The return of Elementary, after a brief holiday hiatus, could be summed up with one word:

Moriarty.

Yes, Natalie Dormer re-entered our lives on Elementary Season 2 Episode 12 and, more important, re-entered the lives of Sherlock and Watson when she was called in to help on a kidnapping case.

An especially personal kidnapping case, it turned out, considering the young women at the center of it was Moriarty's estranged daughter. Can't say we saw that twist coming.

Did it help humanize Moriarty? Could there actually be hope yet for her and Holmes?
