Dear Thomas, thank you for doing this interview during your hiatus. It's very interesting to see what you think of Hotch and how you perceive and express the character. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for the seven years you've invested in my favourite show and my favourite fictional character of all time, with nary a misstep or a false note. While my friends and i miss you being chirpy on Twitter, we're not the least bit surprised you de-perched seeing the unfortunate response here from some quarters. Wish you all the very best for next season, and hope you're enjoying your hols :-)

Soon they will go into Season 100 and Thomas will be the last man standing in a once-great show. He would be happily married to Beth and they will have lots of grandkids. Although we don't see all of these, of course, as it's a crime show which is so scary, dark and violent. It'll all only be in the background.

I agree with many of you here, glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I really didn't think it would get worse than season six, but this season has proven that it was possible. In fact, I actually preferred season six; at least there was a legitimate excuse. There really is no excuse about the poorness of this season.
Slopping writing, lack of team members in some episodes, way too much unsub, and guest stars that no one cares about that completely take over the episode have made this season horrible for me. (I'm not talking about Beth because I don't care for her one way another.)
I really love this show, and I'm just really disappointed. All these promises Erica Messer made last summer about how fantastic the season would be, and how there would more team involvement, have been false. I honestly don't see myself watching past the season 8 premiere, because there isn't much to look forward to.
And yes, tone down on the Garcia one-liners. So awkward and inappropriate!

Wow, such venom!
There's no way Hotchner and Prentiss could hook up and still be on the same team--she's his subordinate, and that isn't allowed in a lot of law enforcement (and other)agencies, for security and safety reasons. So, if they started a relationship, one or the other would have to leave the team. Would you rather have that? Aaron would NEVER betray his team by conducting an affair under the radar.
I think they need to tone down Garcia's one-liners, though. Many of them sounded forced this year and, as much as the team may love her, she's been way too casual with talking to them, when other people are on the same call. There IS such a thing as decorum.
Wedding? Hmm...JJ/Will, Hotch/Beth, Penelope/Kevin, Prentiss/whomever...or, will it be some other couple that they haven't yet telegraphed to us, somehow?

We need to give serious thought to this show being 'fictional' and not attack the characters as if they don't know what they are doing and being maliciously about an individual and how you perceive them, i.e. ego getter, the writers when you don't know them personally. Could you write a better script. C.M. is still one of the best shows on T.V. Thomas Gibson is an incredible actor as all the team are and I don't think they deserve to be trashed like that. Just remember you're dealing with somones livliehood. Acting is tough enough without taking the bigger picture into consideration, look beyond the end of your nose!

Hotch is the best and Thomas Gibson is wonderful and I'm guessing that after 7 years he knows his character and what his character would or wouldn't do better than just about anyone so I trust him to continue to blow me away with his always accurate portrayal of SSA Aaron Hotchner. Looking forward to season 8 and how he handles the new relationship in his life. Thanks for the interview!!! : )

I thought TV shows, especially those like Criminal Minds, were supposed to be for the fans, not to feed Thomas Gibson's ego and to see Hotch smile. Gibson, Messer and the writers have destroyed Season 7, after a horrible season 6; and I thought season 6 was the bottom of the barrel.
If Beth and the unsubs are all that matter to Gibson and Messer, why host chats, lie in columns and mislead fans into thinking we "ALL" matter. Many of us obviously don't, especially those who have supported Hotch/Prentiss and who have been loyal since the beginning of the series. You've cheapened this show and chased Paget away. Why would she stay to have Prentiss recite throwaway lines while Hotch has all the fun with Beth. The rest of the scenes are focused on the unsubs and guest stars.
I used to love and adore Gibson, I'm beginning to despise the man. I really believe his new contract gave him the power to feed his ego; and Messer as showrunner is destroying the show by sucking up to him.

Thanks so much Mr Gibson for telling me just how freaking much you like your Beth storyline, looks like I'll be skipping another episode... or episode. I've hated the idea of Beth since it was mentioned.
Am I a Prentiss-Hotch shipper? Yes, can I live with it never happening on screen? Sure that's what the imagination is for. But really? Do I need to hear that she'll be getting more screen time at the expense of Prentiss, Morgan, Reid and Rossi? Just how much storylines did Reid or Prentiss get this season? One for Prentiss, zero for Reid. A tiny slice for Morgan but four episodes featuring Hotch's love interest. Gag me with a spoon.
Damn you Erica Messer, you've sunk this #1 show down with your crappy writing and even worst character assassination of Hotch. Give me back my Prentiss. Heck, I'll take Seaver back if it gets Beth off my screen.

God someone please get Beth off my screen. I hate the character more then Foyet/Doyle/Hankle combined and that speaks volumes. I'd rather see Hotch alone then with that thing that they're calling "lovely". She's a boring waste of screen time that's been focused on, even for a minute, which is more then a minute too long.
Btw snce this is Pagets last two episodes how about we focus on her instead of an unsub focused story, the new "bad ass" JJ or the stupid stalking Beth?
I am a Hotch/Prentiss shipper and would've loved an exit focused on a moment featuring them, but I'll settle for anything that doesn't feature Beth or any happy ending featuring them.

