Lifetime has closed down its longest-running base.

The network announced today that it has pulled the plug on Army Wives, following a seventh season that featured many new cast members.

A two-hour retrospective will air some time in early 2014.

Army Wives Stars

Said Lifetime Executive Vice President and General Manager Rob Sharenow in a statement:

“There is no denying how special Army Wives has been to both Lifetime and the television landscape. By taking on a very relevant and timely issue, it has brilliantly captured the challenges our military families endure and the bravery they and their loved ones display while serving our country…. We also want to thank Army Wives’ passionate legion of fans and everyone involved with the series: ABC Studios, Mark Gordon and Jeff Melvoin, Tanya Biank, every single cast member, as well as the crew and community of Charleston, South Carolina.”

Throughout its run, Army Wives received numerous accolades: two Gracie Awards from the Alliance for Women in Media; a Sentinel for Health Award from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism’s Norman Lear Center; an NAACP Image Award; and a NAMIC Award.

I can't believe this! A show that get the attention of so many, and you cancel it. I guess we military really don't count. We haven't been military in almost 30 years, but it get's in your blood and you form a passion. Do you even care about the lives that are put on the line for your freedom everyday of every hour? The sacrifices made every day by the soldier and there families. Yes, I would have like to have kept all the same characters ,but it's real life, just like the military you move on and make new friend meet new people and learn to love it. No more lifetime for me.

@ southernchick

I so agree with you. Everything is reality tv because it cost less. We spent 23 years in the military and could relate to this show and looked forward to it every season. Going to miss it

I will NO longer watch Lifetime

Huge mistake! Don't believe u understand how many fans u have let down. I'm not one for tv, but this was one of FEW programs I watched religiously. Even if cast changes, this would be no different than in real army life. Guess millions of fans don't matter. Bye lifetime!

REALLY!! Is Lifetime trying to turn all of their loyal viewers to different channels? The Client List & Army Wives??? Have you no idea of what loyalty to your loyal viewers is? Will not be watching no more Lifetime. Thanks for NOTHING Lifetime!!! You have taken away 2 of the bits hits EVER!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!

so very sorry for cancellation of army wives was a great show on lifetime that did not exploit women or repeat abuse women Ladybug

With Army Wives gone I now find no reason to watch Lifetime....There is not any thing on there worth watching any more....they haven't even had a good new movie lately.....

WHAT!? Is this a joke! No Army Wives?! I was just looking for the Premier! Is there anything that we can do? What happened? There are so many unanswered questions! I cannot believe the network would just leave us hanging like this...and with such a blindside to boot! Thanks alot Lifetime! Way to stick it to your viewers. Bummer...bummer...darn! Excuse me while I go and have my TV Heartached due to my TV Heartbreak! UGH!

This really sucks big time. This is my favorite show. Many of my friends say the same thing. Yes, I miss all of the characters that have left, but getting to know the new ones was also refreshing. Please don't cancel this show. You are disappointing a lot more people than you realize.

This was a terrific show. I never mised a show. The storylines were always so true to Army life as families struggle today. The actors were all great.
Please don't CANCEL the best show on Sundays.....PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love all the original characters and I thought last year with all new characters made for a great show.
I'm very sorry to read of it's cancellation. Bummer.
