Cath bows down to Steve's every whim, how does that make her a strong character. She was fine before her character changed so much this season because she's not allowed to be a threat to the McDanno. McDanno fans judge each episode on the McDanno quota and can't stand anyone coming between them, thus all the objections to Cath being on the show. She's accused of having no purpose - but what purpose has Danny, except to whine and be one half of the bromance. Lori was hated, Joe was hated and also Doris. In fact anyone who takes time away from Steve/Danny is not welcomed onto the show.
From the huge decline in ratings the bromance is not what attracts many of the audience to the show but as usual anyone who complains about it gets the usual response to stop watching. I think enough have already done that and probably more will leave once Revolution comes back.

It's a TV show, the only one I watch. It entertains me, if it didn't I would stop watching. It's not one size fits all and I don't think any show is, I maybe wrong. Are some of the story lines over the to? Yes. Are there some characters I don't like? Yes. Does it entertain me in spite of that? Yes.
What is most amazing to me is people who have absolutly nothing good to say about the show are, apparently, still watching.

If two guys are partners, working together every day, having each other's backs and sharing lots of time in a car (read: lots of occasions to talk), then "bromance" is not the word. It's friendship - and the kind that enjoys verbal bouts within the framework of respect and deep loyalty. That's what Steve and Danny have - and there's never a question of who's boss. It's Steve and Danny knows it.
As for Catherine and Steve - these are two grown-ups; each with successful careers and they don't need to fawn over each other nor engage in Love Story gooey sentimentality. Catherine is no push over and Steve is not the "I love you to death" simpering fool.
Just enjoy the show - and hope all the loose strings we have been presented with have some resolution come season's finale, 'cause I still have questions from the first season!

Jodee you could have not said it better regardign ur insight as to how Catherine is being played this season. I agree with you 100%

  5. Jodee

Giving her field access would have accomplished the purpose but nope they have to give her these super powers/connections. Seriously, Steve is a member of the Governor's task force, is a decorated Navy SEAL and grew up in Hawaii, his Dad was a cop, but he doesn't have any pull? Really lame the way they write Cath - sex, favors and Mary Sue. We're 3/4 through the season and still no purpose in her being a regular. Her character works much better as recurring. Of course, I also don't watch the show for romance. I prefer the team, action, humor and bromance which is what the show started out as and still does best.

Sorry, never know where the cut off is so posts are in reverse order.

  6. Jodee

The case itself was entertaining enough, convoluted for sure. Great use of Larry Manetti. Kid DeMarco was fiesty and nice little tie in to New Jersey for Danny. Pat Monahan did a credible turn as the baddie of the week.

Aww, Danny made the sacrifice for Steve and then Steve did the same for Danny tossing the long ball. Nice catch by Danno and celebration after. Those two were like excited kids at Christmas. A joy to watch. Can never have too much bromance or Steve/Danny scenes. They make the show.

Cath was once again over the top. Lenkov can never have her as just a normal person. Nope she has to be not only on the field but in the middle of the team bench during the game. Then he had to go a step farther and have her keep the stadium open so Steve and Danny could play catch plus have her give Danny the autographed ball (nice gesture) plus have her be friends with Peyton Manning after a post game chat. Sorry, but that once again makes her a Mary Sue. Giving her field

Agree with the review. 317 was a fun, entertaining episode full of McDanno goodness! Steve/Danny scenes (however you want to interpret them) were a great throwback to season 1, showing how that relationship defines and carries the show. Alex and Scott are the anchors and along with Daniel and Grace make a fantastic cast and show. Loved the conversation about fantasy football, perfect analogy too with the Dungeons and Dragons for sports geeks. Fantasy football is serious business! Fun scene with Kono and the security guard too. Danny handing off the phone to Kono, humorous but also good continuity going back to season 1 with the sexting. Danny and technology don't get along.

  8. Fita

Ohh how do I miss season 1, the best ever!!!!

  9. Tara

Thanks kelly I love the way u review the episode and Im with you all the way.

