As I came to think a bit more, you might be right about the marriage, but I believe the problem is debatable. Because if he's dead and there is a death certificate, the marriage gets canceled ex lege. But - if there isn't a death at all, then the death certificate should be nullified as if it was never issued.

But then again, it comes the moral aspect of whether the first marriage should be reinstated. So maybe the case law gives the answer if the law itself doesn't. :)

All Dair shipers say that Dan love the rial Blair. After last episode I don't think so. Way?If he loves Blair he mast accept that Chuck is a part of her life and she'll always be with him when he needs her. As a friend, as a family...When Dan decide to be with Blair he was aware of this and hi is trying all the time to make her to forget that. But this is not the real Blair. The real Blair is living in a world with Chuck in it.When Dan accept that I will agree that he has grown up and he is the best choice for her.

Well, as I said, Idk how it is by the US laws. But here if someone is dead (or he is announced to be - by issuing a death certificate) the marriage gets cancelled and there is no hindrance for the widow to get married again.
The motives are from the moral side - for example there could be children born during the second marriage - and it won't be humane to make them illegitimate because the dead turn out not to be dead.

So, in my opinion Lily and Rufus' marriage will stay legit, BUT as I said, there could be huge difference between different law systems and besides I'm sure there are certain people on the show whose duties are to check such legal matters(e.g. Cece's testament; Lily being guardian of Chuck etc.) So I'm sure they will direct that storyline in a way that it fits with the US law. So, we'll see :)))

amazing episode. was so great to have it twisting and turning and actually making sense! the suspence this episode had was fantastic and what it should be in a drama show. great work writers!

  5. FFS

Actually part of me hopes that Dan does end the whole series alone and doing all the things that will make him a great writer. And this is because I like his character. He's better off not being involved with UES and their self obsessed ways. Seriously he's the only one that has managed to something for himself. Everyone else is so privileged but do sweet all with it. What a waste!

    @Lila
Yes you're right Dan should get the love that he deserve - and that is the love of his life, Serena! Dan is in love with an illusion - Blair! It is now clear to everyone! It is better to Dan to save Serena from crossing to the dark side, so would not he have stay alone?

  7. Zoran

    @Lorrain
You are little confused. Lily was widowed after the death of Bart, she was not divorced from him. Divorce and become a widow is not the same. When become the widowed Lily has not filed a request for annulment of marriage to Bart, because it had no reason for it, because Bart was dead. Now the situation is changed - Bart is alive and by letter of the law all over the world a present marriage between Lily and Rufus is not valid. Remains valid marriage between Lily and Bart! Lily can now file a petition for divorce or annulment of marriage as Bart is not dead - he was cheating Lily!

You do realize that the magnitude of the melodrama and issues that CB have faced, relative to the "obstacles" of the last few episodes, is exactly what points to them ending up together? That's like... television 101. The couple that gets the real drama, the tearful scenes, the face-slapping, the OTT declarations of love... that's the couple that prevails.

And IMO, if Blair loved Dan, she would've said it back. There was nothing stopping her from doing so- clearly she has no problem with expressing feelings, no fears of commitment, no hesitations about Dan as a person or as a boyfriend. She's told two other guys she loved them this year alone. So she had absolutely no reason not to... except not feeling it. And given the way she treats him, it doesn't surprise me. I'd actually feel bad for Dan, if I liked him.

  9. shmeh

Dan falls in love with everyone, so there is nothing special about his relationship now. Can people tell me what they predict is going to happen next episode. Majority of viewers guesses are right lol

Better sound in the Canadian promo:

Chuck and Blair all the way!

    @ Maribells

Also didn't CB get, like, an ACTUAL sign from God that they shouldn't be together? LOL, jk, that was just what GG implied in her voiceover and Blair being crazy. But for real, having bad sex that was "clearly an anomaly" in Blair's own words and healthily moving forward by being a team/equals/etc in all of these episodes are really nothing to the relationship issues CB have faced and fallen because of.

  12. Beth

    @ Maribells

    - I'm saying that Dan thinking Blair doesn't return his feelings is a speed bump for drama. I think Blair's heart still belongs to Dan like she said, and that he's the one she wants to be with right now.
    - Sex isn't always amazing on the first try. It's clear DB ironed that out by being honest with each other (even if it took alcohol to get over the embarrassment of saying it), they conquered their bad coming out party, they conquered Blair's fairy tale anxiety, they got through her fears about equality. They are doing great, this episode is the first sign of trouble.
    - I like a little angst, not a lot of melodrama. DB have had angsty stuff on Dan's end for sure. I think DB will break up b/c of a misunderstanding in the finale and have to iron it out next season.

