Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Enemy Lines

Welcome back to Wayward Pines!

Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 1 picked up three years after the events of Wayward Pines Season 1. While there are still a lot of familiar faces, plenty has changed, too.

One thing that hasn't changed? We are still left with a ton of questions.

A Rebellion - Wayward Pines

We're introduced to Theo, who's basically the new Ethan. He wakes up, he's confused, he wants his wife...sound familiar? Oh yeah, and he's the only doctor in the entire town. That's a problem.

It's unclear if he was the only doctor that was still asleep, too. That seems unlikely, but Kerry was pretty strongly on the side of not killing him, while Jason said they need their own doctors. So, maybe he really is the only one. If so, Pilcher obviously dropped the ball there. Doctors and teachers should be pretty high on the priority list of who to "save."

So that jerk Jason is the new leader, and he's a poor man's version of Pilcher. He doesn't really seem to have any idea what he's doing. He's got help, and I wonder if Megan Fisher is the real leader, and Jason's just the pawn. New girl, Kerry, could be the new Pam.

The ending of Wayward Pines Season 1 Episode 10 was somewhat polarizing. Some loved the twist that things basically ended up where they started, while others, myself included, were frustrated that no change resulted from so much effort.

As you recall, Ben woke up and it was three years later, which is where we are picking up now. We don't know how much time has passed since he woke up or how long he's been leading these rebels.

Ben has taken it upon himself to bring real change. But why did he turn himself in? Why now?

He's got to have a plan right? Who knows what it is. He probably wasn't planning on being tossed outside the wall with a doctor who has absolutely no idea what's going on.

Somehow they'll survive and make it back in, because it's only the first episode. Maybe Ben's plan was just to get back into the town undetected (they did blow up the surveillance system), with everyone assuming he's dead. A presumed dead rebel leader could do a lot of damage.

It makes no sense why Jason decided to leave Theo out there. It takes time to make new doctors, and they are kind of important. I remember all the adults had been put back in the hibernation chamber by the First Generation. I wondered if Theo was the first one they had woken up in the last three years, purely out of necessity.

We saw very few adults, but we did see that classical music loving couple (though they did look pretty young), as well as Theo's wife.

Kate did call Theo "Group C," so maybe they've decided it's time to start waking up a whole new group, and Theo's just the first. He does seem to be the only person in town who doesn't know the truth. It's unclear if his wife does.

You would think for someone as important as a doctor, Jason would want to give him a little more time to get acclimated.

We've done so many great things. So many. Pyramids, man on the moon, the Beatles... We were capable of so much, but now it's your world, your future, and I don't want any part of it.

Kate

I am super disappointed that Kate killed herself so quickly. She was a great character, but I can see why she may have outlived her usefulness. Still, she couldn't have taken Megan out with her?

As I said before, there are still A LOT of questions. What is the role of Theo's wife in Wayward Pines? How long has she been awake? In the flashbacks we learned they disagreed on having children, which is pretty much priority numero uno in this town. I feel like that's going to be important.

What were they doing to poor Arlene? Why were they torturing her? Is she part of the resistance now?

Where's Theresa? That question, at least, should be answered on Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 2. Part of the episode description says she'll be frantically searching for her son.

It was great to see Sheriff Pope again through the flashbacks. Hopefully he'll show up again periodically. I hope we get to see Pam again at some point, too. I assume she's still in the hibernation chamber. She at least got a mention from Megan.

What did you guys think of the premiere?

Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 1 Quotes

Routine is the building block of happiness, that's what Pilcher says right?

Xander

Well doc, if you had a chance to save a thousand people at once, put them down, and then wake them up, through some magic procedure that you believed in and knew how to make it work, you'd do it right?
