The characters are no three dimensional. None of them are. They are blatantly sad. All whiny, annoying and easily called stupid.
I cannot wait for Elena to turn into a bigger bitch. I cannot wait for Damon to stay in one position where he either has sex with countless women, or does the puppy dog face to Elena. I cannot wait for Stefan to raise his eyebrows. AND I cannot wait for Caroline to be the next Elena.
This show is absolutely horrible. This has turned into One Tree Hill, or the OC. Like come on, writing wise, character wise and plot wise. IT SUCKS SHIT.
Get real shipper fans, if Damon was played by Ian Somerhalder, nobody would be watching this show.
he still manage to be evil enough where he tried to kill Elena 3x21.
by...throwing stuff at her house after he tried to enter him anouncing his presence and was not able to? How smart. Sorry, that was hilarious and not in any way "good" for his character. Someomne who was set up as paranoid chessmaster, came off as a complete fool.
Damon is no cry baby, his trade mark humor is still there, he's still witty.. im sure you can agree on that.. but as his personality goes, he has grown in an amazing way.. his buried emotions in S1 are now at the surface....please tell me how Damon has suffered character assassination, when? how?
because the show stripped away the layers to leave the only "emotional crybaby layer". Damon went from multilayered complex character into a very one-note one. That's not growth, thats simplification.

Damon is no cry baby, his trade mark humor is still there, he's still witty..
Even his humor is becoming lame. If you can laugh when Damon tells Jeremy "Whats the use of him dying and coming back to life if he can't talk to a dead ghost" when Damon needs him too...well I find that humor creepy, especially given the fact that Damon has killed Jeremy once before.
Damon is a cry baby unfortunately because the way he takes rejection from Elena is just what a 17 yearold would behave life. Throw a tantrum and go off drinking and sleeping with some random chick in a bar...and probably feeding on her later. He is so obsessed with wanting Elena to love him that he keeps sinking lower and lower.

Damon try to restrain himself from Elena for half of S3
By making puppy sad eyes at her at the end of The Hybrid telling her to remember all everything she felt for him while Stefan was away? By telling her to give up on finding Stefan?
He kill Abby even though Stefan lost the coin toss. He Saved Matt from Kol...he didnt kill a human the entire Season.. He valued his friendShip with Alaric and even try to reconcile mutiple times. And was he suppose let Elena die for Abby's Sake.. he had the decency to turn her...
He saved Matt from Kol because he was there by pure luck. Damon didn't kill a human the entire season? Abby is not a human being? To make her a vampire he had to KILL her. He had the decency to turn her? So killing is decent?

No ships were created this Season
Yes, they just came out of nowhere and suddenly we had Klaroline, Klaus-Caroline-Tyler "triangle" and Bonnie and Jamie.
The characters like Damon,Elena,Stefan,Matt,Klaus became even more three dimensional and more complex...as well as jeremy
Please name the episodes where Elena's, Matt's and Jeremy's characters became even more than 3 dimensional and more complex.

Damon's growth can be traced backed to povital points in S1 and S2.. where he has changed for the better. Damon is the most 3 dimensional character in the show!! Tell me when and where Damon did something 'Out of Character', im sure i can counter. As for Klaus, Klaus has won a cult following, so thats why his love interest had to be presented. Granted it could of been executed better but it had to be done, however even with the Klaroline storyline, he still manage to be evil enough where he tried to kill Elena 3x21.

Asuka, If you dont like any character in the series, please dont watch it!!!I think is Entertainment, they have to keep developing the Story and we have to wait and see whats coming.... so far, I like it
At the bellow commenteR: but is that a character growth or character assassination?
If that is growth then Klaus too grew ! Grew from an interesting villain to ponny-painting wussy.
Damon's "growth" goes against his baseline. Its not growth. Its stripping down the layers into one-dimensional archetype. Damon started as a mixed character with many layers. By now there's just "wussy crybaby". There are no layers. no shades of gray anymore. Damon is a shadow of his former, INTERESTING, personality and thats not growth. Thats something every character except Caroline has suffered in this show.
Caroline's character grew with a meaningful and consistent character development.
Everyone else degraded.

No ships were created this Season, DE and SE existed well before S3, and the main triangle were not coupled through out the entire season..SE only shared one kiss and that was the finale..DE only shared two...Tyler and caroline was the only long running relationship with a couple of bumps in th road. Jeremy, bonnie, elena, stefan, damon, matt, remained couple less for the entire season, except when jamie came into the picture for bonnie. The show became more mature because it appealed more to the male audience ... The characters like Damon,Elena,Stefan,Matt,Klaus became even more three dimensional and more complex.. as well as jeremy.. The guest stars also did incredible jobs, great castings for Mikeal,Bill,Esther, and new fan favorite rebekah.. To complare Elena to Bella just shows how much you hate VD... Bella has not a lick of charater..
yep. the show left "mature" two seasons ago. all that is left is shallow soap without logic or coherence and with even more , unlikeable, bland, underdeveloped and personality-less "protagonist" than bella swan

