Who is Damon Salvatore?
That was the main question on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 2. Or at least it was the question that Ric was repeatedly asking Elena during their therapy sessions.
Oh, did I mention that Enzo is finally back?!? Enzo + Ric is what I'd call the dream team. They give me faith for The Vampire Diaries season 6 when it seems so many fans have lost it. I know I know... we all have our individual wants and needs - but I'm not going to complain week after week about how the show has changed. Instead, let's make the best of it!
Now back to those two hotties.
So why are they the season 6 redemption? Well, despite the obviously fantastic eye candy... Ric has taken back up his old job as caretaker. Somebody has to take care of Elena because she's Elena and the Salvatore brothers aren't alive.
Also, he just pulled off the unthinkable: he made Elena stop crying and whining and mourning.
Missing Bonnie makes me sad Jer. Missing Damon makes me dangerous.
Elena
Is everybody a little happier now? Or were there a little too many Delena flashbacks for your liking? Personally, I'm going to go on record as a Katherine Pierce in this little shipper war and declare myself an equal opportunist Salvatore fan.
"It's okay to love them both." That's what Katherine used to say. HOw sad is it that my own evil Doppelganger was smarter than me?
Elena [to Alaric]
Since Delena has been the couple for the past 2 seasons, that's what we're going to discuss. Elena is depressed, she lost her lover. What was interesting to me was when we found out THE moment that she fell in love with him. I had no idea it would be from her birthday party in The Vampire Diaries Season 3 Episode 1.
Which by the way, is an AWESOME episode and had a pretty spectacular Tyler/Caroline hook up.
Now onto Enzo. Good lord was it good to hear that accent this week! What did he call the coat closet girl? Garment caretaker? He's so classy, I love it. Plus, he and Caroline make a pretty dynamic team. And he stood up for her at the end!! Did blondie really think they were headed to Oregon, though?

Well, hello Stefan, good to see you too. By the way, ignoring all of Caroline's messages after everything they've been through? Damn, that must piss that Steroline shippers off a lot. It just pisses me off because, as Caroline pointed out, it's a dick move. Whether or not they were gonna make a go of it as a couple, they were best friends.
Thank goodness for Enzo and his little speech at the end because someone needed to kick Stefan's butt into gear and get him back to Mystic Falls. Or at least, the area surrounding Mystic Falls. I totally did NOT see that Thomas Fell situation coming. I like that we're getting back to our roots with the founding families here starting drama! Good call.
That is, if we actually believe he was a member of the founding Fell family.
So last but not least: Yellow Ledbetter. That's the title of this episode and also the answer to the missing part of Bonnie's repeated crossword puzzle. The meaning and lyrics of the song have been debated a lot over the years, but basically the gist I've gotten from the Pearl Jam tune is that it's about brothers. One has gone off to war and the other doesn't know if he's coming back in a box or a bag.
Stefan doesn't know if Damon is coming back. That's why he gave up. Part of me feels for his pain, but part of me also sides with Enzo.
Brothers don't give up.

About that crossword puzzle...why are we stuck on May 10, 1994? The day has to mean something. Other than the awesome 90s jams (Salt N' Pepa, R.E.M., Spin Doctors) and Bonnie's dope fashion sense, there has to be more behind why Grams sent them there.
