Kyle MacLachlan is about to enter the Marvel universe.

The veteran actor (Twin Peaks, Sex and the City, How I Met Your Mother) will portray Skye's father on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., multiple sources confirm.

The issue of Skye’s parentage has been a mystery throughout the first-season run of this ABC drama, including the identity of this character’s parents and how she ended up at an orphanage.

Also: why she is classified as an 0-8-4?!?

The answers to these questions still await, but it's safe to assume that MacLachlan's presence will help shed some light on them.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 kicks off on Tuesday, September 23 at 9/8c.
