Castle Review: Stabbed In The Back

at . Comments

Now, that was fun! Castle aired "Reality Star Struck" this week, an episode centered around the murder of a “reality” star and some Valentine’s Day competition between Castle and Beckett. It was the kind of episode long-time Castle fans love.

The Murder. The hour was spent looking for the killer of a young reality star from “The Wives of Wall Street.” One word can describe this spoof. Hilarious. One of the best parts about this installment was the fact that it brought Gail O’Grady back to our screen. I’ve missed her since Hellcats got canceled.

The case itself was pretty predictable, but it included the ingredients to a perfect Castle episode and it did it well.

Partners Fighting Crime

The First Valentine’s Day. Amidst the murder, the detectives were still celebrating Valentine’s Day, and for two couples that meant their first February 14 together.

Castle and Beckett competed over who would give the better gift. The presents were not even the best part. Castle accidentally slipping Beckett’s gorgeous earrings into Gates’ jacket was the icing on the cake for the hour. Trying to get them back, facing Gates when she found them... everything about it was pretty much awesome.

Who knew that Kate Beckett had such a romantic side? She pulled the sweet move by offering up a drawer at her apartment for her man. These two have made some serious strides in their relationship and it is still just as much fun to watch as the will-they/won’t-they games from last year.

These two weren’t the only ones celebrating the holiday. Lanie and Espo went out for their first V-day. It’s no secret that I am a big fan of anything Espo related. Having these two get back together is just what us Espo-fans want.

Side NotesL

  • How hot did Lanie look in that red dress? Smokin’!
  • Of course Gates was a reality TV fan.
  • Even better, Gates and Castle sharing the love of “The Wives of Wall Street.” Pretty awesome.

Overall, another fun episode from our favorite detectives. There were actual laugh out loud moments, as well as the sweet ones. Once again, Nathan Fillion killed it with his facial expressions throughout the hour. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: is there another actor that can portray so much from just his face?!?

So how can we move forward after such a great episode? The annual two-parter! It’s that time of year again. Castle will be airing their annual high stakes, high tension episodes over the next two weeks.

So until then, Castle fans. Hit up the comments, sound off on the Castle Round Table later in the week and patiently wait with me for the next episode.

HOLY CRAP - WHAT IS UP with all the people on the Castle forum getting all caviling these days? @Katarzyna - I KNOW it's Castle, I watch it and enjoy it every week, I don't need a reminder of the title. I as much said that I didn't expect any Firefly references or re-enactments. All I said was that the two former co-stars could have had SOME dialogue or interaction, and frankly, that's NOT an unreasonable expectation when you bring together two leads from a popular show, especially when it's advertised as such. GEEZ - can we get off each other's backs and allow opinions to be expressed?

You know, I must be the only one thinking that this episode could have been so much better. Yes the episode was funny but not as funny as maybe Final Frontier - IMO. And, am I the only shipper fan out there that thought that there really wasn't much romantic screen time between Castle and Beckett - especially considering this was their first Valentine's Day together as a couple and it's something we have been dying to see for the last 5 seasons. Yes, I agree the drawer gesture was a nice step but let's be realistic. What could he possible keep in it? Maybe only his keys and wallet, if you ask me! Come on writers, as least make it more realistic - it should at least be big enough for him to have a few days' worth of clothes! I did love his facial expression when he realized the step she was making. However, yet again the lighting when they kissed was absolutely horrible. I don't ever miss an episode because I love the show - but to me they missed the mark on this one totally.

Like I said before, the fun factor is back this year !
I was a little disappointed that the Firefly duo has not a lot of dialogues together...

@Joyeful and T.Sax: Castle is CASTLE. It's not Firefly BIS. Enough said. Personally I would love the writers (Nikki Heat books included) to stop all Firefly references. We really don't need them.

I love this episode. It was hilarious and sweet. And the case was actually good! I didn't guess the killer at all.

Castle putting Kate's gift into Gates pocket was hilarious, as was her put-on response to Castle. I realy do suspect that Gates knows about Kate and Rick, and was putting on a show for Rick. As soon as she made a point of sending Rick and Kate both home to watch reality TV, I thought Gates knows, but is playing along to keep the secret from leaving the unit. Gates is not as clueless as Kate and Rick think.

I enjoyed this episode. The case was alright, but the shenanigans outside of the case reminded me of why I love this show. Castle teasing Espo, Ryan's "cock-a-doodle-do", Castle struggling with his wrist buttons, Castle losing the earrings and trying to get them back - priceless. I can't believe Gates ACTUALLY thought Castle had a thing for her (for a former internal affairs detective turned captain, she's pretty clueless). And Lanie and Espo back together!! WHOO!! My nitpicks: - Rick and Kate in the final scene. It was sweet and romantic, and I love that. But they could have a little more passion and spark. - Gina Torres in an episode and doesn't have ANY dialogue with Nathan Fillion? Uh...what?! I mean, I wasn't expecting them to recreate Firefly scenes, but at least let them interact!!

How many ways can I say I loved this episode? It was great seeing Gina Torres in the ep. I may be in the minority, but I'm glad we weren't hit with "Firefly" anvils over and over again. I get it. I loved "Firefly". I loved "Serenity". I can sit and recite the words of all the episodes and movie. But "Firefly" was "Firefly", and this is "Castle". So, in this situation, less was definitely more in my opinion. This episode had so many LOL moments. Castle and Gates 'fangirling' over "The Wives of Wall Street", Castle trying to get the earrings back, poor Ryan being the only rooster in the hen house of one, and Espo's nervousness of going out on Valentine's Day with Lanie were all excellent. But the major highlight had to be Beckett performing her own "WIves of Wall Street" interrogation, complete with the table flip. OMG, I laughed so hard I had to rewatch that scene again. As for Castle and Beckett, the strives they've made in their relationship are remarkable. Kate has gone from someone who admittedly always 'kept one foot out the door' when it comes to men to actually giving a piece of her home to Castle. She has let him completely breach those walls she built around her heart to protect herself. I thought Stana Katic played it perfectly. Kate was so sure of her gift, but then the nerviousness/tension crept in slightly at him not responding at first, to her face lighting up when he said "It's perfect." "Take off your clothes. Put them in YOUR drawer. And meet me in bed." What better ending could any Castle fan ask for? LOL

I actually liked this episode... It was good and a little bit cleverly conceptualised unlike last years Kim Capucci show. That was just dumb ass dumb.
I liked that Castle and Beckett made big strides in their relationship. And giving him that Draw! Amazing! But I prefer his apartment to hers so I hope he reciprocates with a cupboard as well! Can't wait for next weeks eps! Seriously going to be epic.

Please tell me you didn't get me a lightsaber for our first Valentine's Day together.

So it's a reality show...without the reality.
