Scream Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Ghosts

Is Branson the killer?

Scream Season 1 Episode 8 certainly set out to make us think that, right?! We'd be fools to rule him the killer at this point. Don't expect the killer to be revealed 'til the season finale. It would take all the fun out the show if we got the reveal so early.

Emma tried to piece her life back together after witnessing Will's head literally split in two. It's understandable that anyone who has went through the trauma that this chick has, would be going through a lot right about now. There's really no one she can trust though.

Emma Returns - Scream

Her mother and her will never be on the same page, because good old Daisy keeps telling her daughter things on a need to know basis. I don't get why she can't just come clean about everything to her, rather than Emma being the one to fish for the information from her.

Emma's PTSD helped her get closer than ever to the answers, but I can't fathom whether we are to believe that her dreams are helping her get these answers. Sure, she's delving into memories she thought she never had, but this could get old real quick.

Who is Emma's sibling? Yes, whoever this killer is knows that Emma's mother got rid of a kid who just so happens to be fathered by the town laughing stock, Brandon James. I don't imagine the show will reveal her sibling as the killer, but they could be an accomplice, I'd hope that the killer reveal veers away from the movies and it wouldn't make sense to follow the worst reviewed movie in the franchise.

I wouldn't be surprised if Audrey winds up being related to the the little scream Queen. Remember back on Scream Season 1 Episode 1, Audrey had that picture of Brandon?

Alarm bell started to ring from Jake and Brooke tonight. The two of them were blatantly fake crying in the hospital. If they didn't show those tears on screen, they ain't real. It would make sense that these two were killing together. Jake has been totally sketchy since the beginning and Brooke would be a gigantic shock since she's probably the most liked character by the fandom.

The whole scene with her and Branson was just plain weird and it reminded me of Scream 2. What if Jake did actually make a noise and then cut Brooke in order to make Branson look like the guilty party? This is a theory I'm sticking with until it's proven otherwise.

We also got word that Mayor Maddox isn't the big bad wolf we've been led to believe. We all knew this would happen, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. Brooke sure was happy to speak to her mother, but could it have been a voice changer? Who knows with this show!

For the moment, it looks like Branson is very much in the frame and considering his dark past, he'll be the top suspect until the big reveal in two weeks.

"Ghosts" was a solid effort. The story appears to be getting ready to reach a conclusion of some sort, but the road to the end is going to be a bloody mess for some of our characters. I'd like the show to kick the pace up a gear and cut out the cheese for these final two hours and thrill us all the way through.
