Chicago Fire Season 3 Premiere to Kill Off "Main Character"

by at . Comments

Let the guessing games begin, Chicago Fire Fanatics.

And break out those tissues.

Speaking to TV Guide, showrunner Matt Olmstead has confirmed that the explosion which rocked Firehouse 51 on the Chicago Fire Season 2 finale will claim the life of at least one key individual.

Tough Day on Chicago Fire

"Not everybody makes it out of that building," Olmstead says. "And then certainly what people deal with in terms of the loss of whomever that character is, that's definitely what we're dealing with in the first episode and beyond."

It sounds like Yuri Sardarov’s Otis will return for certain, but nearly everyone else is up for grabs, with the deceased’s identity being revealed early on the September 23 opener.

Over the past couple years, Andy Darden, Hallie Thomas and Rebecca Jones have all passed on, but Olmstead promises the upcoming death will be the hardest for fans to take.

"This will be the death of a character that you're much more invested in," he says. "It's this family that takes a hit, and how do you come back from it? It's been done before, but not to this extent. ... The loss of a main character is a big deal."

Who do you think it will be?

Sound off now with your theories and go watch Chicago Fire online if you need to catch up prior to the fall premiere.

I at first thought Casey or severide. But when they said family and always bouncing back well how many times has Hermann invested in something, fail, and then bounce back. It only makes sense that it would be Hermann and for it to hit his family hard. But when you become a firefighter your has just grown even bigger. When a fellow brother/sister is lost it effects not only close close family but the fire family as well. I hate to hear that one of the main characters will be killed off. Will have my tissues ready.

maybe even casey as he has had damage to his head from earlier in season 2

i honestly believe that it is Cruz, herman and both paramedics if you read the story all the way it says it his the family hard and its hard to come back to it Cruz who has guilt on his mind herman promotion and dawson as she has to go to a different fire house shay was with Dawson

I'm going with Mills or Hermann as the little clue is about family and they both have family involvements in the show. Shay as the outsider 3rd guess.

I certainly hope that it is not Casey or Severide. If it is one of them, I may have to stop watching.

The Showrunners have already revealed that it's not Casey, Severide, Dawson, Otis, or Mills. Thankfully Casey and Severide survive (although since they're really the two main characters we probably expected them to live anyways)

Smart money is on Shay, would make sense given that very little is known about her she seems the most expendable. Plus the show is called Chicago Fire with Dawson now a firefighter why keep the one EMT? I'm hoping I'm wrong but the spoilers say Severide takes the loss personally and bonds with Casey over it, Casey lost Hallie and Severide losing Shay would definitley cause both guys to bond over loosing a woman in their lives.

It says NOT Otis. Learn how to read a little bit better.

I think it will be either Dawson or Herman because their promotions are forcing them to leave 51 anyway.
