In an unexpected series of events, Lauren Iungerich and MTV are parting ways, with network programming president Susanne Daniels confirming the surprising departure of the Awkward showrunner today in a statement.

"Awkward is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show," Daniels said. "We wish her the best in her new ventures."

Iungerich will wrap up current production on Awkward Season 3, the first half of which concludes this week.

The series will return for its back half of a 20-episode order in October, as a search for a new boss gets underway while the program fights for a a fourth season. Awkward is a critical success and averages around 2 million viewers per week.
