33 Shows You Better Not Miss in 2016

at .  Updated at .

With the New Year comes new programming. Sure, some of it will be familiar, but a lot of it won't.

Here's a quick refresher on what will be flowing over the next two months.

What shows pique your interest? If we have any inside information, we'll toss in our two cents along the way.

Welcome to 2016 everyone!

1. New Girl

New Girl returns Tuesday, January 5. Feels like forever, right? What we know is you can expect a larger CeCe arc as Jesse is sequestered for jury duty (in real life Zooey Daschenal is having a baby!) when Megan Fox's character, Reagan, rents out Jesse's room. Reagan has a romantic past with CeCe, so expect things to get weird very fast!

2. The Shannara Chronicles

The Shannara Chronicles premieres Tuesday, January 5th at 10/9c on MTV. The series is based on a best-selling series of books based thousands of years into the future when technology has died out, magic reentered the world and died out again. Elves rule and humans are subspecies. When demons threaten to rise up and destroy the world, three hot teenagers of varying elfin/human ethnicities are the only ones who can save it. So, yeah. Big budget, big expectations.

3. American Crime

When American Crime returns to ABC on Wed., January 6 at 10/9c, the theme will be class, gender issues, sexual orientation and sexual identity taking place via a midwestern high school basketball team and its players, coaches and parents.

4. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

The gang is back for more antics on Wednesday, January 6, at 10/9c on FXX. In it's 11th season, are there any worries It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will fail to bring the funny?

5. Man Seeking Woman

Man Seeking Woman also returns to FX on January 6, just after It's Always Sunny. You'd think Josh would give up on dating, but nope! The second season promises to be even weirder than the first, so give it a look!

6. Shameless

When Shameless returns to Showtime on Sunday, January 10, you can expect Frank to be dealing with Debbie's pregnancy decisions, a new character to be dealing with terminal cancer and an introduction to Frank's ex.

7. Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars returns Tuesday, January 12 at 8 on newly renamed Freeform, and with the five-year time jump you can expect a whole lotta crazy stuff to have occurred. All 'ships have sunk and new ones rose up in their places, with terminal bad girl Ali having married. We can hardly believe some of what we've heard, so we'll just have to watch!

8. Shadowhunters

Making for a unstoppable Tuesday night of programming, Shadowhunters, based upon The Mortal Instruments movie, will make its debut after PLL. This has been one to watch even while in production, so we're expecting big things. To take it as literally as possible, according to the wiki on the subject (yep, I've seen the movie...), here's what we're dealing with: "Shadowhunters, or Nephilim, are a secretive race of beings who are humans born with angelic blood. They are the appointed warriors on Earth of the Angel Raziel. They are appointed specifically to control and preside over the Shadow World, as well as over the demons and Downworlders who inhabit it."

9. Shades of Blue

Jennifer Lopez stars in NBC's Shades of Blue premiering on Wednesday, January 13 at 9/8c. Single mother and detective, Harlee Santos, hangs with bad cops and reaps the rewards, but that's about to catch up with her. Surprisingly, the pilot is quite enjoyable and the second episode follows suit. Don't write this one off as a bad apple thinking Lopez is strutting her stuff or that NBC isn't the right place for it. Give it a chance. Turns out, it's worth it.

10. Second Chance

Second Chance premieres on Wednesday, January 13 at 9/8c. Originally called the Frankenstein Code and then Lookinglass and now is Second Chance, which, frankly, has us so confused we're sure it won't make it. If they're that uncertain of the title for the content, then what confidence does that bring to us as viewers? Anyway, it's about an old sheriff who gets a second chance inside a younger, more virile body. No idea why or how because they lost us at the first title change. Whoops.

11. Younger

Younger Season 2 arrives on TV Land Wednesday, January 13 at 10/9c. With Liza's secret out of the bag, will she and Josh have what it takes to remain a couple?

12. Colony

Colony premieres on USA Thursday, January 14 at 10/9c. The premiere is already available online, and it's easily the weakest of the first six episodes. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, The Strain, Bates Motel), it's a drama about incredibly difficult decisions, society and family. It's thought provoking and terrifying and definitely recommended.

13. Billions

Billions premieres on Showtime Sunday, January 17 at 10/9 and focuses on the US Attorney General and one of the richest men in the US, a hedge fund manager who many want to see fall, but others view as a billionaire everyman/hero, making him a difficult man to prosecute. Adults only, please, and expect to be hook from the onset. Let the fun begin!

14. Recovery Road

Recovery Road premieres on Freeform Monday, January 18 at 9/8c and centers on a teenager named Maddie, a severe addict who decides to live at a rehab facility to conquer her addiction.

15. Agent Carter

Nope, we have no idea what's coming when Agent Carter returns to ABC on Tuesday, January 19 at 8/7c, but that's perfectly alright. Peggy Carter is on her way!

16. DC's Legends of Tomorrow

You can't possibly be unaware that DC's Legends of Tomorrow premieres on The CW Thursday, January 21 at 8/7c, because the cast is made up almost completely of castoffs from Arrow and The Flash. It's a whole lot of fun and brings yet another exciting new element to universe with which we are already so familiar it's like taking another journey with old friends.

