Covert Affairs Finale Review: Annie Gets the Guy

at . Comments

Covert Affairs Season 3 presented a new, mature, Agent Annie Walker. She got a gun last season and this year? She got her super spy mojo!

Even though the season ended on what should have been a happy moment with Annie and Auggie kissing, it had a somewhat somber mood. After everything Annie has been through this year, it was a relief that Auggie - her best friend - would want her in that way.

Covert Affairs Season Finale Scene

She was the one who wanted him not that long ago, but a lot has happened since then as well. Annie had to deal quite a slew of events: Jai was blown to pieces in front of her, her sister moved away, she fell in love with Simon, he was killed, she killed Lena, she went to a Russian prison, Eyal rescued her (with Auggie's help), Eyal betrayed her, she lost an asset, and she was presented with Wilcox's mysterious folder. And I'm sure I've missed a few pivotal moments, but it had to be a comfort to find herself in Auggie's arms.

Since the beginning, I have been against a relationship between Annie and Auggie, but those darn Covert Affairs writers pulled one on me. I loved this. It was authentic and natural how it all came about. I never thought I'd be rooting for Annie and Auggie to make a romance work. She needs someone she can count on. And, despite his previous womanizing days, Auggie is ready for a solid, committed relationship and she is as well.

Enough with the romance, let's talk about the spy stuff! In "Lady Stardust," Annie upped her game and her "excellent spy craft" as Henry Wilcox put it. She was top notch when dealing with Khalid. Even if Auggie hadn't shown up, I don't think Annie would have handled over the names to Khalid. She would have come up with alternative.

Annie successfully got the information from the consulate and would have found a way to get Eyal back. In the end, the fake shooting and escape, while risky, was a brilliant plan. She quickly outdid herself with Khalid.

Her manipulation to turn Khalid against his father was one of the best moves she has ever made. As she told Wilcox, it kept the agency's hands clean and disrupted Khalid's family. Superb job! I'm proud of Annie like she's my own child that I've watched grow up to become a success.

Was Khalid really a bad guy? That's unclear. He went after Annie because he thought she killed Megan. Did Wilcox make it all up in order to fix his mistake from six years ago? I wouldn't mind seeing Khalid again, perhaps as one of Annie's assets.

The stage has been set for Covert Affairs Season 4. Will Annie work with Wilcox against Arthur and Joan? That folder must have held some very damning evidence for her to team up with Wilcox so quickly. I hope she's not getting herself into another situation of being misled and used. She has the smarts, it's whether she will use them or not.

Wilcox won't hesitate to take her out any more than Lena did. They both saw the talent in Annie, but also her trusting heart. I dislike Wilcox so much, that it's difficult to understand why she would work with him. As a viewer, if I'm going to buy into this coming storyline, the contents of that folder need to be revealed quickly.

The men in Annie's life were a highlight of the season. As much as I hated Annie getting into the shower with Simon, I grew to care about him just as Annie did. And, Eyal. It was a pleasure having him around so much even if he betrayed Annie. I hope he gets tired of his fishing boat and comes around next season. And, Auggie ... I'm finally in love with the idea of Annie and him hooking up!

Are you ecstatic about Annie and Auggie? Sad to see Eyal leave? Any thoughts on what was in the folder? What will you ponder about over the next seven or so months until the Season 4 premiere?

I REALLY enjoy this show and truly enjoy watching it each and every week -often multiple times. Annie has grown so much since this series began, but especially this season and it's been a joy to watch. Like most, I can't stand Wilcox and I am really hoping that whatever he had in that folder will not lead to anything that will hurt or hinder Joan or Arthur. I can't imagine Wilcox doing anything that would help either of them in any way, but when he was in prison he did tell Arthur that the whole scenario would work well for him. I guess we'll see ...

I really enjoy Covert Affairs and the growth in Annie's character. I like the way she and Auggie work together but I don't want a romantic relationship between them. I grew to like Simon but Ayal is the person I want her involved with. I don't know how that will work out but he is one sexy man and cares for Annie. I don't know what's going on with Henry but he's a devious man. I hope he doesn't cause Annie problems with Arthur and Joan but whatever he showed her she immediately agreed to help him. Great season and a cliff hanger ending.

It's not a big deal to me that Annie showed interest in Auggie. She has had a relationship w/most of the leading guys on the show. I am interested in what information was in that file that Henry Wilcox handed to her. I am so sorry that I have to wait until next summer to find out. Now, that was a true cliff hanger.

i think Annie is playing Auggie - not because she doesn't care about him but because of something in that file. I think she cares for Auggie as a friend but not in a romantic way - the chemistry has always been one-sided.

Since S1 I've been really torn. I haven't been able to decide who I want Annie to end up with. I have always adored Annie & Auggie together because they are so supportive of each other. And I have always felt a chemistry between them since the first time he taught her fighting moves in the pilot. However, I have also adored Eyal in every episode he's been in. He and Annie have a spark that I have felt since his first appearance in S1. If I had it my way, she'd be with Auggie now, but then (for reasons the writers can come up with), when it is ALL said and DONE, she ends up retired, on that boat with Eyal. I've been thinking about it, and I think I figured out why I feel this way. No offense to Piper Perabo (b/c I really think it's bad writing more than anything), but while I absolutely FEEL every emotion emanating from the two men in Annie's life (their frustration, their respect, their joy, pain, love, etc), I have trouble feeling it from her. It feels one-sided at times. It's almost like I want her to be with them because I am rooting for them (Auggie and Eyal) more than I'm rooting for Annie and one of them. I feel badly admitting this realization because I really enjoy the show and like Annie a lot. I just wish they would write her better sometimes.

Annie and Auggie are better as friends. Whatever, I`m done with this crap.

Finally! Annie and Auggie get together. The chemistry has always been great. This show has grown on me and now it's set up for a great new season. Hope they handle the Annie/Auggie relationship as well as Castle does. Writers. are you listening? Can't wait to find out what Wilcox has up his sleeve and how Annie fits in with his plans.

oh Eyal. Well, Annie and Auggie have main character power so OF COURSE they will be put together. Sigh, poor Eyal. Auggie might have planned the escape but Eyal was the one who risked his life to save her.

This show has surprised me with its emotional depth. You don't have to have a soap opera, you can have exciting, thoughtful plots revolving around the empathy (and brains) of Walker makes her the most effective CIA agent possible. I did think it was too soon for us viewers that only a few minutes after saying such an emotional good-bye to Eyal, Annie got together with Auggie. After putting off any discussion about A and A's feelings for each other for almost a whole season, and meanwhile spending a half a season watching Eyal and Annie stick up for each other in increasingly emotional ways, this union felt really forced to me.

Tanner, the tattoo was one that Simon wore for his sister, explained in the first Russia episode. I assumed that Jai used it as a code for Simon.
