Revenge Review: Two May Keep a Secret If One Of Them Is Dead

by at . Comments

Has there been an episode of Revenge so far where giant secrets aren't revealed to the sounds of heavy violin music? Tonight was certainly no exception to this formula.

"Collusion" put Emily and Aiden's missions - and therefore Emily and Aiden - at odds, while revealing key information regarding the Initiative.

Aiden Listens In

Stonehaven's role was made clear tonight, as was that of Carrion. Stonehaven is a disaster relief firm. Carrion is a program that creates disasters. Both are necessary for whatever it is The Initiative has planned.

Yes, the plot has thickened. Again. But in true Revenge fashion, let's rewind about an hour to the beginning of "Collusion."

Daniel, ever eager, asks Emily to lunch. For oysters. Which are an aphrodisiac. Way to take it slow, Daniel. The oysters are in L.A. so instead of flying in the oysters, he takes Emily to them. But lunch isn't the only reason for the trip. Because he is nowhere near the businessman his father is, and no matter how ruthless and cutthroat Conrad may be, he's still a businessman: Daniel needs Emily's help to land Stonehaven. He believes her to be a lucky talisman, knowing nothing about her involvement in each of the three deals he's brought to Grayson Global.

Victoria, in an attempt to save Daniel from the Initiative's grasp, also flies to L.A. to offer herself to Jason Prosser. In exchange, she asks that Prosser outbid Daniel in the Stonehaven transaction. He agrees, but Emily and Nolan and their super computer look-up mojo thwarts her.

Aiden, after seeing a video of whom he is told is his sister, is tasked with killing Victoria Grayson. The Initiative sees her attempts to prevent Daniel from being successful as a threat which needs to be neutralize. But Victoria's a cat with at least 7 lives left. Emily prevents him from carrying out his mission, providing him with an alternative plan. An alternative plan which backfires, potentially costing her their relationship and gaining him as her enemy.

Thus, the major players in tonight's key events end up in the same locale. Instead of, you know, the Hamptons where all but Stonehaven were to begin with.

Unlike Leigh in her review after "Sabotage," I don't like Daniel and Emily together anymore. There was something charming about them in Revenge season 1. There was something more charming about him. But he's different now. Something about him changed once he ascended to the Grayson throne. Relationships have to be built on trust and Emily will never trust Daniel simply because he's a Grayson.

Even though she developed feelings for him and some of them still linger, she'll never be able to be herself - her true self - with him. So he'll never really know her. They were doomed from the start.

Emily and Aiden, however, have promise. Or they did. Maybe they still do. Theirs is a relationship built on both a shared purpose - revenge - and also honesty. When these two work together, they work well. They know each other. I'm hopeful that the girl in the video turns out not to be Aiden's sister or that she's not dead and Emily is able to find a way to help him find her. Emily is okay with collateral damage, but Colleen is definitely more than that. If Emily would abandon her own mission for anyone else's, it would be for Aiden's. Colleen, after all, brought the two of them together.

Takeda knew about Colleen before he took Aiden on as a student, so Colleen is important to the story. There's something bigger going on than just that she's Aiden's sister who was taken by the Russians for sex trafficking. I'm interested to see how she fits into the Initiative's plan and whether it has anything to do with Padma. Does Padma also have a sister or other relative who has been taken in a similar manner?

I want to believe that Padma isn't evil and that she's just an Initiative pawn without the resources that Emily, Aiden, and Nolan have. It wouldn't shock me if she were some sort of evil genius, but I get the feeling there's more than that going on with her, that she's a victim somehow, which I suppose bodes well for Nolan's love life should she survive the season.

Other notable events from tonight:

  • Charlotte turned 18. Her first adult act is to change her last name from Grayson to Clarke. (This little nugget can be found on the Revenge quotes page.)
  • Conrad got Jack's drug charges dropped.
  • Jack got Matt Duncan to confess to murdering Joe Ryan.
  • Conrad swooped in and threw some money at the Ryan brothers problem to make it go away because that's what Conrad does.
  • Conrad made a deal with one of the Ryan brothers to help them get the Stowaway behind Jack's back because that's also what Conrad does.

What did you think of "Collusion"? Is this the end for Aiden and Emily? Do you think that was really Aiden's sister on the video?

When Emily is with Daniel she not being herself - she is pretending to be this amazing Emily Thorne, a philanthropist and kind person Daniel fell in love with. But we all know she is not Emily Thorne - she is Amanda Clarke at heart and her life story made her who she is today. I used to like Daniel and Emily together in s1 because I felt like there was still a slight chance that Emily might come to the conclusion that revenge will not give her true happiness given how much the son of her arch enemy loves her. Daniel was very different from what he is now in s2. He is becoming a true Grayson - greedy and ambitious for power. And that is why I don't like him with her anymore, because if in s1 he wanted to be different from his family now he is exactly like them. I can't wait to see how this pans out - I think the writers did a great job once again with bringing in these two different revenge agendas into the story because its is interesting to see how far Emily will go this time and I completely understand how Aiden felt - I mean even if that was not Colleen, how would have you reacted if you lived on hope of finding your sister and now shown that she is dead? Oh and I think Jack and Amanda will die on that boat because now that Conrad is making a deal with the Ryan brothers - these two are pretty much doomed. Plus if they die and Emily is left to care for Carl, given that she is the godmother, I think that will fuel her anger towards the Graysons even more and Revenge will get back to being comletely awesome once more!