Lenkov needs to stop listening to his adoring fans on twitter who demand the McDanno show and take more heed of the ratings. If the bromance was so loved then why are the ratings so bad and why do the bromance centric episodes do so badly. The bickering childish antics of two grown men don't seem as endearing to mainstream audience as some would like to believe. Romance or bromance doesn't bother me if done well, but neither is and all it's doing is making fools of the characters. Scott Caan's whiney attitide towards the show seems to seep into his performance. The show should be much more successful than it is, but each week the writers seem to highlight the most annoying characteristics of the characters. A new writing team is needed and a better balance between the cast and solutions/endings to many of the meandering storylines. If they don't make some changes soon fans will be tuning into Revolution instead.

Couldn't disagree more with DeAnn regarding Kono, she makes the show for me, but then I'm a guy. Loved the scene between her and the hotel security guy, quite funny. Danny handing his phone to Kono when he couldn't get it to work was priceless as well. In fact some of the series best moments involve those two (like when he tried to entice a perp with a "sexy" e-mail only to have to have Kono bail him out and when they had to interview the fortune teller played by Bai Ling, among others) and he doesn't normally resort to whining with her.
As for Michelle Catherine, she's fine and I suspect her character knows what she's getting in Steve and so accepts his quirks. I too would like to see a Kono/Cath pairing.
    Overall not a bad episode.

@Hawaiinow...i mentioned Pat Monahan in my initial comment, and i thought i saw one or two others, so read again!

I believe the writers this season are not learning from past mistakes, they try to fix things but aint working. I agree with Jason says about
"I'd much prefer to see some decent detective work and Danny actually act like a cop for change and grow up. The writers need to stop with the inuenodes about Steve/Danny and who would want to be with a nagging wife!!. Cath is a great character but she's made to act the fool each week for the so called bromance and she is very underused".

I know each person has a different view on the characters, plotlines, etc but the writers are not getting it right for certain characters, like Catherine, she acts like a fool around Steve, always try to please him and Steve treats her bad. She pops up in episodes where she does not need to be like just to fill a gap and let the viewers see that they are a couple but I think the writers are just filling the fans wishes because many fans wanted to see the softer side of Steve and have a relationship outside

My apologize to Springsteen and Train Fans, we all have different tastes in music and everything else. They are just a generation or 2 removed from me. I thought both charterers were awesome on 50.

Next episode 3,18 will air March 18 so we are on a break for 4 weeks Bummer!!

As for Catherine I love her and Steve together and the moment I am not so happy how Steve treats Catherine wonder where the guy is who picked a flower for her and planned a romantic picnic at sunset on the beach but I keep hoping all will turns out fine at the end for these two.

I am also a fan of the bromance so why can't we have both Bromance and Romance on this show.

  16. jschoi

Springsteen Train could care less, Wonder Girls bring it on.
I understand that they are trying not to repeat the mistakes of last season with Catherine, I like Michelle, but I think she is under used. Repeating myself, give me more Kono/Michelle.
@Ragdoll31....Have you seen The Cleaner with Benjamin Pratt and Grace Park. They have an ep called Ragdoll in season 1, It's the SoCal surf scene, you might like it.

@hawaiinow - Someone DID mention Max Weinberg being Springsteen's drummer cause I then re-watched the episode and was like "oh yeah, that is him". Been to a couple Springsteen concerts "back in the day" but didn't pick up on that right away like you did.
And as for "the Train guy" the reviewer mentions him above and again I was like "oh yeah". I love their top 10 song, my kids LOVE them, love them but I could get hit by the Train and not recognize any of them ;o) He did make a GREAT villan though.
I like how H50 sneaks in these interesting characters & will be looking more carefully now.

As Zia had mentioned in a prior comment, DDK is producing a theater play in Hawaii, thats why we have not seen him much lately. Its suppose to run through March 2, so I'm sure we will see him in the remaining episodes when the season comes to an end.

Tried of explaining Catherine and Steve's relationship. Love Catherine and how she is being played. Not everyone is a bromance fan, but I am. I don't want it all the time, but it brings a lot to the show. I hope we get answers to Doris by the end of the season. I don't want to end the character, but I do not want the reasons to be dragged on for a long time without answers.

@Mrs. Cleaver, yes it does seem people are a little cranky this week. Maybe even the constant complainers are upset that it will be 3 weeks until a new episode, and then probably more repeats before the end of the season.

