Grey's Anatomy Review: And The Beat Goes On...

by at . Comments

Oh, George O’Malley. It seems like forever ago that you were called 007 and fixing hearts in elevators. Having your mom check into the hospital was instant emotion, and it was great. So let’s waste no more time, get ready to stare at the "Heart-Shaped Box."

This episode pulled at the heart strings in the simplest of ways, but also had some light, fun moments. Let’s start there...

Lexie Bangs

The Plastics Posse. One word. Hilarious. The characters of Sloan and Avery have really found a footing that is enjoyable to watch. They have been providing the laughter in the past several installments of the series. Sloan talking with Derek and Alex about it was funny enough, but the make up scene between the boys was perfection. The love triangle is definitely moving forward after Jackson kicked Lexie to the curb.

Shippers are up in the air about this. Many think Lexie is immature, she doesn’t deserve either, blah blah. I personally think she’s the luckiest girl on the show. But she has now found herself alone. It’s about time Jackson smartened up and realized the situation and its longevity. How long until Lexie is falling back into the McSteamy trap? Kudos to Avery for being mature and handling things so well. That man just gave us something else to admire... about him besides those eyes and abs.

The Men of Lexie Grey

“I will not have another O’Malley lost under this roof!” Debra Monk returned as Mrs. O’Malley and brought some serious memories with her. George is not a character I think about much, not even one I miss the most. But, boy, can you not help but love his mother. Her interactions with everyone were excellent, it was like no time had passed since Monk last played the character.

The scene with her and Callie (Remember Callie O’Malley!!!) after her procedure was raw and perfect. It was so long ago that Callie was her daughter-in-law, it feels like another lifetime. Having Monk come back was a wonderful idea on the writers' part. I can't be the only one who enjoyed it.

Doctor Teddy Altman

Even though 007 was not the best character to walk the halls of Seattle Grace, he provided one of the best twists on television. Ever. Who else remembers George’s mangled face and Meredith’s reaction to discovering who the John Doe was? Top five best Grey’s scenes of all time.

The Bailey Battle. Meredith and Miranda went head to head once again. After the previous fight on the baseball field, I thought we were past this. Looks like Bailey is starting to come around and, although Meredith was completely wrong with what she did, it is about time. These two work best together when on the same team, so let’s get there, ladies.

Ted and Hen

After Thoughts...

  • Is it me or does Scott Foley get better looking with each episode?
  • Speaking of... since when is it okay for husbands to watch from the gallery? Henry’s coughing up blood is not looking too good. Any guesses on what’s next for him?
  • Alex admits to not thinking about George because it leads to him thinking about Izzie. He needs a new girl and fast.
  • Less Kepner tonight. Who was pumped about it?
  • Alfre Woodard guest starred as the author patient of Derek’s and Lexie’s. This was one case that although wasn’t too interesting or emotionally invested that was enjoyable. Plus, her voice is awesome.
  • A sweater set. Bailey is always on with the perfect advice for her children residents. Hopefully the sweater can help in the Zola situation next week.
So what did you think, TV Fanatics? Did you enjoy "Heart-Shaped Box” or was it a let down? Who else was emotional watching Mrs. O’Malley? Make you long for the days of early seasons? Sound off and let us know what you thought. Make sure to check back for the latest Grey’s Anatomy Round Table in the near future, too. Until next week...

I agree how it continues to dissapoint, even with a few good parts, even now they are so far and few in between. I think, that it should come to and end, I hate saying it, it was one of the best shows, I used to love it, never would miss it, but now it is just plain hard to watch. Never did like Private Practice, or any other show Shondra tried. Please just let the show end with greatness with how it once was, I don't want to see it go on like many other shows did, to where it just left a bad memory than good one.

Finally Jackson and Lexie broke up. Kudos to Avery for realizing he is not the love of Lexie's life. And I love Lexie but she has got to... Well... I don't know, actually. If I were her, I'd know it's been Mark all along but I wouldn't just go back to him. I mean, Mark did make Lexie feel like he's always leaving her behind. Their situations just don't coincide at all but... i don't know... Them getting back together must be realistic and EPIC. Oh please, please, don't let Henry die!

Grey's is almost beyond redemption at this point. It hasn't been good for a few seasons, and despite a few bright spots this year it continues to disappoint. I think the creative minds are just going through the motions and trusting that the existing fan base will come along for the ride regardless. Even the episode titles are lazy these days. "Heart-shaped Box." Really? There is a heart in a box, so you go with that? Ugh. I'm ready to give up. The only good thing I can really say about Grey's Anatomy these days is "it's a million times better than Private Practice."

In the first place, Jackson has lost to Mark. Lexis just didn't wish to admit. Lexis should listen to her heart and she knew it. I hope Mark and Lexis will be together, they are prefect. Now how long will it take for both to realize they meant together?

@GA Viewer... Give the man a break! He's stressed out. I would be too if I was getting ready to loose the baby of my dreams. But seriously, you have to admit, he's still dreamy.... just look at those eyes... and when he smiles... perfection! :) Watching this episode brought back some major memories. The reason I started watching this show was because of Izzy, I recognized the actress from other series I had obsessed over in the past. George was so sweet and seeing his mom again, wow. instant tears. It was nice to know that the characters hadn't all together forgotten about them. After all, even though they are gone they still helped mold the characters of the show today. Scott Foley is another long time actor that I keep running into on TV, he's awesome but I know he's not a lifer on this show so this could be the beginning of the end. Next episode looks pretty dramatic. God. I. Can't. Wait!

All I could focus on this episode was how badly Lexie needs a haircut. Was she wearing extensions? Terrible look for her.

I feel the same way, I enjoy watching (Teddy&Henry)together. I think I've been enjoying G.A. more since Scott (Henry) joined in; oh yes I've been watching since season I. If henry dies I will moved on to CBS at 9 p.m. and come back at 10 p.m. for private practice.

Please get Mer back in Neuro with Der where she should be. Hate Lexi's bangs and do not like her in Neuro. Glad Bailey and Mer are starting to get along - Think that Bailey knows Mer is an excellent surgeon (knowing the chief mentored her also), but will still give her a hard time for a little time longer. Again need Mer & Der loving each other in Neuro and at home Please..... When does the hiatus start and end?

The Heart in a Box sub-plot was stupid. The background music continues to drown out the dialogue, so I'm not real sure what was being said by the actors - this is about to drive me away from this series. But most upsetting, Patrick Dempsey is beginning to get un-handsome. He needs to cut his hair and - most urgently - wash it. I'm done with greasy, long hair on leading men - it's about as sexy as the scruffy beards, meaning not at all. Leave the grunge for the villans. But seriously, what is going on with Patrick? He used to be breathtakingly handsome and now he looks a lot more like he did when he first got his start. Give us back our McDreamy!
