Castle Review: Here's to 100 More!

at . Comments

What a celebration!

"The Lives of Others” marked two events: Castle’s birthday and, even more importantly, the 100th episode of our favorite Monday night series. Let’s waste no more time and let's talk Castle, shall we?

A Bored Castle

Rear Window Castle is stuck in his apartment after messing up his knee skiing with Beckett. Strapped with boredom, he resorts to using binoculars and peeking in on his neighbors. After swearing that he witnessed a murder in the apartment across the alley, Castle goes on to drive everyone crazy. Alexis, Beckett, Ryan and Espo are all dragged into Castle’s antics.

Little did we know that Beckett had planned the most elaborate and best birthday ever for her man. Seriously, that was pretty much amazing. With the help of Martha and her acting students, Alexis and the binoculars, Ryan and Espo checking in on the case, even Gates working her way in...everything was perfect. Richard Castle is one lucky man.

An Affair To Kill On the real murder case the gang was working, an IRS agent is found dead after being reviewed on security footage. A wife was killed by her husband but he had it staged to cover up the affair he was having. Thanks to Castle’s vivid imagination, he even helped solve the case from his wheelchair.

Side Notes

  • How gorgeous did Kate look in that black dress? Seriously, stunning.
  • Castle wanting to be Charlie and the boys be his angels was hilarious. Especially after Ryan and Espo struck a pose. Priceless.
  • Welcome back, Alexis! It’s good to see you normal and functioning after your kidnapping adventure.
  • Where was Lanie at this fabulous party?

Deep into Season 5, Castle is still super entertaining and just as much fun, if not more, than it was in the beginning. This is not an easy task. Over the past one hundred episodes, we have witnessed shakeups in the office, relationships and breakups, death, kidnappings and the central couple coming together.

Most would think that this would be a recipe for disaster. But it hasn’t been at all. Bringing Castle and Beckett together has brought the series in a new direction. Although there have been ups and downs throughout the seasons, the series has hit a high mark, just in time to celebrate it’s 100th episode.

So now that we have hit the impressive 100 episode milestone, what do you think? Was “The Lives of Others” everything you expected for such a landmark hour? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

Also, take a look back at previous episodes and watch the build up to where we are now. Check out some pretty awesome Castle quotes from the hour and don’t forget to check back in a couple days for the weekly Castle Round Table. Until April 15, TV Fanatics...

Epic ending !!!! "Here's to 100 more"

what a great episode one of the best

Lanie was at the party. Loved that Castle had tears in his eyes when he thought the surprise was so great. Way to go Beckett for taking some of Castle's fun ideas to heart. She would have never done that in past seasons as she was too serious back then.

A ? - How would the 'actors' know when Castle was picking up the binoc's to begin the charade? I liked the ep, but Kate is becoming a 'Mary Jane' type character - a perfect girlfriend with no flaws at all & Castle a spoiled, arrogant, child. I love the show, but it needs at least a little bit of dramatic substance from Caskett.

Where was this???? -Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda being in the episode a la Hitchcock. In the party at the end??? ( Hitch was pretty easy to spot )..

Second best episode ever - obviously the first being when Rick & Kate FINALLY kissed & had sex at the end of last season. Did Stana not look gorgeous with that black dress & swept back hair? Just stunning & I am sure Kate's surprise plan came straight from Rick being a novelist. The intrigue, suspense, etc. What a fabulous surprise that they actually kissed not once but twice during the "surprise Castle" scene? I have a question though - what's up with Martha calling Kate - Katherine? First it was Beckett, then for a while Kate, now it's Katherine? LOVE Susan Sullivan though - so full of "soap theatrics" - makes me really laugh. What a great show!! Thansk to the writers, cast & crew!!! And just like Rick & Kate toasted to the first 100 - here's to the next 100! I agree ...

LOVED IT!!!!!! This was by far the best episode of Castle! It has gotten better with each episode, making me crave for more! I definitely did not see the surprise birthday party coming! Totally caught me by surprise!! It was SPECTACULAR! :) I just can't get enough of this show! All of the actors were so spot on and perfect. Love, love, love it! Here's to 100 more!!

Rear Window is probably one of my favorite Hitchcock films. The guys doing the Angel's pose was awesome! It was nice seeing Martha and Alexis again, we don't see those two enough. Lanie was at party. Beckett looked very Grace Kelley in her black dress. I agree with Castle.. "Here's to 100 more"

The ending of this episode completely saved it for me, before that I was annoyed. It seemed they were trying to have fun with Castle's obsession, but it wasn't playing well for me. It seemed way out of character for him to be so obsessed with something. This alone was a dead giveaway that something was up; likewise that Kate was willing to go so far as to break into the storage locker. The fact that the whole thing was a setup was awesome and I believe was totally the kind of thing Castle would love. I loved the setup for the 100th episode joke - well done.

Absolutely fabulous. What a great twist and so much fun while still keeping "on the job" for our crew. I'm watching it again today, I know there were bits I missed, but this show is one of the main reasons I still enjoy TV. Never has a romantic relationship between the two protagonists been done so well. Just enough heat to be interesting, but still the snarky remarks and solid working relationship. Well done... very well done. P.S. Anyone who thinks Beckett was insensitive to worry Castle has clearly not watched this show for any length of time.