  19. Jason

So much nonsence about who Steve should be with. I've no objections to good friendships on the show but I don't see any between Steve and Danny and god knows what kind of relationship Steve/Cath are meant to have. Not a good one and Steve is a jerk around her. The writers need to try and actually develop their characters and less of the stupid scenes between Steve and Danny. I couldn't care less who is the better life partner for Steve. I'd much prefer to see some decent detective work and Danny actually act like a cop for change and grow up. The writers need to stop with the inuenodes about Steve/Danny and who would want to be with a nagging wife!!. Cath is a great character but she's made to act the fool each week for the so called bromance. Its all become annoying and boring. The leads have become the least appealing characters for me and I'd much rather see more of the rest of the wonderful cast.

  20. Nadriss

It wasn't the best episode, but it was enjoyable. Maybe it's me but It seems that Chin has less of screentime it's too bad. Catherine is really sweet with Steve, sincerely he doesn't really deserve Catherine. Honestly, I'm not a fan of McRollin, but I really love Catherine. I really adored the tiny scene between Kono and Catherine. I hope to see them more together for example working on a case. I really adored Larry Manetti and I was reminded how much I loved him in Magnum. It would be great a episode with Tom Selleck

How cool was that!!!! And this is football!!!! It was great having all the guys at the game, although I missed cutie, Fong ;) And since I am gushing, I did love the ending with the autographed football, Cat's description of Manning and Danno catching that she was on 1st name basis with him. Danno catching a throw from Steve on the actual field was pretty hot too! Overall, another favorite episode to re-watch : )

  22. Allie

Another enjoyable episode with multiple great moments. I thought the writers did a good job making the crime du jour interesting without over powering the Pro Bowl extravaganza :) There's always room in a 5-0 season for a fluffy, light Ohana-centric story.
Great banter and team moments. Danno trying to get the data from his phone onto the smart table and then giving it up to Kono..hehe. Appreciated Steve not dumping Danno when Cat unexpectedly showed up with tickets. Yes, tickets on the 50 yard line is nothing to sneeze at but I appreciated Steve having the coutesy to not ditch Danno for Cat. I would have been upset if he did. And I had the impression that Cat was not really upset, she didn't push the issue and was quite certain she could get someone to join her. Her parting comment about Kamekona joining the man-date was cute! And best of all, Cat ended up with awesome sideline tickets and wait up...there's my girl, Kono joining her :) :) :) How cool was that!!!! And this

    @ ALISA

NOT EVERYONE IS A McDANNO fan ....DEAL WITH IT!

Wonder how you would feel if were Catherine that if your boyfriend would rather go to a game with his friend than with you. Steve knows Cath now longer then 3 years so I expect he knows she is a football fan the least he could do was inform her before he and Danny decided to go together to the game. Steve is a lousy boyfriend.

I read ALL the comments here, and am amazed, just like a few weeks ago, that NOBODY mentions cameos by two famous musicians! Is everyone locked in their little tv rooms focused solely on the leads' bromance and that damn Katherine ?? My goodness, expand your horizons! A few weeks ago in "Hookman", the gun store owner was played by Springsteens E Street drummer (and band leader for Conan) Max Weinberg. This aint some b-list musician from the 1950's...this guy has been the Boss's drummer for a long time and travels the world often with him on tour. After seeing his name in the credits at the start of the show, I waited with anticipation to see what his role was. And he acted great ! Last nite (football episode) was the group "Train"'s lead singer Pat Monahan, who turned out the be the (eventual) bad guy. Again, great acting for someone whose main profession isn't ! I will add that while Train does not have the exposure of say Maroon 5, they DO have recent current Top Ten hits, and are b

I enjoyed this episode which had a lot of lighter moments and some truly great stuff with Steve and Danno's bromance, which is just precious. Honestly, I love watching the two of them banter and argue like an old married couple, it is hilarious, and I love that they care about each other as people. There is nothing wrong with two heterosexual men being friends, and they add to each other's strengths and help with the other's weaknesses.
That said, I also would like more episodes that highlight the scrumptous Daniel Dae Kim (all of the men on this show are just drool-worthy, though) and I also want to know more about Steve's mom. Kono isn't really much of an exciting character, in my opinion, but I think Catherine shows real promise, and she's good with Steve.