Ups, this maybe the finale; Hotch speeds to the altar bc Beth says she is pregnant and she exactly knows what she got into when choosing Hotch and Jack, Will will die (sadly) this adds to JJ's character more drama and deepness, Prentiss silently hooked up with Clyde and then she's gone a dishonorable exit. Garcia/Kevin reconcile, Rossi/Strauss make out and last not least Reid and Morgan will give a try. Do I want to see this? WTH

Turn Hotch around 180°, I'm among those which too don't recognize him. I thought it didn't work out between the two as a love couple, but today I learnd it obviously did, which means Hotch lied to his son in 7x16 about who she is. Not a white lie and this fact speaks volumes about his relationship to his son. Son doesn't tells Daddy he is bullying at scool, Dad doesn't tell son he has a girlfriend and now she already moved in with them. What does it need to betray your fans? And what we will see an arranged marriage? Or what kind of twist is TG talking about.

The people that die in the hands of real serial killers.....the victims of Andre Chikatelo, Ted Bundy, the Zodiac Killer, Jack the Ripper I could name many more. I'm not sure what to make of Beth. I do know that I don't want her to change Hotch into somebody I don't recognize. I like his image at work--he is the unit chief. People need to answer to him. He shouldn't be made to look like a push over otherwise, especially in front of his agents. I am not saying he looks that way now but it appears to be moving in that direction. I like the Hotch who spoke to Reid at the end of Elephant's Memory, even telling him he would fire him if he pulled a stunt like that again. He is a strong character and needs to stay that way!
I also don't like all of the promises the writer's made as well as EM regarding Reid and then no delivery. We were promised a "great Reid arc" and didn't get a thing. We were promised the headache storyline and it wasn't even mentioned. We were promised another Reid episode this season and again NOTHING. I doubt we will even get the Reid/Morgan car pool scene that one writer mentioned in a chat. I have no faith in the season fin

I totally agree with Kevin about the unsub-heavy plot lines in S7, with the main cast in the background and the lack of mystery. I think this is one of the contributing factors to the show's ratings. But I am also a bit puzzled as to why they keep using the tagline, "want to see Hotch smile" as a marketing tool to promote the Beth character even though Erica said that she felt Hotch and Prentiss were more "organic" than Hotch and JJ and that they didn't want to pursue Hotch/Prentiss at this point in time. Looking back to Seasons 3 to 5, there were more scenes of Hotch and Prentiss alone especially in the context of Hotch/Haley quarrels and then the divorce papers served and many other significant events in each of their lives (The Reaper arc and death of Emily's childhood friend, etc) After the middle of Season 5, suddenly they switched gears and stopped pursuing this potential story line ( I didn't say relationship so don't jump) between Hotch and Prentiss.

I can't stand Beth, either. I hate her giggly, stalker ways. Hotch deserves better. Why does she even have to be mentioned? We rarely saw Haley. We rarely see Will. Even Kevin working in the same building as the team doesn't mean we see him all the time. If they want to make the show better, get back to focusing on the team and the profiling and leave the romances alone.

Only a delusional shipper would believe that Beth's 10 minutes of screentime could affect the ratings. It's so stupid. What planet do you people live on? Let's see Beth hasn't been around now for 6 episodes and last weeks ratings were a series low. Wow, that Beth has some really strong influence if she's killing ratings six episodes later. If anything is hurting CM's ratings it's that they've been featuring the unsub too heavily in the majority of the episodes and pushed the main cast into the background and they've upped the violence and gore factor and they've done all this in lieu of presenting a good mystery week after week and it's cost them viewers. Do you really believe the average viewer cares enough about Hotch's love life to affect whether or not they'll tune in from week to the next. Only shippers watch tv like that and there aren't enough H/P shippers to affect the ratings. They wish they were a million strong. LOL
Birdie
May 15th, 2012 4:39 PM
Despite the fact that every episode that Beth has been on has resulted in the ratings drop, every time she's mentioned in an interview the numbers drop for that week's episode, and despite the fact that Erica Messer herself acknowledges a significant amount of people don't like Beth, Criminal Minds still insists on continuing with her. Beth isn't the only problem with Criminal Minds now, but she is indicative of how poorly run and written this show is now. Season 7 is absolutely terrible and this is coming from someone who thought things couldn't get worse than Season 6. Guess I was wrong about that, but not about the quality. Compared to the Season 6, Season 7 on the averag has lost over a 1 million total viewers and is down over one-tenth of a demo point. Things like insisting on continuing with Beth and ignoring half the cast (where HAS Reid been all season???) in favor of someone irrelevant like Beth will just continue to sink this show.

Sofia what is the "we" stuff? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Why do the Beth haters seem to think everyone or even a significant number of the fan base feel the way they do? Do they really think they are large enough in numbers to affect the ratings? LOL If that's the case they must be affecting all of the ratings because the numbers are down everywhere. Also, if you've supposedly given up the show why do you insist on polluting CM comments with your venom? Hotch and Prentiss are NEVER going to hook up so get over it and spare me the "I'm not a shipper" line. Of course you are. Only a shipper would get so worked up over something so trivial.

LOL

Thomas would make the best FBI agent of course! : ) Hooray! More Hotch and Beth! Thanks for the interview! I love Thomas and miss his odd and witty tweets. : )
