Emma asked Hook out on a date, much to his surprise, and he accepted with one caveat on Once Upon a Time Season 4 Episode 4.

He wanted to plan the date. Beforehand, Hook visited Mr. Gold and told him he knew he'd been hiding the dagger of the Dark One and in order to keep Gold's secret, Hook wanted his hand back. If his date with Emma went well, he wanted to be able to hold her with both hands.

But magic always comes with a price, and Mr. Gold warned Hook that his hand retained parts of his former self from when he was a devious, selfish pirate. Hook takes the deal, and the hand anyway but later regrets it when his temper begins to show during his date with Emma. He later beats up Will Scarlett when he finds him trying to break into the library.

Hook tells Mr. Gold to take the hand back but he blackmails him and has him come along to help when he forces an old man, The Apprentice, into the Sorcerer's hat. He claims to have video of the event that he will show Emma if Hook tells Belle about the dagger.

Then he gives Hook his hook back but tells him the hand held no power. That it was all a lie from the start.
