Prince Oberyn Martell vs. Gregor Clegane: Who Will Win?!?

by at .  Updated at . Comments

The series may have taken a week off for Memorial Day, but Game of Thrones Season 4 returns in a big way this Sunday night.

Aptly titled "The Mountain and The Viper," Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 8 will pit Gregor Clegane against Prince Oberyn Martell... with the life of Tyrion Lannister at stake.

Mountain has a clear physical advantage over The Viper - but does that mean he'll come out on top? What attributes will Oberyn use to hopefully pull off the upset?

We compare and contrast these combatants in the following Tale of the Tape...

And the Winner is?

Who will win the Game of Thrones Battle of the Century? Prince Oberyn Martell or Gregor Clegane? View Poll »

REACH
Clegane: Like 12 feet.
Martell: Far fewer.
EDGE: Clegane.

WEIGHT
Clegane: Well over 300 pounds.
Martell: Maybe 2 bills?
EDGE: Clegane.

CHARISMA
Clegane: Little to none.
Martell: Enough to seduce a nun.
EDGE: Martell.

MOTIVATION
Clegane: Essentially a hired gun sword.
Martell: Out to avenge his sister's murder.
EDGE: Martell.

FAN SUPPORT
Clegane: The citizens of King's Landing do like to see blood shed...
Martell: ... but they also like to laugh at, or with, Tyrion.
EDGE: Even.

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE
Clegane: Has he ever really faced any? The Mountain disposes with all foes in a matter of seconds.
Martell: Has remained calm, cool and collected in enemy territory... and sought out that territory on his own.
EDGE: Even.

VERDICT: A bit more even than you would have thought, huh? The Mountain may possess all physical advantages, but The Viper is the more motivated competitor, while his wit may come in handy once swords are drawn. He wins this Tale of the Tape by a margin of 3-2-1 and we see him coming out on top Sunday as well.

As I have read the books, I know what will be the result. But it will be exciting.

Me too and its amazing how many people are so concerned with who wins. Martin doesn't let anyone win in the long run, at least not without suffering a lot first.

Totally agree, as a reader im waiting for the outcome after the combat
And of course the battle at the wall Its a shame that the batlle of the first men fist wasnt shown, it was the most important so far in the saga (tv or books)
