PTC Labels Glee as "Reprehensible" for Teenage Sex Storylines

at . Comments

Glee is making no secrets about tonight's new episode.

It's titled "The First Time" and cast members - such as Chris Colfer in his interview with TV Fanatic - have talked openly about how the hour will center on two couples (Blaine/Kurt, Rachel/Finn) sleeping together for, well, the first time.

This is a major problem for the Parents Television Council.

“The fact that Glee intends to not only broadcast, but celebrate children having sex is reprehensible,” wrote PTC president Tim Winter in a statement. “The gender of the high school characters involved is irrelevant. Teen sex is now more prevalent on TV than adult sex and Glee is only playing into that trend. Research proves that television is a teen sexual super peer that can, and likely will, influence a teen’s decision to become sexually active. Fox knows the show inherently attracts kids; celebrating teen sex constitutes gross recklessness.”

Or, if done well, serves to educate and inform.

We'll let readers make up their own minds and we'll post a review of "The First Time" immediately after it airs tonight.

They said Glee sent the wrong message by showing the teen sex.
Yeah, because tv shows should show graphic scenes of teens having casual sex with people they don't know, instead of showing very tame scenes of teens making love with their "soulmates".

Well, I need not say anything really you all have said it quite well. Glee has and continues to handle the subject of teens having sex incredibly well. They don't take it lightly at all - it's a common issue for teenagers: do they wait to have sex or not etc. - there are shows who are far less intelligent in their handling of this subject (I'm calling you out Secret Life of the American Teenager). The PTC needs to chill.

Now wait a minute, are you telling me that teen have sex nowadays? I thought they waited until they get married. Stone them.

There needs to be an extreme right viewpoint in order to find the middle. Yes, the PTC is being ridiculous....But their viewpoint is necessary so that TV won't turn into KIDS. I gotta be that secretly, most of those who decided to balk thought it was all right. The choice was considered and weighed. Both couples avoided being pressured into the act and did it with mutual understanding of what they were going to do, and both couples loved each other. But they gotta get that objection on record.

News flash, PTC: Teenagers have sex. Teenagers have been having sex for a long time. You were probably having sex when you were teenagers (gotta love hypocrisy). At least Glee, unlike other shows, aims to educate about the risks (Quinn's pregnancy) and last night's episode's message was about waiting to be with someone you love.

I absolutely loved the episode, and I think PTC always leans faaar more conservative than realistically makes sense. ...but. BUT. I gotta admit, I'm a bit disappointed that shows like Glee who have the opportunity to mix it up don't actually mix it up. I mean, yes, doing 'the deed' is a big step milestone in a person's life that should be portrayed cautiously and sensitively (and in my books, they rocked it!)... but where's the alternative? Where's the sleeping over without sex, or the fooling around without going all the way? If shows never tell that part of the story, there are probably going to be a lot more kids who think there's nothing in between. How about some scandalous not-quite-doing-the-deed stuff?

OH MY GOD. the ptc need to get their head out of their asses. god forbid 17 year olds have sex! it's not immoral, or evil, or anything! they're not 14 year olds, it's not illegal, they're doing nothing wrong. at least this is actually a realistic storyline; kids at 17 and 18 have sex.

Fuck the PTC. Just fuck them.

Is the PTC a bunch of idiots? Teens were having sex well before it acceptable on TV and they are jumping on the Glee teen sex train a little late one of the major season 1 story lines was about Quinn the president of the celibacy club pregnant with Puck's baby.

It,s not celebrating. And it doesn't influence all kids to be sexutally active. I mean it,s not like you watch the show and do everything that happened in your life. The show shouldn't decide your sex life that's every person's own decision.

Glee Quotes

[to Finn] You know, I don't really know what's going to happen between us, but I know that you used to be the guy that would make me feel like the most special girl in the whole world, and it doesn't feel that way anymore. Now it just feels sad and confusing. And the worst part is that it doesn't even feel that bad anymore.

I'm engorged with venom, and triumph.
