agree with Gossip Guy here. Jack was fa-bass-ulous!
2. I agree with Mister Meester here. All of the above.
3. I gotta rewrite this one! Harder to believe: Serena wanted to see Charlie's Nina Ricci dress and then staring at the black garment back like it was see-thru, Charlie dumping her meds out in the living room waste basket and thinking no one owuld find them there, or that Blair could've just texted Chuck that his uncle was back in town?
4. Jack was good, but they finally got Cyrus to reference 'Princess Bride'. Inconceivable!
5. Agreeing with Mister Meester again on this one.
6. I think the photo gallery wants us to think Blair and Chuck will reunite, but I think it's a trick. Louis is history and the season finale ends with Blair and Dan togethor.
Bonus Question: So we see the return of Georgina in the finale? Can you really fight one crazy with another?

probably not gonna happen any time soon but im DanandBlair all the way:) theyre so adorable together

Best quotes were definitely Jack complaining about hunger, and anything and everything Cyrus said. Dan Charlie scene: I was too distracted by the fact that her boobs were being viciously cut in half by that undergarment/slip thing. It was merely a relief when he zipped up his pants and got out of there. Nothing hot about any part of the scene. The whole Russell storyline is completely far-fetched madness, which apparently they've done only to create conflict for Chuck and a damsel in distress thing for Blair. Depressing. Lousy writing. Of course Charlie could be crazy, and missing doses for quite some time now. Of course Blair could be engaged to Louis--why not? Cyrus is always the best cameo. Jack was really good, but Cyrus is simply the best. The little Constance girls who talked to Chuck were hilarious because they were like echoes of all the CHAIRFOREVER!!! fans one encounters. If that was intentional on the show's part, then I guess the writers should have more credit than I was willing to give before. Vanessa was a 20-level useless tonight, since she did absolutely nothing. Serena was only suspicious when it came to the dress, but not due to anything Vanessa did or said. Blair should choose Louis, but I fear she will choose Chuck. After all, he was able to give her such an unintentional, perfect, dainty wound! Okay, the writers really DO sicken me after all.

1. Jack's " a monarchy smaller than Manhattan" remark.
2. Dan & Charlie's almost-sex-scene ... kinda hot, thanks to the camera angles.
3. Hardest to believe ... that Charlie could fill Serena's cup-size in that cortillion dress.
4. Cyrus is adorable, as always.
5. The BEST piece of GG news I read this week is that V will "poof".
6. Blair will choose Chuck. And then Georgina will abduct her / plan an "accident" / something to prevent the union of our all-time favourite couple. To add to the epicness of it all, Blair will loose her memory......

I want Louis for Blair! I think they are really made for each other and so long Chuck Bass! I would love to see them getting in season 5!

OMG, I saw the episode again and I figure it out. Chuck didn't watched the whole tape that time Andrew Tyler brought it to him at the end of 4x19, that's why he had a breakdown because he genuinely believed Bart have killed Avery. CHUCK ARE YOU CRAZY??!!!!!!!! Who doesn't watch the whole tape?! (Rant over). Jack suspected Russell the moment Russell requested the box that Chuck had with things related to the fire and contacted Nate, who contacted Chuck, and between the 3 figured out there was a cat in the bag. The first time Chuck and anybody else saw the part of the tape when Russell locks down the building before the fire was when they forced Russell to see it with them in the penthouse.

I am both a Chair fan and a Dair fan. I'd prefer her to to wind up with one of them but neither are stepping up to the plate enough. While I don't think she'll wind up with Louis (even if they do make it to next season), the guy has grown on me a little. I was trying to see if she was wearing her engagement ring in any of next week's pics but I can't tell.
I don't know, I was pretty excited to see Cyrus, Jack, (especially after he was siding with Chuck) and the mean girls. Nate also redeemed himself a a little when I realized he was working with Chuck.
I actually have to say I feel a little bad for Vanessa even though I can't say I'll really miss her. I'm not all that crazy about Charlie becoming a regular though. I would say we should root for Nate's uselessness next season. Nate is supposed to be a more regular character I believe.
I knew Russell was somehow involved in the fire. This storyline would've been boring had Jack not come back and worked with Chuck.

@ Victoria you're kind of a bitch......just saying. I mean who gets worked up over comments on a tv show? Anyways gossipgirls amazing and though i love Chair soo much for all the history they have ; i would'nt hate the show if the writers didn't put them back together. GG forever!

Gossip Girl Season 4 Episode 21 Quotes

Chuck: So I thought I'd bring some luxury across the river. Brooklyn needs it. It's all bars, bakeries and babies. No hotel in sight. Charles Place. You up to attend the ribbon cutting?
Nate: No thanks.
Chuck: Still pissed I lied to Reina about my father?
Nate: It was a big lie. Even for you.
Chuck: That's why I'm stepping out from under his dark shadow and away from the Bass name.
Nate: Whatever you want to call yourself or your hotel, you're still the same person.

Good morning, Sleepyheads. Looks like "dream until your dreams come true" wasn't such a good idea after all.
