Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 16 Review: Help Me Help You

Second chances were called into question on Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 16 and their success or failure caused exasperation for many.
Danny’s case was the most questionable from the start.
Danny was everything from dismissive to annoyed to openly angry with his wife, and for most of the hour I couldn’t figure out why.
Did he really think she called him and his partner to her place of work just to talk about the kids? Albeit, she could have talked to him over the phone about her friend Laurie’s plight, but perhaps she knew she’d be harder to turn down in person.
Danny wasn’t necessarily wrong about offering Ronnie the benefit of the doubt, but I couldn’t help but feel that Ronnie was a guy who was about to use the “sanctity of marriage” as an excuse to do something stupid to assuage his anger and jealousy. Unfortunately, I was right.
I felt sorry for Laurie’s boyfriend, Paul. How long do you think he was tied up in that warehouse before Danny got there?
As much as I appreciated Danny taking the time to talk Ronnie down, I also wouldn’t have blamed him if he had shot Ronnie either. If Ronnie believed that killing Paul would save his marriage and family, the man had obviously become unhinged.
Danny blowing up at Linda made me feel sorry for them both. I’ll agree that calling Danny four or five times a shift was excessive, but wanting to know the parents of the kids her sons were hanging out with was not. If Linda has been over protective since her shooting, I think she’s earned the right to it.
It was a relief to hear that Danny was equally terrified of losing his wife. She’s lived with knowing that he may not come home from work someday for years. Her shooting has brought that fear home for Danny, and he’s also got to find a way to live with it.
Erin was faced with jeopardizing her career and losing an old friend or doing the right thing to make sure that people in the court system have a real chance to find justice. As Frank pointed out in this Blue Bloods quote…
It's hard to do the right thing when you don't know what the right thing to do is.

But Erin did know, and she was willing to pay the consequences for it. It all worked out in the end but it just as easily could have gone the other wary. I almost wish we could have seen more fallout from Erin’s decision and how she would have handled that.
Frank faced off with City Council Speaker Regina Thomas played by guest star Whoopi Goldberg. I’ve always seen the positive side of the NYPD’s Broken Windows policy, the theory being that if you take care of the small offenses then the bigger ones will be less likely to follow.
Councilwoman Thomas brought a different perspective to it. Does the policy have the police treating ordinary citizens as common criminals? When does enforcing the law border on harassment?
Without knowing the actual specifics, it’s hard to give a definitive answer but I believe that reviewing the policy with fresh eyes and being willing to compromise was probably the best call for everyone.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Regina Thomas back again for a bit more sparring and compromise with Frank. As much as I love Frank and usually agree with him, I don’t think having a smart person with a differing point of view to challenge him is a bad thing. Watching Tom Selleck and Whoopi Goldberg square off is certainly entertaining.