    1) Bad sex and failure at being part of each other's lives are not obstacles- they're signs from God that you're not supposed to be together. And if you're dismissing Chuck and Blair's relationship as a "little speed bump", the phrase "Chuck and Blair are never over" comes to mind...
    2) Dan and Blair have never had "angsty goodness" in their relationship. Literally, not once. The closest they've gotten is sad-mopey-face. I thought the whole thing you guys liked about them was that they were "cute and sweet"? If you want angsty goodness, I'm afraid Chuck and Blair will be the ones providing that.

I don't think I'll ever feel bad for Dan again, to be honest. After the way he's treated Serena and Chuck this season, he deserves whatever he gets. Maybe if something bad actually ever happened to him, I might... but the guy's had a horseshoe stuck up his ass for like 5 seasons now.

But yeah, I agree that this episode didn't compare to S1/S2. I mean, when we say "best episode of the season", that's a pretty friggin' low bar to set. They "built up" Dair only to turn it into the world's lamest relationship, so anything even remotely S1/S2ish would seem awesome after that.

I actually thought the best chemistry/sparks between Chuck and Blair wasn't in that scene at the end- although that was touching- it was in the fun, sexy bits earlier in the episode. I could watch those two snark and have eyesex all day long.

  15. Beth

Dan and Blair's relationship has been really great and strong this season. They have encountered and conquered every obstacle they've faced, and I think this is just a little speed bump for finale drama. People who are saying there's not a single episode they've been solid in have really missed the point! They were cute in this episode, though, even if Dan is panicking. I think Dair will break up over a misunderstanding because of it, but they will be back next season full of angsty goodness.

Not sure what I think of Bart coming back, that's pretty outlandish. I guess it depends on why he faked his death.

  16. Lila

OK I may go against the majority but this was a serious caricature of season 1 and 2 ! They wanted the NJBC back together, ok nice, but they were more like an UES version of Inspector Gadget with the most unrealistic plots added. S. is just so messed up too it's exhausting to watch, it's been like that forever now it has to stop, not that Im a big fan of her but it's getting beyond ridiculous.
Oh and BTW, some see the spark between Chuck and Blair...Come on it's just the usual overwhelmed depressed Chuck face/ Blair on the edge of crying situation. It seems some fans never get tired of it.
Ok I'm mad because Blair didn't return the ILY to Dan, but that line of Dan almost made me cry, it's like he put all his heart in it with the best devotion and sincerity. I felt so sorry for him, poor baby ! He has to get the love he deserves asap.

  17. Bored.

These writers are making me want to punch the TV every episode I watch. Just end the show already if you're going to keep this up. Serena pining to be GG to have a purpose? Sitting in her room on her laptop posting gives her joy these days? Dan is back to being insecure and dropping everything for a girl (shock) Blair set on owning the Upper East Side again? They spend the entire season building up Dair to make it miserable to watch after the 1st episode of them as a couple. Everyone wants the great writing of the first seasons not a repeat of them watered down and boring the second time around...

  18. Rogue

@Maribells that's so true :) and yet that 'perfect relationship'thing seems their most recurring argument :/ don't really get it myself

  19. Maribells

@Rogue I'm hoping we don't have to read anymore "Dan and Blair have the perfect relationship" posts because it's so clearly untrue. They've had problems in every single episode so far- bad sex, trust issues (dowry), that disaster of a party, Blair scheming to hijack his speech, and now more trust issues. They actually haven't had a single episode where their relationship was solid.

  20. Rogue

dear dair fans, i really hope that soon i won't have to read anymore 'dan and blair have the perfect relationship' posts cause the only thing their relationship is is perfectly boring.
i know blair hasn't redeemed herself yet, but her 'whatever' face after dan's ILY almost did it :)
so here's hoping for a new episode of NJBC scheming, chair flirting and dair breaking up ;)

  21. Cris

Best episode of the season !!

And just another thing, I've just posted it in the round table thread, but I will post it here too, as I think it might be some food for thought :

in my country and probably in most of the European countries (due to the legal systems here), actually IF ONE IS DECLAIRED TO BE DEAD, A MARIAGE CONTACTED BETWEEN ONE'S SPOUSE AND A THIRD PARTY WOULD REMAIN LEGIT EVEN IF ONE TURNS OUT TO BE ALIVE.
Idk how it is with US law, but if it is like in the european system, then may be Rufly's marriage would still be legit.

  24. Lorrain

I would love it so much if in the season finale Blair chooses Chuck but he tells her that she should spend some time thinking how she's been treating him lately and to work on being a powerful independent woman all by herself.
So, season 5 ends with Blair alone.
All that for Chair to get back together at the end of season 6 - happily ever after! :)

And seriously, COULD THE STYLISTS PLEASE WORK ON BLAIR'S APPEARANCE A BIT? I mean, she's nowhere near her looks in season 1 & 2.
Her hair is disgusting - so flat and no shine at all. And her clothes - I miss so much the chic girly outfits she used to pull off! Now it's all about buns and boring dresses! Even her sleeping attire is boring!