I think a lot of people are missing one important point when it comes to Aiden and Emily, which Emily even admitted to last episode - when they met on the beach it was because she needed an honest moment. Hence their relationship is very real, even though it is fueled by revenge agendas. Look, I know its not the typical girl meets boy, they fall in love and live happily ever after kind of fairy tale most of us would like to have but unfortunately sometimes bad circumstances bring people together and the fall for each other like war and death - in this case these two characters have lost their dearest due to the actions of people who walk over bodies to get what they want. Thats a fact and you can't run away from it. When Emily is with Daniel she not being herself - she is pretending to be this amazing Emily Thorne, a philanthropist and kind person Daniel fell in love with. But we all know she is not Emily Thorne - she is Amanda Clarke at heart and her life story made her who she is today. I can't stand aiden. I'm not excited that he was bumped to series regular next year. I hate his scenes and think he brings nothing to the table. He just takes away from Emily's story lines. I enjoyed her so much more with Daniel. I would love to see their relationship get back to where it was in season one. I wish Ashley would just go away… her presence is pointless and she's a terrible actress. And I know he's been on most every episode, but I still feel like we're seriously lacking in the Nolan scenes! Him and Ems need more scenes together. They're the heart of the show.

What did you think of "Collusion"? Is this the end for Aiden and Emily? Do you think that was really Aiden's sister on the video? As usual, Emily saved the day. I hate to think that this is the end for Aiden and Emily. I love the actor who is Aiden. Yes, I do think that this is Aiden's sister, but when was this video made?

Aiden has added so much to the story-line and has been wonderful to watch his story-line unfold. Barry Sloane is a very talented actor, super handsome and love the accent! I am anguishing over the fact that the one who gives the ultimate sacrifice for Emily is someone she loves. Emily actually only seems to really truly love Aiden, and Nolan-(like a brother). So I am very scared for Aiden. He would have done anything for Emily, up until he saw the video of his sister possibly dying because of Emily's decision NOT to kill Victoria. Emily got him in that situation with The Initiative, and his sister actually may be paying the price for it! I enjoyed episodes 1-9 this season, but after that the episodes became chaotic and disjointed. I'm hoping after the break they get back on the track they originally were on the beginning of this season.

I never liked Emily and Daniel together because it was obvious that Daniel was just a means to an end for her. There is serious chemistry between Aidan and Emily, though I think she still harbors some love for Jack. Fauxmanda marrying him in the end really hurts her, I think. but I wish that she had allowed Aiden to shoot Victoria in the head, there is nothing good about that snake of a woman! Meanwhile, I was glad to see that Nolan the wonderful finally figured out that Padma is just using him and is an evil minion of the Initiative. Poor Nolan, surrounded by users and revengers. I hope that he gets some happiness and someone to love eventually. He's a great guy and marvelous character. I hope someone kills the Ryan brothers and that Jack and Declan get the bar back.

@Miranda I get where you're coming from but I've noticed in Revenge, family trumps all (most of the time). Emily is loyal to no one when it comes to her Dad, same goes for Aiden as was evidenced by his abandonment of Emily over his sister; Even though she forgave him he is threatening to abandon her a second time and to my utter surprise she is begging him. If she can trust Aiden again after her broken heart I think she can give Daniel a chance since he has seen the error of the Grayson way and is trying to do right and succeed in business while at it. The major problem is if she and Daniel truly get back together, what happens when she is done with her revenge against Victoria, Conrad & the Initiative? Charlotte and Daniel may never forgive her.

I only hope Ashley can get out of this and get on a serious series. She's utterly wasted in this cartoon soap opera.

I thought I'd just read the reviews instead of watching the show to save myself from wasting time, but the reviews are just a concentrated version of the nonsense that Revenge has descended to. So sad when I have to say farewell to a show that I used to love.
Same thing happened with Buffy, and Alias, and Sopranos, and Mad Men...
Sad to see the shit hit the fan in only season two though. They really should have ended the series with Jack dead on the beach. By season three I'm sure they'll be saying that the father is still alive, working for the initiative in order to keep Emily safe or some shit. So sad... but the time has come for me to say "no more".

Padma is definitely another pawn being used by the initiative. They have something on her and that's why she is helping them. I'm not sure what it is, but you could tell she was afraid of not getting what they wanted in time.
