Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Chapter Twenty-six

Someone needs to turn on the air conditioning because it just got seriously hot in here!

On Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 4, Jane shared a passionate kiss with Michael, leading her to (seemingly) choose him over Rafael. However, just like a telenovela, matters of the heart are always complicated and collateral damage is inevitable.

So is Rafael about to get his heartbroken? Let's discuss!

We all know I'm unabashedly #TeamMichael, but Rafael fans can't deny the chemistry going on between Michael and Jane in this episode. Rafael is a great guy, but there's something to be said about being best friends with the love of your life.

Jane and Michael have an incredible foundation of friendship between them. I don't know about you guys, but when I meet the love of my life, I also want them to be my best friend. Sure, Michael has a leg up on Rafael since he's known Jane longer, but I just can't picture Jane having the same rapport with Rafael.

It's also important to note how differently Jane's reaction was when Rafael kissed her at the end of Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 3. Jane wanted to avoided the topic of the kiss and focus on the custody of Mateo instead. After her kiss with Michael, she was on cloud nine. I just hope her feelings on love were a direct result of the kiss and not due to her having been drinking earlier in the evening.

I'm also worried about how Rafael is going to react. I knew that baby monitor was going to cause trouble. Rafael overhearing Jane's conversation with Xo is bad news. I just hope he doesn't go down the petty road and try change the custody agreement he and Jane decided on.

Other than potentially figuring out who she was meant to be with, Jane also juggled trying to write a paper and plan Lina's birthday. I'm thrilled we got to spend more time with Lina. For someone who's supposed to be her friend, we haven't seen much of the two of them together.

The whole sequence at the club was adorable and I want to learn their dance and recreate with my best friend immediately! Jane needed a night where she didn't have to be on mommy duty and reconnect with a side of herself she hasn't been in touch with since Mateo was born.

I know that he has changed a lot in the last three weeks, but you know what, I have too because everything revolves around him. I mean, that's why I can't choose who I want to be with because I don't even recognize myself anymore.

Jane

Despite the heightened reality of the show, the writers always manage to make Jane's problems relatable. Not only is Jane a new mother, but she's also still a young woman figuring out her life. It's understandable she would be overwhelming herself with the task of straightening out her love life, friendships, and school. It's a lot to handle on top of raising a newborn.

Elsewhere in the episode, we discovered what Luciana was blackmailing Rogelio with, and it's.... Scientology? Yes, you read that right. Rogelio explained all about his time as a Scientologist, which also included recording himself divulging all his secrets.

I have to admit, this was not what I was expecting, but I find it entirely within the realm of possibility for his character. I'm more curious what's on disc 142 part c? Clearly it's something he doesn't want to Xo find out, but it will only be a matter of time. Xo will look at it after driving herself crazy with possibilities of what Rogelio could be hiding.

Milos made a surprise appearance demanding Petra marry him. Petra may not deserve Rafael, but she definitely deserves better than Milos. Petra has found herself pregnant without Rafael's love, and I hope she doesn't give into Milos.

Michael: You okay?
Petra: Just a little nauseous.
Michael: Yeah, probably karma.

Everyone is quick to dismiss Petra, but I was surprised by the tender moment she shared with Rafael. His method of shutting down her affections was probably the nicest way I've ever seen someone do that. I still think there's the possibility of romance between them, but for now, Rafael has no interest in reconciling with her.

Observations and Questions

  • Lusia was returned safe and sound, but the girl is still certifiably insane. Also, she continues to romanticize her relationship with Rose. What will it take to snap her out of the love spell she seems trapped in?
  • Michael's new partner was placed there by the police chief to investigate him. Does he suspect Michael helped Nadine escape?
  • Was anyone else scared for a moment that Mateo wasn't going to be in his crib when Jane arrived home after her kiss with Michael? Thankfully we don't have to endure that sweet baby being kidnapped again.

So over to you guys! Do you think Jane will stick with choosing Michael? How do you think Rafael will react to overhearing Jane's admission to Xo? Will Xo sneak a peak at disc 142 part c? What are your predictions for Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 5?