As for VD S3..yes sometimes it felt a bit inconsistent, but overall it still delivered jaw dropping moments and heart breaking scene and enough DE and SE scenes to quench the Fan girls thrist... warranting a 9/10 season overall.. VD matured considerably this season. thats why alot of fan girls were turned off, the fan girls wanted more grounded couples and twilight moments, i personally loved it as a male viewer.. i do feel some characters were being used to often for plot advance.. The show is wayyyyy to boring now. It's turned into the Elena and Damon show. Damon crying, Damon chasing elena, elena chasing damon, etc. With the rest of the other characters tossed in. They start a storyline but then it always goes back to damon and elena. Before the Delena bullys start there usual put downs. I am not a selena, klausfine, whatever. I was a fan of the vampire diaries. Season 1 and 2 were great. Season 3 was NOT the season of the originals it was the Damon and Elena show. I will watch it next season but just not be that upset if I miss an episode or two now and then. When season 1 and 2 were on I'd make sure I had no plans for Thursday nights because I would never miss an episode.

Caroline and Tyler are sadly the only characters that i still care for on this show. They feel real and developed for me but its just a matter of time before they get screwed up as well, though i think Tyler might already be there with Klaus in his body and everything (seriously what were the writers thinking?) Everyone else can go die for all i care! Especially Elena and Damon! S4 teases don't sound all too promising, more retcons and unessasary created drama to come...
BTW, what is wrong with this shows need to kill off (or write out) all the adult/parental figures? Its just plan weird, creepy and really sick.

Kol: i'm sorry but this guy was only, and mean ONLY, around for the sake of eye candy. Nothing else. His only personality traits appeared to mischievousness and violent tendencies, nothing else! He was useless and completely unbelievable as an original.
Finn: the next original that i believed had potential (next to Elijah). His suicidal tendencies could have been written as genuine selflessness in wanting to get rid of his family but noooooooo. Instead, he was given a stupid love plot (i WON'T talk about Sage), no personality and is made suicidal and useless. Finn was a waste yet he had so much potential!
Elijah: the ONLY original that felt remotely dangerous and sinister, yet somehow manages to be likable. But when he started talking about how wonderful and caring Elena was, i was afraid that he too was going to fall in love with televisions favourite useless character and mary-sue! Argh!
Asuka
June 6th, 2012 7:02 AM
The Originals: seriously! Can someone please tell me what is so likable about these guys?
Klaus: He went from a badass towards the end of S2 to an annoying, artistic, big-mouthed crybaby, pining for love and affection and Caroline in S3! He failed as a villian so badly! And if the writers were trying to give him "depth"- they failed again! They basically defanged the guy! He has overstayed his welcome and i really just wish that he could go away already!
Rebekah: Rebekah is Rosalie (Shes even jealous of Elena like how Rosalie was of Bella ,for god sakes!) The only differences between them is that Rosalie wasnt a slut and acted like a childish, whiny, selfish spoilt brat with mommy issues, just like her brother Klaus. Rosalie was the stereotypical "popular blonde" bitch! I can't stand Rebekah!

Bonnie: a personality less (now expression less as of S3), plot device whom the writers want to sadly disguise as an up and coming Willow Rosenberg.
Yeah right.
I could care less about Bonnie and wish that she would just die or go away already! After what they did to her mother (another personality less, expression less plot device), i dont care to see what they would do with her father. Its too little too late imo. And is Bonnies ancestoral family the ONLY powerful existing witches in this show? (Esther doesnt count and that father and son back in S2 were merely just plot devices.)

June 6th, 2012 6:42 AM
Stefan: Edward Cullen 2.0 just trade in the creepy stalker tendencies for a blood addiction (which has sadly become old, recycled and a plot device to add depth to his character). I actually liked Stefan back in S1 but now, i'm just disapointed. The Ripper was a complete failure and throughout the season, i kept wondering if Stefan was suffering from bipolar or something!

I get that the writers were maybe trying to create a Buffy "Spike" type character (which is good) but, Spike is complex (and really likable), Damon is messed up. Theres a difference!
Asuka
June 6th, 2012 6:22 AM
Elena: i honestly doubt turning Elena into a vampire is going to make her anymore interesting and likable (and less annoying) than she already is. Elena is an annoying, selfish, immature (though constantly mistaken for mature), whiny, useless, personality less, reaction less damsel-in-distress. Yet with all these faults, shes still somehow portrayed as a mary-sue and is the main character of this show. I actually like Bella Swan better because unlike Elena, Bella at least had the decency to admit that she was useless and weak and clingly and shes not nearly as self-righteous as Elena Gilbert and "caring". I honestly could care Elena and who she is shipped with, because both relationships are incredibly messed up!

damon, whose character develops as the series progresses cos he's in love with this one girl.
Unfortunately, no. Damon's character has been degrading as a result of his love for Elena - everything he does is in the of Elena. I laugh when people say, well, he has become more stable and caring. Total BS because Before Sunset proved that he still could not care less since he was ok with the possibility of Tyler dying if they kill Klaus. Even his apology to Bonnie was all about Elena, like sorry Bonnie, Elijah left us no choice, and basically say thank you it wasn't you. How is that character growth? Damon must grow on his own, not just because it will make Elena like him more, but for himself, if as the show tells us, he is so full of gold inside? But no, he lets his whole world revolve around her, that's not love, that's unhealthy obsession.
