Constance Zimmer has signed on for a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Cahill, who's described as "a super-confident, self-possessed, laser-focused professional with a wicked sense of humor."

In other words, her character is cut straight from the Shonda Rhimes cloth.

Speaking of Rhimes, and based on the recurring nature of Zimmer's role, it's possible Dr. Cahill could be the new love interest for Alex that the series creator and executive producer has promised.

Just one theory, of course, but one that doesn't feel far-fetched.

Zimmer's many TV credits include Entourage, Royal Pains, Boston Legal and The New Normal. You can also see her in Netflix’s upcoming original political thriller House of Cards, which looks awesome.
