On virtually every TV review site online, the reviewer raves about Catherine Tate and 90% of the commenters rail against her. Remember that all of these sites have to play nice in order to have access. Hopefully the writers of The Office are paying attention to viewer response--the vast majority of us do not want to see Nellie Bertram any more.

Poor Andy, spent the entire episode chasing Erin. He seems so boring, why would Erin come back to him if he behaves this way? Another character who I don’t get is Nellie. She's a terrible actress and isn't funny.

I haven't seen the episode, but I do like Catherine Tate. I too, HATED her character when I saw her in another series, but I watched a few more times and she grew on me. I don't love her, but she's not as awful as I once thought.
As much as Special Victims Unit has fallen without its main character, so has The Office without Michael Scott. I stopped watching The Office because it lost what made it funny. Now the plots feel recycled, jokes feel forced and it just feels like they're stretching for humor. None of the episodes nowadays have anything to do with the workplace, which is part of what made this show funny. Pam and Jim have another kid. Who cares? That 'Christening' episode was one of the worst Office episodes I've ever seen.
This show is crap and I don't know how many more office romances before the viewers starts shooting their tvs. Do us all a favor and cancel the show before we die of boredom.

Listened to your rants. Watched the episode again. Liked it again. Nellie is great. I can imagine people not liking Nellie, but not in comparison to Andy. I'm betting you Nellie haters came out of the woodwork to scream the loudest since you hate her so much, and that it isn't representative of the general audience. If it IS representative of the general audience, that you can't see what a massive improvement this is, then maybe the UK Office fans have been right about you all along.

I have to agree with most of the other comments, Nellie is a horrible character. I can handle her in small doses, but in this episode she was only annoying and painful to watch. This episode was complete fail, disappointment, and pain. I think the writers are forgetting that "we're not sure who the boss is now" is not a strength or comedy point of the show, it's a PROBLEM.

The Catherine Tate character is horribly grating and annoying. For the first time I'm thinking I would be able to wean myself from my addiction to The Office, if she were to a regular on the show. I agree that the interaction between Jim and Robert was among the best of the show. I wish we'd had more of the character Robert California; am sorry to hear that Spader is leaving. I'd love to see Georgia Engle remain a regular. Maybe she and her grandson could move in with Dwight and create some amusing subplots revolving around Dwight and the farm. Every one of the original Office characters could carry the show without a strong character as boss and foil. Just please, get rid of that awful character played by Catherine Tate because I couldn't watch that regularly!

Nellie is a terrible character - boring and NOT FUNNY. She would kill the show, or help kill it. She is boring and annoying - small does are all that is needed.
Get Gary Cole as the Office Manger.
No Dwight - No Office....

* terrible partial season with Andy as boss.

Nellie is no Michael Scott (news flash: NO ONE WILL BE) but she's far better than anyone else they've had as boss. Bar none. She brings the same determined insanity and amoral personal interplay to the role that Michael did. Andy is just lame. Now there's nothing wrong with a character who is a lame awkward idiot, but it's been terrible in the boss role, and his character isn't interesting enough to be the focus of episodes. Almost all of the episodes focusing on Andy as boss have been absolute cringe-fests, and there's no way the Office will continue to live (other than possibly a shell of its former self) with Andy as boss.
I hope they keep Nellie as boss for a lot of reasons - all of the above, plus the potential to ramp up Andy's original role (in a good way, for once) as an awkward foil, since he will be butting heads with Nellie after she took his position.
Nellie haters - don't let the door hit you on the way out. Feel free to watch and rewatch the terrible parti
Terrible character, the Office writers and producers are really reaching here. What is even more dissappointing is the ep thinks she is funny. Really? For the first time I finish an episode unsatisfied.

Gads. What an annoying character. And I loved David Brent's awkwardness.
She is just an annoying shrill idiot who serves no purpose. I'll give it a chance, but like many others I'll just put it on the back burner in hopes it'll change. MAYBE she'll turn into something that doesn't make me want to swallow a bottle of pills.
I'm very surprised how polarizing Nellie is on people, I personally like the character. (Pam's comment 'You're a witch" was great.) BUT...I can see where her act would wear thin if used too frequently. I think Andy should remain the manager and Nellie be used in the same 'occasional' role that Robert California currently has, perhaps as Andy's superior like Jan used to be with Michael.
As for Erin, as much as I like her character I have trouble getting behind her or sympathizing with her. SHE was the one who originally left Andy (for creepy Gabe of all people), and frankly, I thought Andy accepting that, moving on, finding a new relationship and turning down Erin when she waffled back to him added some dignity to his character. Now that he's back with her - before breaking it off with his fiance - it makes him look very bad.
Frankly, I'm more invested in the Darryl / Val storyline as far as cheering on The Office romances goes.

I can't believe you think Nellie Bertram is a good character. Everytime she's on screen, I cringe at her annoyingness.
I agree that the Andy/Erin reunion was boring. I was really excited about it and then I was so disappointed. What should have been a climax fell flat.

If Nellie is on for more than just the next episode, I'll be done with the office for good. I have been watching the first few seasons on Netflix and wow is it easy to see how far down hill the show has fallen.

I have watched every single episode of The Office since it first began. Watching The Office is the closest thing I've gotten to a religion. I was incredibly sad to see Michael Scott leave, but I accepted it. Then, Andy, who I do not find funny, became the boss, but the show was still somewhat entertaining. Robert California is the worst, most boring TV character I've ever experienced. Then, Nellie was introduced in the whole Florida episodes and I thought to myself, "I know she is incredibly annoying, but it's just for the Florida episodes, she'll go away." After just watching this past episode, my opinion of The Office has gone from entertaining and bearable to borderline unbearable. My reaction to seeing Nellie again in Scranton this episode was exactly like when Michael saw the return of Toby. The main characters such as, Jim, Pam, Creed, Darrel, Ryan, Kevin, Angela, Oscar, Meredith, Kelly, Dwight, and even Andy are what make this show The Office. Please please PLEASE get rid of Nel

Catherine Tate is irritating. I will stop watching if she becomes a main character. If you have a sliver of intelligence, you can understand the humor of Robert California. The Robert California scenes last night were the only funny ones. Also, where the hell is Lindsey Broad's character Cathy Simms? She needs to be a main character.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Catherine Tate as Nellie. The office sucked for awhile but now I think it's actually getting to be the BEST EVER with Nellie.
She is funny, weird and random... you can see Michael in her but she is more funny!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Nellie. and she needs to stay and save the show!

Worst office episode yet. Catherine Tate is annoying. After loving this show for years it is apparent that it has bottomed to an all time low. There is no replacing Steve Carell, so the writers shoukd stop trying to. The exsisting employees have strong enough personalities that they shouldn't feel the need to fill Michael's place with a newcomer. If Catherine stays, I'm sad to say..... But I will give up on the show.

I actually really like Catherine Tate As Nellie, I hope she sticks around. But I do agree that there should be more to her than being a total weirdo. She's a million times better addition than Robert California, who hasn't made me laugh a single time.

Catherine Tate is getting really good. However, I can also understand the potential for her to get irritating. She has to be more than just a weirdo. I think if the writers keep her on the trajectory she has been heading the last few episodes (i.e. semi-realistic, but also makes people feel very awkward/insulted) then she might have long-term potential as manager.
