Gar, my guts churns more and more just thinking about what is going to happen in season 8 and everytime i read the stories online it churns more.
Can we just remember he was saying this to an Italian magazine not the American media. Dempsey and co are on vacation not even working, ABC probably hasn't even approached them yet and most likely won't until they get back to work on July 15 when they commence filming next season.
Shonda has already said next season will be more Mer/Der and their struggles, their struggles to raise a family, work fulltime etc, THEY ARE NOT DIVORCING the fans would stage a riot on here if she does that no doubt. Think the actors themselves should have a big say in the script this season if it really is going to be their last year.
Also with all the sounding off happening with PD his publicist and himself are probably going wow we are loved, Yes Patrick you are the star of the show! with Ellen in second position.
So look forward to season 8, if you think a

I have to add this. What incentive have they given to Patrick to want to stay. He's had very little airtime, ridiculous storylines, etc. Does that sound like remotely any incentive for an actor to want to stay? He's been very loyal, never a hint of discontent, lived up to his contract and what did he get for it. The last two years he's been in the background unless Shonda needed a spoiler or two to make people watch. Then there would be all this hoopla about something that was going to happen with him, and then nothing or a one minute scene. I think it was disrespectful to him as an actor with a long career and an actor that many fans to the show. He didn't go public and act like Katherine Heigl all disgruntled. No matter what he privately may have felt, he never said anything, at least that I heard of. He went to foreign countries for his charity work and along the way he was great advertisement for Grey's. But what did he get for appreciation. Oh yes, less screen time. O
I sincerely doubt as evil as she can be that Shonda would say they split. I'm betting neither will renew and when Lexie becomes the focus they'll refer to them having quit SGH to focus on their family or possibly to start an alzheimer's clinic, etc.

Here's a quote from EW :
"The actor’s publicist released a statement to EW that suggested he was taken somewhat out of context during a recent interview that’s set stirred up Grey’sfans. Dempsey told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair that he won’t return to Grey’s Anatomyafter next season. “It will be my last,” Dempsey said. “I don’t know what will happen with the other characters, but for me, it’s done.”
That sounds pretty clear to us. But Dempsey’s rep says he was only referring to his contract being up after next season and it’s uncertain what he will do next:
“He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds.” "

So I think that it's okay if Patrick leaves. He signed a contract for 8 years and he's been there the whole time. He kept his promise, not like some others (Katherine Heigl, though she had a good reason, T.R.Knight) and so even though I'm Patrick's biggest fan ever, it sure makes me sad that he leaves, but everything has an end and if he says that he's not comfortable by continuing to be Derek Shepherd, than I respect his decision. And all of Grey's fans should respect it. Come on guys. He kept his promise, he made us all happy by not leaving, now it's our turn to support him. He wants to make more movies! The bill is better and if he loves it more, I'm happy for him.
For Ellen, if she leaves, of course it will be awkward because Grey's was made for her in the first place. Grey's without MerDer will be weird, for sure. But there's other characters. Chyler Leight (Lexie) could for sure take the lead, even Ellen said that if she doesn't renew her contract, she'd be happy to see Chyler

I don't understand why people are commenting with things such as:

It's fine to have an opinion of the show, and even though it did start off with 16 million viewers and went up to over 21 million viewers the following seasons and at one time (the bomb episode) went up to 36 million. But if you're part of the 8-11 million people (such as myself) who are still watching this show WITHOUT criticizing it and are NOT going to be backing out because a favorite character OR two may be leaving it AFTER season 8, then well done to you. Before this show started all the original actors signed a 8 year contract Katherine Heigl and TR Knight included (they wanted out of their contracts early), so the rest of the cast have to decide to renew there individual contracts and if they do they stay as Patrick Dempsey has stated he won't be renewing his contract, so when his contract ends at after season 8, Derek Shepherd will no longer be part of Grey's Anatomy.
So we all should be preparing to bid farewell to this amazing show now. Shonda has stated in an earlier interview, that she is heading into season 8 as if it's the series season final.
I have my fingers crossed that the other actors want to renew their contracts and we will see a season 9 and maybe a season 10 minus Meredith and Derek.
We as fans need Shonda Rhimes to come out and actually announce that Season 8 is indeed Grey's Anatomy's final season ever.
Maybe do another spin-off? With the added characters Callie, Arizona, Jackson, Lexie, Mark, Eli, Teddy

This is actually expected in my opinion. Theres gonna be eight seasons and I honestly think it should have stopped after season 5. Season 6 and 7 were just pointless. I love this show and have been watching since season one but I think that they should stop it sooner rather then later because it is really just going downhill. I also do not think that the show should continue without Meredith Grey(Ellen Pompeo) it would be pointless. Like I know this season has pretty much been Calzonas Anatomy but technically it is still about Meredith and I think it would be ridiculous if they didnt stop when she does. The show will be stupid and I cannot commit to watching it after Mer/Der leave, especially since it will be season 9 by then and I think that they are running out of storylines and pretty soon it is just going to be too repetitive. Like how many times can we see a couple break up and get back together or a character almost die? It's repetitive and old and no one wants to watch the same

I'm sure most of the actors are tired of doing this show. This season was absolutely the worst of all. No storyline that was interesting; characters boring and I was looking forward to the commercials instead of watching the show. It's time .. the writer's must be exhausted trying to come up with something new every episode and the characters all appear to be going through the motions instead of really being into the script. Sandra Oh has just gotten worse with each year and this was her worst acting (if you can call it that) ever. Goodbye Grey's - it was fun while it lasted.
