Gotham Season 2 Episode 20 Review: Unleashed

Nothing like a rocket launcher to set things right.

Penguin finally got his revenge on Gotham Season 2 Episode 20 when he teamed up with Butch. But, while Bruce's problems disappeared, Selina's were only beginning.

Front Row Seat - Gotham Season 2 Episode 20

There were a lot of goofy moments during this installment of Gotham. The most notable one being when Bruce got out of the car after he zoomed through Azrael/Galavan.

I was cheering that Bruce actually took the challenge and drove to escape from the crazy masked man. He should have just kept going, but then, if he did, Jim wouldn't have been able to save the day.

But it wasn't Jim who saved the day. It was Penguin to the rescue.

Penguin showing up with Butch carrying a rocket launcher was the absolute best part of this hour. Penguin nailed it when he said:

You should know by now that bullets don't kill this monster, Jim.

Penguin

I wonder how much of an idiot Jim felt like after Butch blew Galavan to smithereens. How many bullets did Jim shoot to no avail? And Penguin walked in, took care of business, and walked out. The guy knows how to get things done.

But Galavan asked for it. Because in another goofy Gotham moment, Galavan had Bruce right where he wanted him thanks to Tabitha's whip. But, he spelled his doom when he loosened the whip leaving Bruce there. Why not just keep him tied up until he killed him with the sword?

I don't think Butch is still in his right mind. He kind of caved in pretty quick to Penguin. I think he's just looking for a leader and with Tabitha indisposed, Penguin showed up at just the right time.

Wasn't it sweet how Butch was gushing over Tabitha? Too bad she wasn't awake to hear him whisper all those sweet nothings. I just wish he would've said the "L" word. What was so hard about it?

But Penguin and Butch together again!! Now where's Victor Szasz? Penguin's going to need all the help he can get with Strange waking up all those crazy monsters down in Indian Hill.

Was that Clayface or Killer Croc making an appearance? And we know Fish Mooney is coming. Penguin better watch his back.

The sword fight between Azrael and Alfred was the second best scene this hour. Alfred really knows how to kick some butt, and it's obvious he'll do anything to save Master Bruce. Though, sometimes I don't quite understand how he sees himself as a guardian when he lets Bruce do anything he wants.

I also don't understand why Alfred didn't just shoot Galavan in the head when he had the chance. Oh, I know. Because Bruce wasn't there to witness the awesomeness.

I'm a little concerned for Nygma. Just when he thought he was going to escape, he was caught. Is Professor Strange going to do some experimenting on our favorite Riddler when he gets taken back inside? I hope not.

Hopefully, he'll be able to save Selina, because she is in a whole lot of trouble. What was she thinking when she walked right into Bridgit's cell? Did Professor Strange know she was there the whole time? Is she going to be able to escape Bridgit's burn?

Like I said, there was a lot of goofiness this hour, but it was a lot of goofy fun. The cast really seemed like they enjoyed themselves while shooting all the craziness. Especially Galavan/Azrael.

I still can't get over that Galavan ending. From the moment Jim's gun came up empty to Galavan being blown to smithereens was mind-blowing awesome. I think I could watch that scene over and over again and never get bored. I loved this episode, but I think the best is still to come!

Other Thoughts:

  • Galavan/Azrael's reaction when he saw the rocket launcher. "Oh." Loved it.
  • I thought Bullock's pep speech at GCPD was pretty good even if the reception wasn't as great as he was expecting.
  • Can you imagine the fun Professor Strange would have if Jim Gordon was a patient?
  • This Galavan was way more entertaining than the Galavan from the first half of the season.
  • Too bad we didn't get to see the supernatural powers of the Sword of Sin. If they really existed like Tabitha said.
  • Loved Selina's new hairstyle!
  • Bullock thinking breaking into a crypt crossed the line. Amusing.
  • Barnes is alive. Don't know how I feel about that.

There are only two episodes left before the season is over! What else does Professor Strange have in store for Jim Gordon and the rest of Gotham? How about unleashing Fish Mooney! Penguin's favorite crime boss makes her return on Gotham Season 2 Episode 21 on Monday, May 16 at 8/7c on FOX.

I literally got chills when I saw that preview. "My name is Fish Mooney. Bitch." Woo hoo! Fish Mooney!!
