Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 12 Review: Cursed

at .  Updated at .

Who would have thought that stalwart, pragmatic Frank Reagan would fear something like a number could be cursed?

But that’s exactly what happened in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 12

It’s only a number, but these particular five digits, #46808 turned out to be Frank’s late son Joe’s badge number, and it was retired after he was killed in the line of duty.

The odd thing was, that number or others in that vein – such as 468 and 4680 – seemed to have an equally deadly history.

I found it interesting that Frank, of all people, would look into such a thing. He seems like the last person to be superstitious, but perhaps I’m completely wrong about that. As Henry pointed out, he’s carried a lucky silver dollar in his pocket for decades.

I suppose everyone has their quirks, I just didn’t expect Frank Reagan to honestly think that a number could be cursed.

That said, he did have a point when even #468 was killed when hit by a bus on his second day on the job. As Frank said in this Blue Bloods quote

Hit by a bus, that's supposed to be, like you know, a metaphor. You actually get hit by a bus it means things are lined up against you.

Coincidence or curse, Joe Reagan’s shield number will live on as Officer Carpenter honors both he and her late father by wearing it. I loved how the entire Reagan family was able to vote on its fate.

Even Danny’s kids, who were probably quite young when Joe was killed, got to be a part of the decision, and I think that says a lot about the closeness of the Reagan family. Every member’s voice is heard.

But the best part, the part that made me laugh, was when Erin asked if Officer Carpenter was cute. When Jamie said she was, Erin concluded that Joe would definitely have said yes to giving her the number.

I found that sweet and funny, and an authentic way that a sister would remember her brother.

Elsewhere, Danny and Baez investigated a mob hit in which I never doubted that Ronnie was involved.

There was no reason to keep him alive and take the time of putting him in the trunk if he weren’t. I was surprised that Danny and Baez didn’t look at him harder from the start.

Jamie and Renzulli found themselves at a crossroads when Renzulli cut Jamie’s collar loose with no real explanation and then threatened to write Jamie up when he questioned the decision.

I wouldn't have expected Eddie to be the one who wanted to go to Internal Affairs while Jamie pushed to give Renzulli the benefit of the doubt.

Renzulli was lucky that Jamie’s loyalty to him was so strong because letting a suspect in a stabbing walk out the door sounds like a heck of a risk, and I would have expected IA to come down hard on him for it.

I’d be curious to find out what happens to Renzulli when he comes forward with what he’d done after the fact, but I suppose we’ll never know.

What we do know is that Eddie is the best partner Jamie has ever had. How long that will be professional and not personal is anyone’s guess.