17. The 100

The 100 Season 2 takes off on The CW, Thursday, January 21 at 9/8c, and that means we'll finally get closer to finding about about these ice people we've heard next to nothing about! Where is Clarke? What's Lexa up to and do we expect Bellamy to put up a fight to be the Chancellor? What the heck is the City of Light, anyway? Answers may be all just weeks away. Squeee!

18. Baskets

Baskets will premiere on FX Thursday, January 21 at 10/9c. Starring Zach Galifianakis as a dude who has always wanted to be a clown, the premiere has some laugh out loud moments in it. Working on the series with Zach is Louis CK, who is taking a break from his own series to help produce the clown comedy. A lot of people may hate clowns, but nobody hates Zach G or Louis CK (who is only behind the scenes), right?

19. Black Sails

Black Sails returns to Starz for Season 3 on Saturday, January 23 at 9/8c, putting Zach McGowan on two series premiering this month. Go Zach! Most importantly is the introduction of Blackbeard, with whom Vane will have at least a scene or two, so it should be something to behold!

20. The X-Files

The X-Files makes its return to Fox on Sunday, January 24 after a football game and into its regular time slot on Monday, January 25 at 8/7c. What is there to say? It's the old gang, and they're back to try to solve the biggest conspiracy of them all. Can they do it?

21. Lucifer

On Monday, January 25 at 9/8c on Fox, you'll get to see Lucifer as you never have before. He's up and quit his responsibilities, and daddy isn't happy about it. Lucifer wants to help people, and dammit, have a good time for a change. Now that we have had a good look at him, not only do we not blame him, we're glad to have him around. The pilot is excellent, and we can only hope the rest of the episodes follow suit!

22. The Magicians

The Magicians premieres on Syfy at 9/8c on Monday, January 25. It's kind of like a college-age Harry Potter, taking place at Brakebills University. The first episode is online, and if anyone wants to watch and report back to me WTF happened in the last minute, I'd love to hear from you. It's a lot of fun, this one!

23. Outsiders

WGN's newest series, Outsiders, premieres on Tuesday, January 26 at 10/9c. When a town wants the mineral rights to the top of a mountain claimed by a clan who has been living up there for generations, they discover they'll have more than their handsful when they try to get them to move. Great cast and interesting

24. Suits

Suits returns to USA on Wednesday, January 27 at 9/8c. All we know for sure is that Mike was just arrested. What is happening?! We're ready to find out.

25. You, Me and the Apocalypse

You, Me and the Apocalypse premieres on NBC Thursday, January 28 at 8/7c. It's a partnership between NBC and Sky1 in the UK, and the program itself is very British. It should be a lot of fun to see how we "Yanks" accomodate a British feeling program on our telly. What's it about? Why, the end of the world by way of comet, of course, and a bunch of Brits and Americans who all wind up in the same shelter together. Good times!

26. The People v O.J. Simpson - American Crime Story‎

The People v O.J. Simpson - American Crime Story‎ will premiere on FX Tuesday, February 2 at 9/8c. Many people have said they don't want to watch because they've seen it all before. Well, to that I'd have to ask...have you? Those of us alive at the time never saw behind the scenes. This might shed some much needed light on the situation, while introducing those who have only heard of it in tales of yore to the younger folks.

27. Vinyl

Vinyl will premiere on HBO on Sunday, February 14 at 9/8c. It centers on Richie Finnestra, a record company executive in the 70s who is trying to save his record label and his soul without destroying everything in its path. With punk, disco, hip-hop and rock & roll making up the soundtrack, this one should be a lot of fun!

28. Bitten

Bitten returns to Syfy for its third and final season on Monday, February 15 at 11/10c, when Elena will be struggling with the way Jeremy is running things, and she'll make some surprising and shocking discoveries about herself.

29. Vikings

Vikings returns to History Channel on Thursday, February 18 and with it will come betrayals for Ragnar. Look for Rollo to go against his brother again and possibly his wife, Auslaug, as she believes leading the Vikings is her birthright.

30. Girls

Girls returns to HBO Sunday February 21 at 9/8c. Marnie is getting married (to the wrong guy), Sosh is still in Japan (but back for the wedding), and Hannah is actually happy for once. Really. Should be a fun season to see these girls growing up.

31. Togetherness

Togetherness Season 2 returns to HBO on Sunday, February 21 at 9:30 right after Girls. We have no idea what to expect, but happiness is probably not at the top of the list. Nor, frankly, is togetherness. Hmmm.

32. The Family

The Family premieres on Sunday, March 6 on ABC at 9/8c. Centering around a politically active family whose son was kidnapped years earlier, they're thrown into turmoil when the boy is returned. The thing is, nobody is certain he's really the right kid. The pilot evokes a pretty creepy feel and even if he is the right kid, something doesn't quite stack up. It's a really good start!

33. The Catch

Way out on Thursday, March 24, The Catch will premiere on ABC at 10/9c. Alice is a fraud investigator who is rolled over by her fiance and becomes a victim herself. Before she loses her career over it, she plans on finding the guy and bringing him down.
