Jimmy Fallon got choked up while paying tribute to Robin Williams on The Tonight Show yesterday.
The host began his segment by simply talking about the once-in-a-lifetime performer, telling viewers to look up Williams' amazing stand-up on YouTube before playing footage from Robin's first appearance with Johnny Carson.
Fallon also did an impersonation of Williams and concluded the piece by standing on his desk, Dead Poets Society style, and saying:
Mork the alien got his own show and a house in Boulder, Colorado in 1978. In 1997 the episode "Mork's Mixed Emotions" made TV Guide's 100 Best Episodes list at #94. Na-nu na-nu and Shazzbot became populate words a the time, examples of Mork's language from Ork.
Robin Williams has been a late night talk show staple for decades. Shown here on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, he was one of two guests on Johnny's penultimate episode on May 21, 1992. The other guest was Bette Midler, and there were no guests on the final airing.
Williams and Billy Crystal weren't written into the script for "The One with the Ultimate Fighting Champion," that aired May 8, 1997, but they were in the same building the day of filming and did a guest spot. Word is, all of their dialog was ad libbed.
