Grey's Anatomy Review: Difficulty Juggling

at .  Updated at .

Wait a second... did that really just happen?!?

Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 20 was kind of a huge letdown! Seriously, how could Dr. Cristina Yang not win the Harper Avery Award?!

I am hugely disappointed and feel like the entire installment and recent Cristina-centric episodes were built around what was supposed to be a defining moment for Cristina.

Nonetheless, I can't help but wonder if tonight's dissatisfying ending has anything to do with the writers' farewell for the one and only Dr. Yang. Could this frustrating and disheartening sense of defeat be the reason behind her leaving GSMH?

At this point, I can only hope that Shonda and company know what they're doing and are going to send off Cristina in an epic way. Call me a pessimist, but I'm not holding my breath.

On another note, I also can't help but wonder what next season will look like without the unforgettable Sandra Oh. Change is coming, and it's coming fast. Also, please let there be more scenes with Meredith, Cristina and Alex.

Side note: I was so glad that both Owen and Meredith were there to support Cristina. Regardless of the outcome, she had the two people that she needed the most.

Back at the hospital, nearly everyone was having trouble with juggling their responsibilities.

Derek was feeling entirely overwhelmed as he was canceling lectures, pushing surgeries and also focused on his project with the POTUS. However, McDreamy stepped up his game and involved the residents in some very cool surgeries (one of which, Leah totally messes up on).

By the way, someone please tell Meredith and Derek that they should look into hiring a temporary nanny.

It's a good thing Calzona was there to babysit Zola (who has been MIA) and Bailey. Unfortunately, Calzona had to cancel their date night plans and nearly relied on a coin toss to figure out who would carry their baby. I like where Calzona's storyline is heading and it will be fun to see Callie pregnant again.

Alex, acting basically as a double agent, was also struggling with juggling his days at the private practice and nights at the hospital. While Jolex again had some cute moments together, I actually would like to see Alex do his thing at the practice.

As for Japril, the two spent the entire episode arguing about how they will raise their children when it comes to faith. Ultimately, Jackson admitted he did respect her but has faith only in science. April said she felt sorry for him and pitied him while eventually ending up on Calzona's doorstep asking for a place to stay.

Meanwhile, it was nice to see Bailey excited again about her project as she worked on the bubble boy case. Elsewhere, things aren't going so well with the family with the heart issues. All three children are now on the transplant list as their bodies are rejecting their hearts. Moreover, I think some of you may be right - this case could be the reason for Dr. Preston Burke's return.

Other Thoughts:

  • I couldn't help but giggle when Cristina realized she didn't want April's help with writing her speech.
  • Ben finally made an appearance but spent most of the episode snoozing. Also, I laughed every time when Jo called him "Gramps."
  • It's hard to believe that less than a handful of Grey's Anatomy episodes remaining this season. How did that happen?!
  • Be sure to return next week to check out our Grey's Anatomy Round Table.

All in all, "Go It Alone" wasn't all that bad until the final minute. I'm very interested in seeing what happens next as Cristina's chapter is coming to an end.

Were you surprised Cristina didn't win the Harper Avery Award?

Here is your first look at Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 21. Are you ready to say farewell to Cristina?
