Hart of Dixie Review: The Ship Is Sailing

by at . Comments

On "Blue Christmas" there was major heartbreak - but also major love!

From Crazy Earl turning not-so-crazy Earl... to Ruby breaking up with Lavon, this Hart of Dixie Season 2 episode was definitely one of my favorites to date.

Zoe's Christmas

Let's start here: Wade and Zoe FINALLY got together!

Zoe's speech to Wade at the end was ADORABLE and you have to admit that it was even if you ship George and Zoe. I really enjoyed how she maned womaned up and came to her senses. Wade HAS evolved and is definitely worthy. Now that they're on the same page, it's working out great. The tension they've played up to the past few episodes paid off here. Big time.

Since I missed last week and didn't get to review "Sparks Fly," I will take this part to talk about how I DO love Tansy and George. Except every time I see Tansy I think of the actress and her role in Magic Mike. Anyone else? No? Just me. Okay. Anyway, George looks happy with Tansy and he's changing too. He is going outside of his "good guy" box, which is something that needed to happen.

I was so proud of Lemon tonight, putting aside her personal feelings to help Lavon keep the current love of his life in Bluebell. I am astounded at how much Lemon has grown in these 10 episodes of Hart of Dixie. This is how character growth should be done. Ruby just needs to learn to keep her mouth shut and bad things won't happen. (I still love you, Ruby)

That said, I adored the immaturity between the both of them tonight. I was laughing so hard at their scene at the cookie contest. They hate each other so much and are not afraid to show it, it's perfect. I really will miss these scenes between Ruby and Lemon. I will also miss Ruby. I don't believe we've seen the last of her, but I do believe we won't see her for awhile. I was actually surprised when it was revealed that Lavon was going to be proposing, but I am glad it didn't work out. I'm sorry, Lavon, except that I'm not: you and Lemon are meant to be.

Elsewhere, Brick has a new and much younger lady friend! What a HYSTERICAL add the end, I was not expecting Brick to come up from the covers. Last week, Brick was dreading going on a date with her because of her cell phone obsession and look how that turned out! I love it. Get yours, Brick, it makes me love you more.

Back to Zoe and Wade. After watching last week's episode and this one, I have to say that Wade is becoming a very likable and lovable character. In the beginning and at times he can be a real ass and very immature. Now it's the opposite. He has become this sensitive and down-to-earth guy ever since Zoe and that is what love is folks. Love changes you and "evolves" you. That is exactly what happened to them both. Crazy Earl said it best. Those two are in love.

Move over George and Zoe, endgamers, Wade and Zoe is where it's at. I'm on this ship and I will sail with it until the end!

Overall this episode was definitely top three if not my all-time favorite. Unfortunately, we have quite the break before Hart of Dixie returns. Hopefully when that takes place, we will see more of Rose and Annabeth, my two underused favorites.

“I know a lot of people concentrate on how Wade treated Zoe. Yet she set the tone for their relationship the moment she met him. Sure she was annoyed about the power going out, but she was rude. She judged him immediately and treated him as such. I don't think Wade or Zoe are either more or less innocent or guilty in how they treat each other. I think there is truly a back and forth between both of them. They each give as good as they get. That is their dynamic. Now sure there are times when it crossed the line (Wade in 1x13 &1x18, Zoe in 1x20 & 2x05 & 2x09), I don't think they truly are setting out to hurt the other. Those instances arose out of either Wade's insecurities about himself or Zoe's just general cluelessness and self-absorption. I expect both characters (and the rest on the show) to grow and evolve and overcome these more negative traits of theirs. Agreed!

She is nothing like a doctor. The stupidest character to play a doctor. What the heck!!

I love that Wade is growing up. I just wish Zoey would do the same. Yes she took a baby step in this eps... hope she continue. The characters shouldn't be perfected BUT...Zoey 99% of the time is ANNOYING. Iam so missing Shelly

how he approaches Zoe as he is growing up. Zoe stalled a bit this season, but she is starting to show some growth now that she has started to accept some things.

@wow That is a very good point. I know a lot of people concentrate on how Wade treated Zoe. Those instances arose out of either Wade's insecurities about himself or Zoe's just general cluelessness and self absorption. I expect both characters (and the rest on the show) to grow and evolve and overcome these more negative traits of theirs. I do believe that Wade has turned a corner for the better in regards to how he approaches Zoe as he is growing up. Zoe stalled a bit this season, but she is starting to show some growth now that she has started to accept some things.

I love it how Rachel critized Wade but made no comment about how selfish/immature Zoey has acted since day one.

I agree...the direction is MUCH better but the storylines are flat. Key players are missing i.e. SHELLY/ABBY. To some Wade will always be nothing because he not George. I think last season was much more funnier.

As for the characters, Wade and Lemon are the most deeply developed characters on the show for me with the most layers. I completely disagree that Wade was only shown as an immature womanizing ass last season. He was shown to be caring and loyal with a really good heart. Sure he didn't always go about things the right way, but that is part of his character developement. I think it would be completely wrong to continue to only see him in one light when characters are expected to grow through the course of a show and Wade is clearly doing that. Would it be fair to only see Lemon as the shrill southern belle that we met for most of the first part of last season? Absolutely not. Both Lemon and Wade have shown there are other sides to their characters. And for the most part there are reasons as to why they sometimes act in a negative light. It makes them the more interesting characters to me. Without both of these characters and I doubt I'd still be watching the show.

I'm actually enjoying this season a lot more than last season. For me it seems like the writers actually have a focus and a direction. Last season, especially the 2nd half, seemed like it was all over the place. Zoe has definitely come across as unlikable a few times this season, but my biggest issue was 2x05. The other times she just came across as clueless. She hasn't gone so far over the line for me that she can't come back. For me the only real annoyance this season is the insistence on triangle without the proper build up of one side of it. And then every 3-4 episodes we get thrown GZ stuff and it messes with the flow of the story. Although after 210 if you look back at the whole picture it begins to make sense to events that lead up to 208, 209, & 210.

Hart of Dixie Season 2 Episode 10 Quotes

Tansy is short for Lemon. Crazy, southern ways.

Zoe

Zoe: Wade did not break with up with. I am so much happier without him because now I can focus on more important things. Like trying to figure out how to redirect air traffic with my mind.
Lavon: Your mom is almost here?
