Grey's Anatomy Review: The Pressure Is On

at . Comments

One in five. Things are not looking too good for our residents right now.

"Moment of Truth” had the gang travel to San Francisco for their oral boards and, boy, did they bring along some baggage. Let's discuss.

Exam Time. Meredith, Jackson, Alex, Cristina and April. That’s five. That means one of these residents is most likely not passing their boards. Is it Alex, who didn’t make it to his exam in time? Meredith, who was fighting a stomach flu? Cristina, the robot, dealing with her failing marriage? April, dealing with her lost virginity? Or Jackson, who’s lucky pencil broke right before the exam?

Jackson Suits Up

First Time Hookups. Another city, another state of mind. April decided to do the deed with the ridiculously hot Jackson Avery. First of all, it’s about time. There has been some chemistry between these two for a while. Second, how could you let Jackson get out of your bed? April’s mistake was letting Avery leave after their little escapade. Nothing would relax me more than waking up to those beautiful eyes.

Jackson wasn’t the only Avery having some fun in San Fran. Catherine Avery showed up just in time to make Richard smile for the first time in too long. These two make a great pairing. Masters of medicine. Of course, theirs is the baggage that Richard’s wife is battling a disease and sleeping with another man. What to do?

Last Breath. Alex showed once again why he belongs in peds. He left San Fran to be by Morgan and Arizona’s side as they fought for Morgan’s baby’s life. Arizona said it best. She needs Alex to be her peds fellow, and so do we. I can’t imagine Seattle Grace without Alex “The Underdog” Karev.

Could a Morgan/Alex romance be brewing? We talked about this before but it seems to keep creeping back up. Alex deserves a real relationship with a woman who is not crazy. Could Morgan be the one? I wouldn’t hate it.

Get On the Bus

Kudos to Amanda Fuller for her heartfelt scene of losing her child. Extremely sad and emotional. Perfectly portrayed.

Friends? With Jackson out of the hospital, Mark spent his time chatting with Lexie. His “I need you” had me so excited, until I realized it was just for a case. Although it has been a long time since these two have been a couple, I still find myself rooting for them. What do you think? Do Sloan and Lexie belong together?

The scene between Lexie and big bro-in-law Derek was touching. Derek knows that Mark still cares about Lexie and vice versa. Time to play matchmaker, McDreamy!

After a verbal beat down from one Ms. Miranda Bailey, Teddy reached out to Owen in that sense of letting him know Cristina is ready for her test. To be honest, these two haven’t shared many scenes lately and I almost forgot they were fighting. Hopefully, they work it out. Owen is going to need a friend if Yang decides to head East for a new job.

BFFs. Once again, Meredith and Cristina proved who the heart and soul of this series is. The friends shared some quality time on the sides of Mer’s door. It was about time that Cristina admitted about Owen’s affair. Watching these two is more enjoyable than half the cases.

After Thoughts:

  • How cute was Zola in her bumble bee costume?
  • Who else thinks Jackson should wear a suit every day? Or nothing at all?
  • How hilarious was Jackson showing up at his mom’s room to find Webber? Not awkward at all.
Overall, a solid episode once again. There are only three episodes left of Season 8. Maybe only three episodes left with the original cast. So tell us what you think, TV Fanatics. Who will be the one, if any, to fail their boards? Is Alex going to be able to take his? Was the Jackson/April hookup hot or not?

Don’t forget to check back for the Grey’s Anatomy Round Table later in the week after you hit the comments and sound off. Until next time, Grey’s fans.

@Acacia: I really don't get how your comment is linked to mine? Never said Mer is the reason just that she doesn't know a thing about Owen or his relationship with Cristina and that her judgmental behaviour annoys me since season 5. But thanks for calling me short-sighted and stupid???

I agree with everything you say Kelly. Maybe next season a miracle will happen and we can see Alex and Izzie reunite.

"Alex deserves a real relationship with a woman who is not crazy" pretty sure Morgan seems a little crazy at the moment. Sure she is going through difficult times but so were the other girls he was with. In my opinion, I don't think Izzie was crazy, just sick, and I feel Alex got it right. It was just crazy she left him.

@metumble, Tamara, McKidd; Let's see the real things. She and Owen have problems in their marriage (as does/did all of the characters on this show) and they or may not be able to work them out. Christina realizes that she is more than a surgeon, she wants to have someone to love in her life.
Is Owen perfect? No, but Christina is far from perfect herself. She could choose to remain forever alone because she is Godlike and no mortal could please her, but she is choosing to let her personal needs be a part of her life for once. Finding someone who you love and you love you is no easy task, and even if she finds someone to date who doesn't want children, it certainly does mean they will fall in love.
So short-sighted and stupid idea that Meredith is the reason of things.

Not a fan of Morgan. I really hope imdb is right and that is her last episode.

@Metumble and MC Kidd : youre so right. I understand that Mer tells Christina that he is a pig for cheating, every friend would say that, BUT she doesnt know the whole story! or she ignores it. She knows that they never talked about the abortion and all tha stuff.
And seriously she is the last person to be so smart about marriage. Her and Mc Dreamy were SO annoying after a while. it took them like 10 years to finally be happy together . On/off all the time. So maybe no one cheated, but i dont think she should tell christina to get divorced and then say: yeah but u should stay cause of me?? little bit selfish? and unfair for owen. But i think Christina is smart enough to know that. If she wouldnt still love him, she would have left him ages ago

I don't know why people are surprised about April's reference to her belief in Jesus being the reason she was upset about losing her virginity. She's spoken of her religious beliefs (briefly) in the past. Let me do some searching and I'll list the episode(s) for you.

I like Meredith but when it comes to her opinion about Owen she just annoys me. It's clear that she detests him and she did so already back in season 5 and it never really changed.I bet she was hoping for something like that to happen so Cristina would have to leave him and she could have her all to herself again. She does not know Owen, she does not know the whole situation. I never liked that Meredith thinks that she's the only one who understands Cristina (eg season 7 when she accused Owen of letting her fall apart or when she said Cristina is like her Mum, because she clearly is not)The real problem with Crowen is, that for Owen Cristina was and will always be his #1. But for Cristina Owen's been #3 so far with Mer and sugery as her #2.

@McKidd: I would have respected your right to hold your own opinion about Mer-Cris, until I got to: 'just crazy typical women' Grow the fuck up.

In general, the episode was pretty damn dull. So plenty of screentime for April (of the crazy chicken ) uh?!
And April's sudden bout of Christianity is still really confusing to me. Totally random and not in line with the character we've known. That was some awful character development.
Alex, stupid hamster wheel again.
Ellen and Sandra really saved the entire show! (And I think that Ellen does her best work opposite Sandra.) Meredith wanting to be with Zola when she's sick, MerDerZola & Cristina/Mer's friendship. Meredith has on her mind when she suggests Cristina to leave Owen. Cristina must decide, that Meredith will support whatever Cristina decides to do.
Thank you, Bailey!

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Episode 21 Quotes

They started off with such little promise, it's like I'm looking at a miracle.

The only thing between you and the rest of your career is a test in a random hotel in a random city with a random examiner asking you random questions. Nervous? You should be.
